Internship Options
Traditional Internship
Pre-II Semester: ● 10 internship days, once a week, 10 weeks
● Last semester to finish course work

Full Intern Semester: ● 12 credit hours, student teaching internship, 16 weeks, Mon-Fri
● Placed with different teacher & different school than Pre-II semester
● No other classes – graduate this semester
EPIC Internship
Co-Teaching Model & Significant increase in teaching experience level & preparedness
Pre-II Semester: ● 3 days (2 ½ min) a week internship, 14-15 weeks
● 2 days of the week for university classes
● NSU Coordinator support
● Trained in Co-Teaching model
● Start internship at same time as clinical faculty report to school (August in Fall
semester, January in Spring semester), before NSU semester begins
● EPIC Public school districts: Tahlequah, Broken Arrow, Grand View, Tulsa, Union,
Sallisaw, Stilwell, & Owasso, and other school districts upon request
● Begin internship as soon as Clinical Faculty report to school
Full Intern Semester: ● 12 credit hours of student teaching 16 weeks, Mon-Fri,
● Placed with same teacher as Pre-II Semester
● Start & End School year with 1 teacher

COURSE INFORMATION
Traditional Internship teacher candidates are required to spend one full day per week
(the hours of the faculty) for 10 days, over 10 weeks at a school site.
EPIC Internship teacher candidates must attend 3 full days (2 ½ min) per week (the
hours of the faculty) for approximately 35-40 days, over 15 weeks at a school site.
Participate in all four (4) required seminars (classes) during the internship semester. ALL
PRE-II Seminars are MANDATORY for both Traditional and EPIC Interns (see below for the
times and location). Seminars occur generally once a month.
You can attend the Seminars on any campus. If you cannot attend the Seminar on the
scheduled date at one campus, you are required to attend an alternate date at the other
campus. No prior notification is needed to attend on either campus.

Traditional Interns begin their internship after attending the first Pre-II seminar.
EPIC interns begin their internship as soon as the hosting public school teachers
report for the new school year.
Placement results will be shared via Google Drive and will require you to sign in through your
NSU Gmail account. The Google Doc will be posted by Tuesday, November 28th. Placements
will continue to be added through the beginning of the semester.
Professional dress is expected for all seminars and internship days. No jeans (or
similar), no leggings or sweats, no T-shirts or hoodie sweatshirts. Dress conservatively

Congratulations on choosing teaching as your profession. You have selected a noble
profession where you will have the opportunity to influence the lives of many people during the
course of your career. By participating in the Pre-Internship program you will interact with
professionals, such as your methods instructor, public school principal, and clinical faculty as well as
your EDUC 4032 Pre Internship II Instructor. You will learn from them as they assist you in preparing
to become a professional educator.
As you begin these final semesters of your teacher preparation program, it is prudent to think
too, about the additional fees associated with completing your degree.
Pre-II Internship semester:

● Oklahoma Subject Area Test (OSAT) required in your major to continue on into
your full internship; $90.00 per test
Full Internship semester:

Pre-Internship II is a field-based experience intended to add a realistic element to the
theoretical base of the teacher education program. You will spend a minimum of ten (10) full days in
a public or private school setting. This experience is expected to provide a realistic and supportive
environment in your professional preparation. The theme, “Preparing Professional Educators,” along
with the components of the conceptual framework that supports the NSU Teacher Education program
is emphasized throughout the Pre-Internship program.

