The leisure Access program provides low income residents with access to recreation programs and services.

The program ensures that residents are not restricted from access or participation in a reasonable variety of recreation activities due to financial hardship.

Residents are provided with a mechanism for accessing subsidies which incorporates confidentiality, dignity, privacy and easy access.

White Rock residents: 50% off 1 White Rock leisure Services program 0r 1 Multi-Session Drop-in fitness Pass1 per season* per individual; Membership and some specialty programs are exempt.

Set in a forested park, the lively Centennial Park Leisure Centre and ice rink complex brings together everything that makes life in White Rock so rich and vibrant. Along with the Centre for Active Living and Semiah-moo Arts, playing fields, fenced off-leash dog park, kids’ playground, lacrosse box and tennis courts there are endless oppor-tunities for outdoor fun and fitness.

From intimate meeting spaces with an outdoor deck to the 2,000 sq ft hall overlooking the full-sized rink, people gather to enjoy skating, hockey, a variety of fitness and dance classes, sports activities and personal celebrations. In the warmer months, the ice arena rink transforms into a dry floor for indoor sports, trade shows and community events.

The White Rock Community Centre has a large, bright art room, where a variety of art classes take place for all ages and abilities. The Community Centre is home to the Art on Display program, a partnership between the City of White Rock and Semiahmoo

Arts. In a series of five to eight themed juried exhibitions held throughout the year, Art on Display showcases work in a variety of media by local artists. The White Rock Community Centre also hosts numerous cultural special events, including the Inter-national Artist Day Festival and Christmas on the Peninsula.

The White Rock Museum and Archives is dedicated to preserving and promoting local history and culture and is located in the historic White Rock Train Station. The Museum offers changing exhibits and programs that interpret regional and local

history and challenges visitors to think about the future as well as the past. One of the Museum’s permanent programs is the Art Wall in the Exhibition Gallery. It provides an opportunity for schools on the Peninsula to partner with the Museum to showcase art work.

ART In ouTSIDE loCATIonSThe City of White Rock offers unique oppor-tunities for artists to display and sell their work in outdoor spaces. At the Waterfront, there are four busker locations to listen and watch local talent. Buskers can also be seen in uptown on sunny summer days. The waterfront is home to the Artists Walk, art displays and demonstrations on the White Rock Museum and Archives Plaza and along the West Beach promenade. Artists Walk is a great place to meet local artists

and learn more about what makes White Rock a talented artistic community.

The addition of art in public spaces cre-ates a more aesthetically pleasing environ-ment for residents and visitors. White Rock has many unique public art pieces. Take a walk around town and see which public art pieces you can spot. Check out whiterock-culture.ca – a dynamic, interactive and community-driven arts and culture hub.

Located adjacent to City Hall, the library acts as a meeting space for many literary and cultural groups. The library hosts book clubs, writing clubs and a history club that are all open to the public. On the second Wednesday of each month they hold an SFU Philosopher’s Café- these are not to be missed! The library also hosts monthly art exhibitions on their art wall and is a great venue for local artists to display art. Contact the library directly for more details on their programming and events.

Semiahmoo Arts, the Arts Council of White Rock and District, occupies the former Mel Edwards Centre next to Centennial Arena. Semiahamoo Arts is an umbrella organiza-tion dedicated to supporting the arts com-munity in White Rock, South Surrey and Semiahmoo First Nation. The Arts Council facilitates collaborative cultural endeavours and supports artists in a variety of creative disciplines. From arts advocacy to mentor-ship, the Arts Council is an active team of individuals working to foster our thriving and diverse arts community. The Semiah-moo Arts holds art shows, musical perfor-mances and a variety of cultural events.
