yes, star is her name. she was born in oklahoma. her mom and dad decided they wouldn’t name their baby until inspiration came for a good name. six weeks later inspiration hit when mom was admiring the early morning sTars!

star was born in the small town of 500 named Wilberton. The hospital had no nursery so they cleaned out a broom closet to accommodate the newborn.

star went to high school in yakima. star studied geography and graduated from Central Washington university. she has lived in edmonds for 13 years and has been a member of hsaC for 11 of them.

star likes the elliptical machine and will go for a 60 minute workout on low to medium intensity. she likes the program options like various distance and hiking/trail options. she also swims laps, takes vinyasa yoga classes with heather and loves it that her 6 year old son really likes the day care center and the family swims.

Finally star surprised me when she told me how sometimes she likes to come to hsaC and relax in the hot tub, take a sauna or just drink coffee. sounds heavenly star!

Michelle Clyborne Congratulations to member Michelle Clyborne along with a few other friends who trained for 8 months to climb Mount rainier in september, 2011. you can read more about their inspiring journey in The edmonds Beacon.

Sharon Dahl i started training with Patty in november 2010, my goal was to look like the girls in oxygen magazine! i’ll have to admit even though i was already at a good fitness level and had years of resistance training and dance behind me and was a personal trainer myself, i didn’t quite know if it was possible to get there. i had the raw material- a nice amount of muscle and good abs but carried extra body fat in the areas women usually do, hips and thighs! i needed to learn more about body-building specifically, and i had been hearing about Patty for years and how she had won her first competition. Both of us had rachael as a trainer and had met at the gym a few times. i liked Patty im-mediately, we were on the same wavelength, she had a great smile, a wicked sense of humor and was a tiny girl like me!

so, we got started--Patty jokes that at first once i felt the burn i wanted to stop! But i learned to like “the burn” and what it did for my body to really lift heavy. i started to shed body fat just from lifting and saw more definition. i balked a bit at first at the repetitive nature of bodybuilding, but Patty came up with a style that worked with my more “functional training” background. i started to learn how to train myself much of the time with some new exercises she taught me using pyramid sets. Concepts i had learned but had yet to apply to myself. at this point i was not even thinking about competition, just going for “the look”. Leg days were the toughest, sometimes i had to snack during the workout to keep fueled up. over time i learned to how to eat to support my workouts and really began to see food as fuel.

Well, i won my group, the 50 & over Masters Figure category! Then went up one more time for the master’s overall against the over 35 winner, did not win that one but felt like i looked great. exciting! i am so motivated to keep going with figure competition. My next goal is to try “open” competition where i would be competing against all ages! already plan-ning on two natural shows in april!!! and of course Patty will be with me all the way! if you’d like to read my story in it’s entirety, please email Patty smith. if you are interested in training with Patty smith, her contact information is: Patty Smith

HSAC proudly presents: The Diet Doc fREE weight Loss SeminarThursday, January 26th, 6:30pm

Work with a qualified professional who can help you understand nutrition and what’s best for your body. NO MORE DIETS! The idea behind the program is to teach you how and when to eat the foods that you like, in order to successfully reach your fitness goal and can continue to lead a healthy life-style. Clients in the program are taught how their individual body works on a cellular level, and that knowledge is used to design a weight loss program that fits your life. your individualized, personalized program is set up based on whether you want to lose bodyfat, maintain your weight loss or to gain lean healthy muscle. Because everyone is a unique individual, for a weight loss plan to be successful, it must be uniquely designed just for you.

Team up with the seminar facilitators, Kevin and denise James, to optimize your nutrition through this highly effective and successful program. and maximize your fitness goals by working with harbor square’s experienced professional trainers who can design an individualized workout program to help you, along with Kevin and denise, to reach your weight loss goals.

denise is a registered nurse, ace Certified advanced exercise specialist, Lifestyle and Weight Manage-ment Consultant and personal trainer. denise has been involved in the health and fitness industry for 30 years. she is a drug-free professional bodybuilder (iFPa) and master’s figure competitor.
