Remember Why Alpha Omicron Is Important to You

Project Manager and Architect Chosen for the Campaign

Since the Pride in Our Past, Building Our Legacy capital campaign was publicly announced in November, we have been

inspired by our sisters who are living out the creed of Alpha Delta Pi. As a result of your gifts received, we have raised $724,890. With nearly 9% participation to date, we can only imagine what will be accomplished as more sisters join our efforts to reach our $1 million goal.

The House Corporation (HC) Board and the capital campaign committee are working hard to ensure campaign details will seamlessly come together. Chad Pepper has been named our project manager and we are coordinating with him to reach our objectives and stay on our projected timeline. We have also selected an architect for final design—Newcomb Architects. They have completed survey of our property and finished a soil sampling. Newcomb will ultimately allow for a more efficient utilization of our property and provide modern design options. Financing options are still being researched for this project, so stay tuned as more details come to fruition.

Choosing to give is a big decision, but choosing to be a member at Alpha Omicron was an even bigger one, and giving is a way to celebrate our membership in Alpha Delta Pi. If you have yet to show your financial support to the campaign, we encourage you to consider the influences Alpha Omicron has had on your life. Sisters, we ask you to think about your career, your best friend, your family; would these be the same if ADPi had not been part of your life?

To those who have already given, thank you! Please consider seeking out a sister whose name you do not see on the donor list and ask her to join you in supporting Alpha Omicron. While we are so grateful to the 186 donors, we look to those who have already given to help inspire those who have yet to participate.

Together we can provide safety and a competitive advantage to the Alpha Omicron Chapter. The creed of Alpha Delta Pi guided us as collegians, and it continues to bind us today. Endows in Alpha Omicron’s Future

For Arlene Hamm Manthey ’75, Alpha Delta Pi is more than just a network of talented young women, it’s

a family. “The minute that I stepped into the Chapter house for that first time, I knew that ADPi was the sorority for me,” she says. “I was in heaven and I was wearing blue and white that day—it was destiny that I be an ADPi.” Arlene has countless fond memories from her undergraduate years, and it goes to show that her experience with the women of Alpha Omicron has made her into the woman she is today.

After graduation from Oklahoma State University, Arlene served as an Alpha Delta Pi traveling collegiate secretary (now known as a leadership consultant) from 1978-79. “That allowed me the once-in-a-lifetime experience of actually petting a full-grown king of the jungle lion on the campus of University of North Alabama during my very first chapter visit,” she says. “The year as a TCS also launched my lifelong career in student affairs.”

New Chapter Advisor Brandi Woods-Littlejohn ’93 to Replace

Melissa Vanatta Hamby ’90

Melissa Vanatta Hamby ’90 began advising the Alpha Omicron Chapter in 2000 as the Standards Advisor. She moved to the Chapter Advisor position in April 2001 and continued in that position until February 1. During her

time as an advisor, she was fortunate to see much growth and improvement in the Chapter. In addition to being Chapter Advisor, she also served as the President and the Vice President of the State Alumnae Association for many years and is a member of the Tulsa Alumnae Association.

Melissa began serving as District V Academic Resource Volunteer in November 2014. She was able to continue in her Chapter Advisor role during her time as ARV. As the new Rho II Province Director, Melissa works with the chapters at Texas Tech University, the University of North Texas, Texas Christian University, and Baylor University.

Brandi Woods-Littlejohn ’93 has served as the Financial Advisor for several years. Under her guidance, the Chapter has received several financial awards and was recently recognized as “the chapter with the best financial management.” There’s only one award given in the district out of 23 chapters. The Chapter also received the Eleanor Abbott Harris Finance Excellence award and the 0% Accounts Receivable award.

Arlene has been at Southern Methodist University for 31 years. For the past 10 years, she has been the Associate Director of Development for the Division of Student Affairs where she raises money for priority funding initiatives of the division. “It’s about building relationships and working directly with people,” she says. Arlene has worked tirelessly over the years to help the students of SMU find their path. On Christmas Eve 2014, Arlene received a call from eight SMU alumni from her early years as an advisor for the SMU Program Council. The alumni had established a scholarship for student leaders in her honor. Their goal was to endow the scholarship so that it would be a part of SMU for the life of the institution. “It was truly one of the most monumental and inspirational moments in my journey in higher education,” she says. “I have been blessed by finding my career purpose and passion in life.”

