Biologically Appropriate Real Food for Dogs and Cats
‘’I started making simple minced meat pet foods for
local dog and cat breeders back in 1981. I’m delighted
to say we still sell some of those great products and
they are as popular now as they were all those years
ago.
It’s been a fantastic journey – learning about and
developing our genuinely natural ranges. It’s been
fascinating watching the transformation in the way we
all want to feed our pets.
Today Natures Menu produces some of the healthiest
and most honest pet foods available.
I passionately believe pets deserve healthy foods as part
of a varied diet. Foods based on professional balanced
nutrition – not the over processed junk ingredients
many pets eat.

I hope this booklet will help you make a real dierence
to your pet’s life. You’ll discover how easy, convenient
and cost eective it is to choose a diet that makes
visible improvements to their health and well-being.
Our pets trust us to look after them.
This includes giving them a diet, rich in everything they
need to be naturally healthy and happy. After all, just
like us, “they are what they eat.’’
We still use the best that mother nature
provides us, blending togetherfresh meat and vegetables, adding
oils and herbs too.
NaturallyNourishing
YourPet
In nature everything has a purpose – with an ingenious
yet simple way of staying in balance.
Today we understand that foods kept in a natural
state, unprocessed or by using gentle, simple
processing methods are much less harmful.
They respect the balance of nature and give your pets
a better quality diet.
In their natural environment dogs are carnivorous
omnivores and cats are carnivores. Out of choice, they
prefer real meat, in its raw, uncooked, genuinely natural
state.
It’s true our pets are now part of the family, but at heart
they are still wild animals. Dogs and cats evolved on
planet earth eating fresh raw meat. They may even have
begun to consume a small amount of ancient forms of
grain as they began to live alongside us humans, over
10,000 years ago. Yet todays processed pet foods,
packed with modern rened grains and highly cooked
proteins, have only been a choice for around 60 years!
Just as we are now looking at what we eat ourselves, it is
easy to see how doing so could benet our beloved pets
too.
Your pets thrive best on a genuinely natural diet of good
quality real meat and great quality natural ingredients -
ingredients you recognise, and could even eat yourself.
‘Natural’ has become a bit of a buzz-word in the pet
industry. Look around and you will see a huge variety of products and
a sea of marketing messages all trying to convince us that
highly processed foods are ‘natural’.
But look again. Go beyond the hype. Apply a common sense back-to-basics
natural approach to feeding your animal friends and you’ll see genuine
benets. For you and your pets.
FoodGoodFood
NOTJunk
We need to look hard at those processed products and really think about the ingredients they use, how they are made – and why they look like they do.
The truth is most pet foods these days are made with a blend of powdered meat and bone meals, highly processed grains and various protein derivatives sourced from the bits of animals that wouldn’t normally arrive on your dinner plate. This is everything from "beak to hoof and even including feathers."
They are also packed with cereals and starchy carbohydrates, which aren’t part of a carnivores natural diet. They are processed and cooked to high temperatures and have to then contain synthetic, articial vitamin supplements in order to comply with the regulations for being labelled as complete.
The resulting mix of processed cereals and protein derivatives is often then mixed with avour enhancers, simply to encourage your pet to eat foods that they instinctively would otherwise know, are not meant for them. So, even though it may appear your pet enjoys the food, and you may think the food you are using looks natural, chances are it isn’t. And your beloved pet could just be getting by on a diet of junk.
Trust YOUR Instinct
Natures Menu are proud to be the leading experts in genuinely natural
raw dog and cat food.
We believe in returning to Mother Nature for her unrivalled recipes,
solutions to common health issues and happier, contented pets. Our knowledge and expertise creates foods that nourish your pet on all
levels: active bodies, healthy minds, happy souls.
NatureKnows Best
Natures Menu produce a wide range of foods for your pets.
We know a raw diet for dogs and cats is the best
and most naturally compatible food for them to
eat. For years many people have been concerned
that perhaps raw foods shouldn’t be fed to
pets – in spite of thousands of years of evidence
to the contrary. As a result their true biology was
lost in the ever advancing processing methods
and the call for instant convenience.
Today, professionals like vets, nutritionists and
breeders are looking further into diet as a strong
inuence to health and well-being, and
recognising that raw feeding is the most
biologically appropriate, nourishing way to a
healthy, happy pet.
What is RawFeedingRaw feeding is really about feeding a variety of fresh ingredients