PRE-INTERNSHIP I
To be eligible for enrollment in EDUC 3313, Clinical Education and Pre-Internship I, a student must:
1. _____ Have completed 45 hours and have a 2.75 overall GPA;
NOTE: Beginning fall 2013 GPA admission requirements for Teacher Education is 2.75 overall
for incoming freshmen and new transfer students. Also, beginning fall 2013 and after receiving
full admission, all candidates must maintain a 2.50 GPA overall, in major content area, and
professional education core classes except for Early Childhood, Elementary, and Special
Education majors, who must maintain a 2.75 GPA overall, in major content area, and
professional education core classes.
2. _____ Show verification that he or she has taken or registered to take the Oklahoma General Education
Test (OGET);
3. _____ Be enrolled in EDUC 3313. Concurrent enrollment in EDUC 3113 is suggested.
4. _____ Complete a felony background check prior to school setting placement.
To successfully complete EDUC 3313 and Pre-Internship I and become fully admitted to the NSU Teacher
Education program, a teacher candidate must:
1. _____ Complete 8 full days (1 day for 8 weeks) in a field-based experience;
2. _____ Begin a reflective journal for all field experiences;
3. _____ Complete a Professional Interview;
4. _____ Complete a Professional Habits Inventory;
5. _____ Apply for admission to Teacher Education;
6. _____ Complete a plan of study with academic advisor and or faculty advisor;
7. _____ Have a passing score on the OGET;
8. _____ Pass ePortfolio Checkpoint #1 (Competency 9).
PRE-INTERNSHIP II
To be eligible to enroll in EDUC 4032, Pre-Internship II, a teacher candidate must:
1. _____ Have successfully completed EDUC 3313 with a “C” or better;
2. _____ Have successfully completed or concurrently enrolled in EDUC 4823 & SPED
4433 with a “C” or better;
3. _____ Have earned a 2.50 GPA in overall, major and professional education areas;

8. _____ The Pre Internship II placement seminar is held prior to the Pre Internship II
semester and attendance is required. Information as to time and date are
embedded in the instruction page to the Pre-II application.
To successfully complete EDUC 4032, Pre-Internship II, the teacher candidate will:
1. _____ Complete 10 full days (1 day for 10 weeks) in a field-based experience;
2. _____ Continue reflective journal for field experiences;
3. _____ Attend all required seminars;
4. _____ Turn in one graded or approved to be taught lesson plan (by NSU faculty) with reflection;
5. _____ Turn in written assignments, reflections, and Activity Record;
6. _____ Submit via Chalk & Wire observation of lesson by clinical faculty and peer;
7. _____ Pass ePortfolio Checkpoint #2 (Competencies 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 8, & 10).
During the Pre II semester the candidate will
1._____ Make application for Full Internship Program and graduation (application for
Bachelor’s degree; August 15th for fall, January 15th for spring, March 15th for
summer);
2. _____ Complete a Placement Interview for Full Internship Program;
3. _____ Attend Orientation Seminar for Full Internship Program;
4. _____ Take the appropriate Oklahoma Subject Area Test (OSAT).
FULL INTERNSHIP PROGRAM
To be eligible to enroll in the NSU Full Internship Program, the teacher candidate must have:
1. _____ Application on file in the Clinical Education office the semester prior to Full
Internship;
2. _____ Successfully completed Full Internship Program interview with a university coordinator;
3. _____ Successfully completed EDUC 4032 and ECED 4513, ELED 4563, or EDUC 4353;
4. _____ A 2.5 GPA in overall, major and professional education areas;
NOTE: Beginning fall 2013 GPA admission requirements for Teacher Education will be 2.75
overall for incoming freshmen and new transfer students. Also, beginning fall 2013 and after
receiving full admission, all candidates must maintain a 2.50 GPA overall, in major content

1. _____ Complete 80 full days (560 instructional clock hours, 5 days per week for 16
weeks) in a clinical experience classroom;
2. _____ Attend all required seminars;
3. _____ Complete all assignments and reflections;
4. _____ Submit via Chalk & Wire all observations and evaluations from university coordinator, clinical
faculty and peer;
5. _____ Pass ePortfolio Checkpoint #3 (Learning Project; competencies 6 & 7).
During the Full Internship the teacher candidate should:
1. _____ Complete all coursework requisite of their specific degree pathway. (A maximum of 3
credit hours of coursework may be taken concurrently with the 12 credit hours of Full
Internship provided that it does not interfere with the internship experience and has been
approved by your specific major department);
2. _____ Take and pass the Oklahoma Professional Teaching Examination (OPTE) as part of
Oklahoma’s certification process;
3. _____ Complete an online application for certification with the Oklahoma State Department of
Education.

