RUTLAND RECREATION &PARKS DEPARTMENT FACILITIES

SUPERINTENDENT’SCOMMENTS

Spring is just around the corner! This time of yearis such a wonderful time as the flowers and treesstart to bloom it revitalizes my energy. As much

as I enjoy all of the seasons the transition from winter tospring is the most exciting. With each passing day, theweather gets warmer and all of nature comes alive.

The Recreation and Parks Department is still in a stateof limbo as of January 19th 2012. Our offices remain atthe Godnick Adult Center facility where we continue tooffer as much programming as we can in that facility. We appreciate everyone’s patience as we navigatethrough this transition period. Although we have all felta little squeezed by the space constraints, it has beena joy to have our offices at Godnick. Experiencing allof the energy surrounding the folks that frequent theGodnick Center on a regular basis has been refreshing.

This spring our department will have its hands full inmany ways. The parks and maintenance division willbe focusing most of its energy bringing the ball fieldson line as soon as possible. With respect to MonsignorConnor Park and Giorgetti Park, due to tropical stormIrene we will have to wait and see. The grounds crewwill be aggressively working at both sites to continueto restore the turf damage, but we won’t know for sureif the fields will be available this year. Our priority willbe focused on the long term use for those facilities. Therefore, if we have to sacrifice time this year we willdo so. However, due to these circumstances our programstaff is diligently looking for alternative solutions tostill provide the same level of programs we offer in thespring and summer. I am hopeful that after this yearmost things will be back to normal again.

The Giorgetti ice rink will remain open through March4th. I hope you all have had an opportunity to enjoythe different possibilities it offers from ice skating toplaying hockey, broomball or curling. The rink is opento the public many different times during each weekwith increased hours of operation during the schoolvacation week. Please visit our website at rutlandrec.com to see the rink schedule and make sure you comedown and enjoy the arena. From March 5th throughMarch 9th we’re busy removing the ice and putting downthe indoor turf to prepare for a 7 week season of soccer, field hockey, lacrosse and even flag football. Make sureyou sign up for one of these opportunities. The turfis awesome and provides for one of the best indoorexperiences in New England.

Thank you to the Rutland Herald and to the businessesthat choose to support our department by advertising inthis publication. Don’t forget to look for weekly updatesevery Wednesday in the Herald and visit our websiteat rutlandrec.com for news on ongoing and upcomingprograms and events.

Rejuvenate your mind, body and soul, come out and getactive this spring with the Rutland Recreation and ParksDepartment.

Sincerely,

EJay BishopEJay Bishop, Superintendent

Sports injury management, rehabilitation and training are a focus at

Vermont Orthopaedic Clinic. At both our main campus and our adjunct

facility, Killington Medical Clinic, we design and deliver programs that make

use of the most advanced sports medicine techniques in practice today—

programs that train the entire body, rather than just treat the injury.

Through our leading-edge iSPORT program and our association with

Rutland Regional Medical Center, VOC has brought injured, world-class

athletes, Olympians and active sports enthusiasts back to top performance.

For information on orthopaedic injuries and treatments,