associated preparation has been simplied - take
advantage and maybe see what your dog thinks of
the raw meat diet - I guarantee you, that like me
your dog will be doing backips at the sight of a

complimenting me on my

Did You Know ?Rened carbohydrates
in processed pet foods turn to sugars in our bodies
These converted sugars can feed and populate our guts with unwanted ‘bad’ bacteria. This can lead to and inuence many of the allergies and food intolerances we suer with
these days. Just as many ingredients in your own diets inuence your health
in the same way!
Raw bone is completely dierent to
cooked boneRaw bones are moisture
rich and do not splinter in
the way that cooked dry
bones do. They are much
safer to feed us and in
fact we both already
love to eat these foods
when we are hunting at
playtime! Especially
us cats!
We have stomachs
with a much stronger pH than you humans’
Your stomachs have a 3-4 pH compared to our acidic 1-2pH. Our acidic pH enables us
to digest raw meat and bone material, and cope with certain bacterias you
humans would nd very dicult to cope with.
My anal glands are designed to be emptied regularly, naturally! This is encouraged to happen naturally by the solidness of my stools squeezing past the glands. Many of my friends have anal gland issues, and have to have their owners or vets empty them, poor things! All simply as a result of poor stool quality, from a processed diet. Luckily for me this never has to happen and I tell them that next time they are in the pet shop to drag their owners towards the Natures Menu freezers and make sure it doesn’t have to happen to them again too!
Dogs and cats are not designed to eat starchy carbohydratesAs veterinary dentists will tell you, we have no signcant amylase enzymes in our saliva. Amylase is the starchy carbohydrate digestive enzyme. Us dog’s can produce a small amount of amylase from our pancreas, but for cats this is 3 times lower. This shows our bodies are designed to digest a very limited amount of carbohydrate based foods and not the large amount found in the commercial processed diets you are so keen to feed us. We feel so much more full and satised if we can chomp on and digest a meal of meat and bone!
We dogs and cats are
designed to take our main energy source
from fats and proteins in a raw natural condition
When processed or heated, nutrients, fats and proteins begin to
alter and change their molecular structure. Changing foods basic
nutrients in this way is thought to be a major inuence in the rise
of modern day inammatory conditions and hormone
imbalances many of us pets now suer from. We are really
hoping you will feed us the uncooked fats and proteins we
would feel healthy and great on again!
Processed pet foods can contribute
to a variety of health problems for us
The sugars found in these processed pet foods you keep giving us can also inuence conditions such as diabetes. When you feed us pets a diet that is compatible with our digestive systems and body chemistry we will thrive. Sadly, for many of us pets today,
this is rare. Please try feeding us a raw diet today and see the incredible dierence it brings. We promise we will
be much healthier and better behaved! You’ll wonder why you didn’t do it sooner.
Our family has been producing raw foods since 1981. We still have many of the original local Norfolk farmers providing us with great quality human grade meat portions for our
pet foods.
With over 30 years of experience we employ a great team of raw experts committed to
selecting the nest ingredients, providing the cleanest production and personal delivery of
our great foods.

