YOUR OPPORTUNITY TO HELP

Few words can accurately describe the physical and emotional challenges that people with Multiple Sclerosis face every day. The unpredictability of when severe pain will strike and the stress of not being able to do things that were once routine tremendously impacts their lives in ways most of us cannot comprehend.

The MS Fitness Challenge (MSFC) is looking to join forces with caring partners to help bring physical fitness to millions of people suffering with an incurable disease that often leads to limited mobility, paralysis, and severe effects on overall health. This is an incredible chance to become part of a rewarding opportunity to directly improve lives and raise awareness for the benefits of exercise and nutrition--for people with Multiple Sclerosis--and all communities that support and care about healthy living.

Our amazing media exposure, publicity and MSFC events provide enormous opportunities to get your brand and products in front of consumers interested in supporting an active lifestyle and giving back. Our founder’s inspirational story has garnered international publicity and promotional partnerships, with many additional deals in the works through his successful production company. Our large fundraising events offer something for every member of the family including: raffles, live music and dancing, exercise demonstrations, children’s entertainment, food samplings and giveaways, guest celebrities, health screenings, and more.

ABOUT MS

Multiple Sclerosis is a chronic, unpredictable autoimmune disease of the central nervous system (CNS) in which the immune system incorrectly attacks healthy tissue. Surrounding and protecting the nerve fibers of the CNS is a fatty tissue called myelin, which helps nerve fibers conduct electrical impulses. In MS, myelin is lost in multiple areas, leaving scar tissue called sclerosis. When myelin or the nerve fiber is destroyed or damaged, the ability of the nerves to conduct electrical impulses to and from the brain is disrupted, and this produces the various symptoms of MS.

More than 2.3 million people are affected by MS worldwide ….(and) someone gets newly diagnosed with this disease every hour of every day.

The total lifetime cost for individual MS healthcare is $1.2 million.

The only hope has been drugs and long term care until now…

ABOUT THE MS FITNESS CHALLENGE

David Lyons was hospitalized and diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis at the age of 47. A former bodybuilder and health club owner, he exercised regularly and lived a healthy lifestyle. He was devastated by the diagnosis and frustrated by the physical limitations of his condition. While in the hospital the doctors told David he would most likely leave in a wheelchair and would not return to his normal workout routine. They also warned him that MS is a disease that most often progressively worsens and to prepare for his limitations as he ages. So what does David do? At the age of 50 he decided to compete in a bodybuilding competition!

David knew he could not do this alone, so he assembled a team he calls The Challenge Team. David’s doctors all told him that his pursuit of a bodybuilding title was sheer madness, especially at 50 years old...but if anyone could do it - he could. On August 22, 2009, David competed in his first competition where he was awarded The Most Inspirational Bodybuilder trophy!

The MS Fitness Challenge was birthed from founder David Lyons’ MS Bodybuilding Challenge and his wife, registered nurse, Kendra’s desire to help others who suffer from Multiple Sclerosis. His personal challenge and his book, David’s Goliath, about his journey as a bodybuilder with MS, are inspirations to others who find the obstacles in life too difficult to overcome. David and Kendra

founded the MS Fitness Challenge, a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization, as a way for others to join them and fight this debilitating disease through health & fitness.

“I had the honor of meeting David and the drive and determination he has to find a cure for this disease is commendable! David’s MS Fitness Challenge is one of the best, if not THE best challenge I’ve seen!” -LaToya Jackson

“David’s Goliath will empower all of us to Climb Higher and find the strength to overcome even the most difficult challenge.”~ Montel Williams - Acclaimed TV Host, Bestselling Author and Creator of The Montel Williams MS Foundation

“... You can overcome any obstacle in life with faith, determination and drive. Having fought my own Goliath with my strokes, David’s story and fight embodies “True Strength.” ~ Kevin Sorbo - Famed Actor of Hercules Series and Author “True Strength”

WHAT WE DO

It is the mission of the MS Fitness Challenge to provide certified fitness professionals to people with MS nationwide in an effort to educate and train them in the benefits of exercise and nutrition in winning the battle against Multiple Sclerosis. MSFC pays for these professionals to work with the person signed up for a 12 week “Challenge” program and a membership for that person at a host fitness center through the donations of its supporters.

We kick off each 12 week fitness challenge at our MSFC events. Our large free fundraising events are open to the public and include live music, fitness demonstrations, giveaways, raffles, and more, with all funds raised also going directly towards the cost of providing a personal trainer, gym membership, nutritional supplements, and ongoing support for each participant with MS during the 12 week Fitness Challenge program. But our main focus is on individual 12 week Challenges held at host gyms in cities nationwide. With a kick off day to launch the MSFC, which includes media coverage and meet and greet

booths, sponsors have the opportunity to share their products and services with the local community of MSers and their families, fitness enthusiasts, MSFC supporters and gym members.

“...The MS Fitness Challenge has been a wonderful opportunity for me…so much more than just getting back into the gym. My trainer has been a great supporter and teacher....she has shown me what I CAN do physically and ways to adapt things I struggle with. My MS limits me, but it doesn’t stop me anymore.” - Julie Henderson

“...MSFC has given me the tools to fight my disease. I can focus on key weaknesses to aid my mobility and stability. Building my strength and endurance helps me to prevent advanced disability. I know I have to be persistent, but I can foresee a stronger future. Thanks for reminding me that I may have MS, but MS does not, will not have me.” - Kathy Kalish

“...there were times my wife got home from work and was so exhausted or in so much pain, she just had to go to bed. I barely remember that woman, now when she is in pain, her legs are tingling or other MS symptoms are occurring, she doesn’t go to bed, she toughs it out because she is stronger physically and mentally (not letting the MS control her and dictate what she must do). I thank David Lyons everyday for his decision to not let MS run his life, and to help others do the same. He has been an inspiration to my wife and now she is my inspiration.” - Jerry Searcy
