Spring Creek Shark News October 18, 2020 School Start Time - 8:00 am School Dismissal Time - 3:05 pm Notes from the Principal Dear Shark Families, Did you know research shows that setting aside 15-20 minutes to read with your child will increase their ability to be a successful reader and learner? Reading aloud to and with your child daily builds a bonded connection with your child, models reading skills, and provides a platform to share and discover together. Many of you will think that your child is too old to read aloud to, but every child birth to young adult will enjoy the time spent with a parent or loved one reading together. I used to read to my boys well into high school - while it didn't happen every night, it happened often enough that they have fond memories of this time spent together sharing a good novel. Why is it important to read aloud to children? It instills a love of reading - you show your child that reading is important, pleasurable and valued. Knowledge gained and shared - while books are pleasurable, they also are informative. Brain development - from birth to age 3 are critical years in the development of language skills. Beyond that, reading increases background knowledge, vocabulary and comprehension.