PRE I, PRE II, AND FULL INTERNSHIP
Applies to all majors
✓ Candidate cannot repeat a school district, or in Tulsa Public Schools, a school
site/building (does not apply to EPIC)
✓ Candidate cannot repeat a teacher, or a grade category (does not apply to
EPIC)
✓ Candidate must consider the school’s diversity level rating when choosing
each experience (does not apply to EPIC)
✓ Candidate cannot be placed in a school site/building where a relative is an
administrator, administrative staff, teacher, or in a school district with a relative
who is a school board member, administrator or staff.
✓ Candidate cannot be placed in a school site/building with their child or
another relative’s child.
✓ Candidate cannot be placed in a school site/building where she/he has been
employed in the past year.
Diversity Rating Rules (does not apply to EPIC)
➢ 1 of the 3 internships must be in a highly diverse (level 3)
➢ 1 of the 3 internships must be either a highly diverse (level 3) OR diverse
placement (level 2)

Early Childhood (Certified to teach grades PK-3rd/EC-3rd)
Pre-I – Must be placed in grades 1, 2, or 3
Pre-II – Must be placed in a PK (EC) class (4 year old program) *EPIC Interns will
be placed in a Kindergarten-3rd grade class, with a 10 day placement in PK class
Full Intern – Must be placed in Kindergarten for 8 weeks and grades 1, 2, or 3 for
8 weeks *EPIC Interns continue in placement from Pre-II
Elementary (Certified to teach grades 1st-8th)
Interns cannot repeat categories. Traditional Interns must have an intern experience in
each of these grade level categories. *EPIC interns select one category for Pre-I, and a
second category for both Pre-II & Full Internship. There are three grade level
categories:
Lower end grades: 1, 2, or 3 Middle grades: 4 or 5 Higher end grades: 6, 7, or 8
Secondary English, Math, Science, Social Studies (Certified to teach grades 6-12th)
Secondary Ed majors cannot select a school which include EC/K-5th grades or
consolidated K-8 schools. Traditional Interns must have an intern experience in each of
these grade level categories. One category will be repeated. *EPIC interns select one
category for Pre-I, and a second category for both Pre-II & Full Internship. There are
two grade level categories:
Lower end grades: 6, 7, 8, or 9 and Higher end grades: 10, 11, or 12
K-12 Certification Art, Band/Music, Foreign Language, Cherokee, Health & Physical
Ed., Special Ed. (certified to teach Kindergarten - 12th grade)
Pre I – Must choose an elementary school or secondary school**
Pre II – Must choose elementary or secondary (whatever not done in Pre I)**
Full Intern – Traditional Interns must have 8 weeks of elementary and 8 weeks of
secondary/ *EPIC Interns continue in placement from Pre-II
**Middle School/Jr. High School can be applied as either elementary or secondary
experience

Candidates will be required to complete clinical experiences/ student teaching in partner schools
reflecting diversity according to the guidelines below.

Pre-II Placement Packet Summary Reminders
➢ Updated background check required if your background check expires anytime
between Jan 2018 – May 2018. Interns can’t start without an updated background
check
➢ Check NSU Blackboard site for the course syllabus and the Pre-II requirements
➢ Professional dress is expected at all Pre-II Seminars and Full Internship events
➢ EPIC Interns start internship as soon as teachers report after the winter break
➢ Traditional Interns don’t start internship until after attending Pre-II Seminar #1
➢ The first assignment “Pre-II Meet & Greet” must be brought (paper copy) to Pre-II
Seminar #1
➢ Complete the online Full Internship Application. Pre-II Internship placement list will
be available through Google Docs. List will continue to grow until all placed. Some
won’t be placed until after the spring semester begins
➢ As soon as your placement is posted, notify your clinical faculty with your beginning
internship date