A FamilyBusiness
Tasty, Safe, Ethical
Tasty, Safe, Ethical
We always aim to provide the nest meals for your pet’s raw dinners.
This begins with the fantastic relationships we have with our suppliers
and local Norfolk farmers.
These long-lasting partnerships, built over many years, enable us to
ensure full traceability of each and every raw meal that leaves
our factory.
We ensure only the nest, safest and most palatable of
ingredients are used to produce our foods.
As animal lovers ourselves we are committed to using
ingredients from caring farmers that comply with ethical
animal farming regulations.
We are registered with DEFRA to ensure we source and
process all our raw foods as ethically as possible, safely
and to the highest standards. Our technical team
consistently check the texture, quality and ingredients
we use to make sure they are as appetising as they could
be for your pets.
The meat we use comes from ethically raised, human
grade sources.
We never use battery farmed chickens or other meat
products and conduct our own extensive in-house
microbiological testing. So you can be 100% certain the
food we produce for your pet is as safe to handle and
feed as the meat you eat yourselves.
Natures Menu raw pet foods are very safe to feed and
handle. We have zero tolerance for salmonella in raw
foods and because we really do care, we perform our
own regular product safety tests and raw material supply
chain checks, as well as performing the tests required by
the industry. We publish these results to DEFRA and our
professional vet partners.

The RAW Team
Our company vet Nick Thompson has been a vet for 21 years. For 15 of those, he has been very successfully recommending
raw feeding for skin, bowel and behavioural problems. When asked for his advice on the best nutrition for cats and dogs, his answer is simple: 'Raw is Best’
‘’At College, we weren't really taught much on cat and dog nutrition. We did have 1 morning's lecture with one of the large prescription diet
manufacturers, telling us about their foods, but not a lot more because it was considered that everything you needed to know
came in a bag of kibble!
How things have changed for me. Having completed my own research and education into cat and dog
nutrition and biology. I have now been advocating raw food for pets for 15 years. I use it for all types of skin disease; atopy, pollen and house
mite allergies, itching problems, scurf and greasy coat issues. I've seen dogs who haven't had a rm stool in their whole lives transformed in
two days after going onto a raw food diet. Dogs with constipation, anal gland issues, diarrhoea, IBS, fussy eaters, obesity, dogs that can't put on
weight, you name it, I've treated it successfully with a raw food diet. More recently it's become apparent that dogs with aggression, anxiety and hyperactivity issues can do really well on raw food; calming down
and enjoying food for the rst time in their lives.
Owners who go on to raw food are initially, universally, very worried. However if I had a penny for every time I had a phone call,
a few weeks after going onto the food, from people saying how amazing it was, I'd be a rich man!
Finally, clients often say their vets are against raw food. This is usually not the case. Vets are against owners feeding an unbalanced diet without any guidance from a responsible professional. I nd that
generally, once they know that there is a professional overseeing their animal's diet and the diet is balanced and well thought through, they
are ne. They are even more ne when they see the results of the diet - the dog bouncing through the door of their consulting room.
All in all, I think nutrition is a simple subject; feed a balanced raw food diet recommended by nutritionally
educated professionals. “

Feeding a raw diet is easy. And it’s easy on your pocket too, with Natures Menu
products giving you excellent value for money. Our foods provide a real solution to
giving your pet a highly nutritious diet without breaking the budget!
General guidelines suggest your pet should have around 2-3% of his or her body weight in
food each day. However they are only guidelines. It’s much more important to tailor
the amount you feed according to:
Pets nd our foods very satisfying. The quality nutritional content may mean
they eat less than they did on previous foods. Sometimes dogs will self-regulate and give themselves a day o. This is very common, so don’t worry. If for any reason
your dog shows other symptoms of ill health always consult your vet.
Once defrosted, do not re-freeze your pet’s food.
Always use fresh meat for your pet for each meal.
Treat the meats just as you would your own
food. Afterall it comesfrom human grade
sources!
Always keep an eye on your pets if they have been given a chewing bone to eat or play with.
Once chewing bones have had the meaty sections chewed o you can keep these a little longer and even rinse under boiling water if need beto keep them safer & clean.
Some pets will happily and healthily eat less
or sometimes give themselves a day o
foods, this mimics what would often occur in the wild.

Steam Cooked
Pouches Cans&
Whilst raw is best, we understand that raw isn’t practical for every pet on every day of the year. That’s why we developed a range of pouches and cans that have exactly the same high quality meats, vegetables, fruits, and single source grains or potato. We mix the ingredients fresh and then gently steam cook them inside their packaging rather than cooking them outside and then pouring them in. By doing so we ensure the nutrients are retained within the pouch or can and not lost through the cooking process. You really will see the dierence with a Natures Menu can or pouch. They contain between 55-70% real meat and goodness – dramatically superior in quality to processed foods which typically contain 4% actual real meat, and then powdered meat meal derivatives.

