BASEBALL
The world series of Major League
Baseball is the culmination of the
sport's postseason each October.
It is played between the winner of
each of the two leagues, the
American League and the National
League is determined through a
best-of-seven playoff.
BASKETBALLBasketball was invented in 1891. The
National Basketball Association, more
popularly known as the NBA, is the world's
premier men's professional basketball league
and one of the major professional sports
leagues of North America. The Dream Team
was the unofficial nickname of the United
States men's basketball team that won the
gold medal at the 1992 Olympics.
ICE HOCKEY
Ice Hockey is another popular sport in
the United States. Originating from
North America, the sport is commonly
referred to simply as "hockey."
USA Hockey is the official governing
body for amateur hockey in the U.S.
The United States Hockey Hall of Fame
is located in Eveleth, Minnesota.
SOCCER
Soccer, commonly known as
"football" in most countries, is
the least popular of the five
sports traditionally considered
major in the United States.
MOTOR SPORTS
Motor sports are also widely popular
in the United States, but Americans
generally ignore major international
series, such as Formula One and
MotoGP. Promoters and drivers in the
United States discovered that horse
racing tracks could provide better
conditions for drivers and spectators
than public streets.
