Welcome to the City of Loveland Parks & RecreationDepartment’s Spring 2016 Leisure Times Activity Guide!

I am Elizabeth Anderson, the Parks & Recreation Director for the City of Loveland. As this is my second full spring since arriving in Loveland, I thought I would share my “Top 5 Reasons to Enjoy Loveland Parks & Recreation in Spring!” A few thoughts did spring to mind…

Put a little spring in your step with one of our fitness and wellness classes! Whether you’re a beginner or a seasoned expert, the Chilson Cen-ter has the right class for you. From Water Walking to Zumba or Boot Camp,

you’re sure to transform winter into May flowers! Check out an array of fitness classes…in the gym, water, and the great outdoors.

Spring into action in one of our youth or adult programs! Want some kids fun for spring break? Check into Spring Break Day Camps, youth classes, athletic programs, or get a Spring Break Pass for unlimited use at the Chilson Recreation Center! For

parents, a great selection of athletic leagues and leisure interest classes are available. I suggest an arts & crafts class for the Renoir in you!

Spring forward to new adventure with an Active Generation Day Trip! Oh, the places you will go! Join the Lunch Bunch, go on a Casino Trip, to a Rockies Game or a production of “River’s Dance.” Your next adventure is just a bus trip away!

Spring up from the white and into the green! Tee up some fun at one of our municipal golf courses! Take a lesson, try your hand at our new “Games on the Range” at Marianna Butte or try the SNAG course at Cattail Creek. Of course, Loveland has some of the finest city parks in northern Colorado

so go out and explore Mehaffey Park, reserve a shelter for a family picnic, explore the wildlife habitat at River’s Edge Natural Area, or breathe in the fresh spring air as you hike the beautiful Recreation Trail.

Fun is springing up everywhere! All you have to do is stop, look and listen: Loveland is alive with nature’s promise of spring. So, what are you waiting for? Now’s the time to make Parks & Recreation a part of your everyday life! We’re ready to help you reach goals, discover new adventures, increase your

knowledge and most of all, have FUN doing it!

Our department is proud to focus efforts on Three Pillars of Parks and Recreation: Conservation, Health & Wellness, and Social Equity, ensuring we make a positive impact on the quality of life in Loveland. In the conservation pillar, our parks are critically important in preserving natural resources that have quantifiable economic benefits to our community, in addition to intrinsic environmental, aesthetic, and recreation benefits. Oftentimes, parks and recreation agencies are the only voice for ensuring that open space is protected, that our youth have access to nature-related areas, and that services and outdoor education are available. In the health and wellness pillar, our parks and recreation staff are leaders in improving and enhancing health and wellness by offering fitness, sports, and healthy lifestyle classes for people of all ages and abilities. We are actively engaged in reducing obesity, physical inactivity, and poor nutrition, while strengthening skills that enrich our mind, body and overall attitude.

In the social equity pillar, our department embraces complete access and inclusion to park and recreation services and facilities. We strive to be a catalyst for ensuring that all residents have equal access to their resources and services and that we offer opportunities that transcend barriers of income through low income fee structure and scholarship opportunities with our Foundation. A growing 17.5 mile trail system provides safe recreational opportunities that are accessible to a variety of users, including those with barriers to mobility.