Her enthusiasm in helping others has never faltered. In her career, she is always connecting with students and alumni to keep their passion for their alma mater alive. “A typical day is about reconnecting, reengaging, and finding that meaningful project or fund or need that resonates with a donor,” Arlene says. “It’s also

imperative that we work with our students to help them understand the importance of remaining involved and giving back to their alma mater once they graduate.”

Even outside of her career, she is dedicated to keeping the fundamentals of ADPi alive by investing in the future of the Chapter. “I want the Alpha Omicron Chapter to remain the First. Finest. Forever. on the

campus of my alma mater so that young women can continue to find the kind of sisterhood that will help shape and direct their life journeys in the most powerful and impactful ways that I know. Without a new Chapter house, I do not believe that our future as a sorority at Oklahoma State University can be guaranteed. We simply must do this and need the support of all our Alpha Omicron alumnae.”

Arlene and Chuck, her husband of 35 years, reside in Richardson, Texas. They have two sons, Ben and Chris, both graduates of SMU. Her pride and passion for the sorority has been raised exponentially because of all the outstanding women that lead the Alpha Omicron Chapter and exemplify Alpha Delta Pi’s motto—First. Finest. Forever.

Alpha Omicron Continues Its Success Recruitment and Leadership Flourishes over the 2016-17 Year

Alpha Omicron has been busy this spring semester. We are in full “recruitment mode” as we had a successful Greek Discovery Day on March 25. We are looking forward to Formal Fall Recruitment and can’t wait to meet all our

new Alphas!

23 AlphasThis spring, Alpha Omicron took in 23 new Alphas, an amazing accomplishment for our Chapter. This is an extremely prestigious accomplishment for Continuous Open Recruitment. All Alphas are successfully working toward completing their Alpha education member sessions and we look forward to having them initiated.

Strong Philanthropy and AcademicsOn March 1, Alpha Omicron wrapped up our third annual Pop Tab and Drop It competition benefiting Ronald McDonald House charities. The event, which takes place every spring, consisted of different fraternities competing in a dance competition. Alpha Omicron continues to put emphasis on our Chapter GPA. For the past six semesters, Alpha Omicron has consistently raised our overall

GPA.

Successful Homecoming As loyal and true Cowboys, all Oklahoma State fans love Homecoming and Alpha Omicron is no exception. We were pleased that our Homecoming deck with the men

of Kappa Alpha Order had the most air time on ESPN. We also are pleased to announce that we are paired with the men of Pi Kappa Alpha for Homecoming 2017. We are sure our deck will be a hit this year!

Varsity Revenue and Spring SingAlpha Omicron is also very talented in the singing and dancing department! This past winter, we were paired with the men of Alpha Tau Omega for Varsity Revue. The show was a big success and we had involvement from all four grade levels of collegians! For Spring Sing 2017, we are paired with the men of FIJI and Phi Delta Theta.

Four Awards at DLCAt the District Leadership Conference, Alpha Omicron came home with various awards. AO scored high in the category of finance, taking home three awards: 0% Accounts Receivable, Finance Excellence, and Best Financial Management. We also received excellence in the category of philanthropy!

Chapter Events Alpha Omicron hosted our mothers at the Chapter house for Mom’s Day on April 8. We announced scholarship awards, crafted, and light bites were provided by the Chapter. We look forward to

hosting a members-only workshop on how to further portray the high ideals of Alpha Delta Pi through social media. We are excited to see what we learn and how Alpha Omicron can benefit!

Last but not least, it is important to mention that the Alpha Omicron sisterhood is stronger than ever. AO stresses the ideals put forth by our founding sisters and never

forgets to focus on sisterhood before all else. Here at Alpha Omicron, our members are constantly living for each other and strengthening the bonds of our sisterhood that tie us together.
