Bath Half Marathon and Fun Run On Sunday 2nd March a team
of 24 wonderful individuals ran
the Bath Half Marathon raising
money for SWALLOW.
The team included veteran Team
SWALLOW member, Rhian Denton,
who has completed the race every
year for the last 3 years raising over
£500 in total! Our fastest runner,
Cameron Kavanagh, completed the
13.1 miles in just 1 hour 33 minutes
whilst our top fundraiser this year is
Jim Rutherford who has raised a fantastic £580! Total sponsorship from this year’s Bath Half
Marathon looks set to be just under £5,000. Thank you to the whole of Team SWALLOW!
Two SWALLOW members also participated in the
Bath Family Fun Run. Mark Filer and Daniel
Bates (pictured below) were the keen runners
and completed the 1.5 miles in just over 8
minutes. Mark has so far raised the brilliant
sum of £537 and will be running the Bristol 10k
later this year!

‘The Keynsham groups had a visit from
the Chairman of B&NES Council, Neil
Butters, on the 18th March. He was very
impressed with what we are doing
at Keynsham and asked lots of
questions about SWALLOW.

SWALLOW Community Cafe
Work Skills Enterprise Scheme
We are thrilled to announce that the WSES has a new
venture - the SWALLOW Community Cafe. The Cafe is
based at the Church Rooms on Church Road, Radstock and
we will be open for snacks and drinks every Wednesday and
Friday between 11am and 3pm.
The Cafe gives WSES participants the opportunity to gain
hands on work experience either in the kitchen preparing
food, or front of house waiting on customers. This is a very exciting development and we
hope that the Cafe will become a central part of the local community.
Horticulture WSES The long awaited, and longed for, greenhouse has now been erected in the Base House
garden (thanks to Midsomer Norton Town Council and The Sperring Trust) and is an
amazing addition to the Horticulture group.
Lazy Days Landscaping did a fantastic job
laying the foundations and the group are
looking forward to starting work on the spring
hanging baskets and planting new season
flowers and vegetables. Here they are
pictured on their first visit to the greenhouse.
The group are also continuing to nurture the
raised beds, pond and wildlife garden
installed by Avon Wildlife Trust.
Craft - Forget me Not Throughout the Spring and Summer months the WSES will see a packed diary of craft
stalls and fairs where the Forget me Not products will be sold. A full list of dates and
venues is on display in the SWALLOW office.

Evaluation Day 2014 Our annual Evaluation Day was held at The Church Rooms, Radstock on Thursday 27
th
February. As always it is a great opportunity for SWALLOW members, staff and families
to get together and review events from the past year and plan activities for the next 12
months. We had a great day and enjoyed a wonderful lunch at The Radstock Hotel.
Thank you to everyone for your help and work, this year is set to be our busiest yet! The
Work Skills participants made the following comments about the day...
It was a brilliant lunch!
I liked finding out what was going on in other groups. Now
I know what goes on at Chilcompton on a Wednesday, I want
to join that group and do some drama, cookery and zumba.
I was pleased to share what I had
been doing in SWALLOW with Mum.
I enjoyed taking part in the
singing and dancing.
Meri and Helen really helped us express
our ideas.
It was good to spend the day with
people we know and are happy
with. I have made more friends
at SWALLOW.
Helping to give feedback to everyone at Evaluation
day, made me feel confident and proud.
Dear All
As promised I have attached photo's of the Agusta Westland Helicopter
trip I was lucky enough to win in your prize draw at the latter end of last
year.
Three of my friends and I had the trip on the 2nd April and we were
fortunate to have our flight extended on the day as they needed to pick
up a test pilot from Brize Norton so it meant the flight lasted well over an
hour.
On the trip to Brize I was able to sit in the co-pilot seat which I found
amazing, with great views and the chatter through my headphones allowed
me to listen to all the air to ground interchanges.
May I take this opportunity of thanking you and your team for this
wonderful prize.
Kind regards
Iain McLaren

Base House “We all helped make a chocolate cake,
some of use prepared the mixture and the
others did the decorating when it was
cooked. Billy has been helping us at Base
House. She showed me how to spread the
butter icing in the middle and top of the
cake. We made it look pretty because we
piped it. I put white chocolate drops in a
circle on the top. It was really tasty and lots
of fun.”