Tinkerbell – 8-year old domestic short hair Cats were eating raw food long before we domesticated them. It was their talent for catching rodents that bought them into our lives and ultimately into our homes and onto our
sofas. Tinkerbell’s owners were disappointed with the llers and low quality ingredients they found
were in a lot of the cat foods on the market. They were keen to try a diet that was so close to
what nature intended.
Tinkerbell is fed around 180gm or 26 a day. She also has days when she isn’t as hungry as others, as cats are incredibly good at self regulating their food intake.
Her dinners cost her family around £6.50 a week
Bodie – 2-year old Maine Coon Bodie is an adventurous outdoors cat and quite a hunter.
He relishes his Natures Menu complete raw cat food, rarely leaving a single morsel in the bowl. And his owner is delighted to nd a food that Bodie will actually come
running back into the house for!
Bodie has around
280g or 40 per day = £1.41 a dayof one of our cat nugget complete raw meals.
Alfie 10-yr old German Shepherd
One of the great things about a raw diet is the dierence it can make to dogs with ailments such as arthritis or sensitive digestive issues.
Ale suered from both before he began his raw diet. His owners were amazed at the positive dierence a change of diet has had and
feel that Natures Menu Senior Raw Complete has given him a new lease of life.
They were even more amazed to discover that giving Ale the recommended
680g, 40 of the food only costs around £13.00 a week
PUPPYFeedingGuidelines
Puppies Aged 0-3 Weeksshould be drinking the mother's milk to obtain essential nutrients, enzymes and essential fatty acids.
Puppies Aged 3-4 WeeksNeed 3 meals a day. Feed around 8% of the puppy's body weight per day. Mash the foods up very well. If the pups have stopped drinking milk from their mother try adding goat’s milk to their diet too, as this is very easy for puppies to digest and full of nutrients. Puppies need a little help digesting their foods at this stage, so sometimes it is better for them to have the feeds lightly cooked. This will mimic the regurgitation that mother dogs provide for their pups in the wild, making the food more digestible for them.

7-month old Boxer puppy
Lily loves our food and is growing into a wonderfully calm balanced dog. Her owners
chose the raw diet as they knew it would provide a natural balance of nutrients and
especially minerals such as calcium, magnesium and phosphorus.
They are convinced she is a calmer puppy than their friends’ boxer puppy and were keen to
share that the cost of feeding a raw diet is not as high as most people think!
Lily eats 2 meals of Puppy Raw Complete and also enjoys a meaty chewing bone such as a turkey neck.
Her diet only costs £9.50 a week.
Many of our customers who own larger breed adult dogs only feed 1% or 1.5% of their body weight per day and their dogs
thrive on this amount.
The guidelines are just that, guidelines. And they are best tailored to t the activity levels, health, metabolism, lifestyle and importantly breed size of
your dog as an individual.
TipsTopPuppies Aged 6-12 Weeks
At this stage you can begin to introduce a small amount of raw bone within the meal, such as chicken wings. No large raw bones just yet. Most pups will begin to wean from their mother at 3-4 weeks and be weaned completely at 7-8 weeks. They will still benet from some mother’s milk even up to 12-weeks old, if she has any milk left, or any tolerance left to feed them!
Puppies Aged Over 12 Weeks (3-Months)Feed 2 meals a day. You should be able to feed all the variety of adult raw foods by this stage. Introduce raw meaty bones now too.
Puppies Aged Over 4 MonthsBegin to reduce the amount your puppy eats per day. Aim to reach 6% of body weight and then 4% by the time the puppy is 6-months old.Continue to gradually reduce the % of food your puppy eats as he grows up. Dropping from 4% of his body weight per day to 3% and then down to 2% by the time he is a year old.
