GENERAL INFORMATIONCOURSE OBJECTIVESUpon completion of this course, learners should be able to:

• Analyze epidemiological trends in football injuries for professional, collegiate and youth football players

• Integrate prevention strategies with their health care team(s) to improve musculoskeletal and medical health for professional, collegiate and youth football players

• Implement an effective evaluation algorithm for musculoskeletal and medical conditions afflicting football players

• Assess and apply surgical and non-surgical treatment recommendations and rehabilitation protocols for the management of essential musculoskeletal and medical conditions in football

• Implement strategies to institutionalize enhanced collaboration between allied health personnel and team physicians as they care for football athletes

DESCRIPTIONThis conference is designed to identify areas of concern or controversy in the management of high caliber athletes in a team sport setting. Speakers have been selected to provide experiential presentations on various medical and legal topics. Key issues, along with up-to-date and practice solutions, will be addressed. The American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine (AOSSM) and the National Football League Physicians Society (NFLPS) believe these insights will provide guidance for the management of similar problems in competitive and recreational settings.

TARGET AUDIENCEThis conference should prove most valuable to any physician, certified athletic trainer, physical therapist or coach concerned with the management or prevention of injuries to the team athlete.

PROGRAMAOSSM attests that the people responsible for the development of this live activity did so independently and were not influenced by commercial supporters.

STATEMENT OF NEEDA need for this live activity has been determined based on identifying professional practice gaps, previous course evaluations, the AOSSM Self Assessment and the AOSSM Educational curriculum. The content of this course was based on current issues and hot topics provided by AOSSM membership and the NFLPS leadership.

ACCREDITATIONThis activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the Essential Areas and policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education through the joint sponsorship of the AOSSM and the NFLPS. AOSSM is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

AOSSM is recognized by the Board of Certification, Inc. to offer continuing education for Certified Athletic Trainers.

AMA/PRAAOSSM designates this live activity for a maximum of 18.5 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

NATA/CEUsThis program has been approved for a maximum of 18.5 hours of Category A Continuing Education. This continuing education course is considered to be an Essential Level program.

AOSSM POLICY ON JOINT SPONSORSHIPINTRODUCTIONAOSSM is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians. AOSSM requires that all activities which it jointly sponsors comply with the Essential Areas and Policies of the ACCME, and, if designated for credit, with the requirements of the American Medical Association Physician Recognition Award or other appropriate entity.
