You can’t expext to walk on the field or court and win every game without putting in the time. It feels as though kids believe that just because they’re wearing the pads or holding the bat, they actually know how to play the sport on a high school level. If you ask me, students aren’t participating in playground sports as much as they have in the past. For many kids, high school is the first true experience of competitive sports. Walking through the halls on a game day, King has more life than ever. I truly believe the majority of the student body tries to support GK sports. But no matter how hard we cheer and how many people are in the stands, it is ultimately up to the players to get the job done, and despite the outcome we still support our teams. Having watched all the sports at the school, I believe that the attitudes of the players are in the right spot, but the outcome never matches. Don’t get me wrong, we have successful teams, but the general outlook on sports at the school is negative. So where does the flaw lie? Are the players not practicing enough? Are the coaches not doing their job? Or is there just a lack of unity within the sports of Grace King? These are questions that I’d love to have answered. I suggest that at every practice and at every game or meet, each athlete tries his or her best and never gives up. So then you understand you must put forth your best effort and couldn’t have done any better, as well as knowing that there’s always room for improvment. So lets turn this year around and make a new name for King sports. Erica Bonilla senior Sport: Soccer Position: Goalie Achievements: 2009 - 2010 MVP defensive player Years on the team/Playing the sport: 3/11 After coaching Bonilla for three years on the girls’ soccer team, Coach Sologaistoa said, “She is dedicated and hardworking. She is a motivational force for all players, especially newcomers.” Sport: Volleyball Position: JV setter Years on the team/Playing the sport: 2/5 Kissinger is the girls’ volleyball junior varsity cap- tain. Coach Candilora feels that she is very coach- able. “Kissinger has sound fundamentals that will be developed within the next year. She’s a good leader and a hard worker.” Courtney Kissinger sophomore
