ANNE ARUNDEL COMMUNITY COLLEGE COURSES (C): Registration occurs 4x year. Classes usu-ally start months later and generally are 10 weeks. There is an administrative fee of $80.00 for seniors age 60 and over. For ages 55 to 59, the cost is $40.00 per class plus an $80.00 administrative fee.

CLASSES WITH A (V) ARE FACILITATED BY A VOLUNTEER & DO NOT REQUIRE REGISTRATION. THEY MAY BE JOINED AT ANY TIME DURING THE YEAR.

ANNEX EXERCISE EQUIPMENT ROOM is open most days, 8:30—3:50, with the exception of MF it is closed from 11—12 for class. Once a month it is also CLOSED for the Equipment training appointments from 2:30—4:00. Fitness room participants are reminded to talk to their physician before starting any exercise program. DO-NATIONS ARE GREATLY APPRECIATED TO HELP MAINTAIN/PURCHASE EQUIPMENT.

SKIN CANCER SCREENING

Thursday, March 12, 1:00-3:30. Anne Arundel Dermatology will provide complimentary skin

cancer screenings of sun exposed areas. The dermatologist will only be examining areas that are not typi-cally covered by clothing-face, neck, arms, hands, etc. (some of

the most common spots for skin cancer). From here, the dermatologist will determine if there are any areas of concern that would nee further treatment. Appointments are required, and are done on 15 minute increments. Call the center to schedule.

LUNCH BUNCH OUTING Monday, March 9, 11:00. Travel by County vans to Cracker Barrel in Linthicum. Sign up required. Back by 1:30.

TAKING TEA: TEATIME ACROSS THE CENTRUIES Tuesday, March 17, 1:00. Learn about the history of the tea drink and the tradi-tion of taking tea as an afternoon snack or even-ing meal. Learn about the differences between high tea, low tea, and afternoon tea. The similari-ties and differ-ences between various popu-lar tea types will be dis-cussed in addi-tion to an ex-ploration of the history of classic tea treats such as the English Muffin, the crumpet, the scone, and clotted cream. Presentation will be followed by the opportunity to taste hot tea and assorted tea cakes. Presented by Joyce White.

PUBLIC PC The center has several computers located at our annex & main room for seniors to use. Access the in-ternet, play games or check e-mail. Three at the center & four at the ANNEX

State Health Insurance Program (S.H.I.P.) A trained volunteer is available each month to address questions and con-cerns regarding Medicare, Supplemental Health Insurance, Long Term Care Insurance, Medical Claims and Pharmacy Assistance. Appointment required & held at Annex. Call 410.222.4257 for an appt. Korean speaking counselor available.

I & A Information and Assistance Specialist from the Department of Aging & Disabilities, is availa-ble on Thursday, March 26th to assist seniors in defining needs, locating and filing for appropriate services and programs. Please call English Harper @410.222.0230 for more information or an ap-pointment to meet with him.

Legal Counsel , by appointment only. Attorney Maria McKenna will meet with seniors for legal counsel and brief questions. Friday, March 20th 10-12. If you can’t make your appt., please notify us. There is usually a wait list for this service.

Corporal MEGAN OTT Police liaison with Anne Arundel County Police for the senior community. Corporal Ott can help with neighborhood issues, complaints, concerns, scams, etc. Contact her @ 410.222.2447.

Anne Arundel County Office of Transportation Provides van transportation for sen-iors 65 years of age and older to senior centers, nutrition sites and medical appointments. Advanced notice re-quired. Call 410.222.0225 for more information.

Senior Center Plus An activity program of-fered by the Dept. of Aging and Disabilities that addresses the functional limitations and nutritional needs of the frail elderly. LUNCH CAFE

Lunch is served at 11:30 daily. Lunch is a nutri-tionally balanced meal, including milk, tea and coffee. The cost of the meal is $4.25. Seniors are asked to contribute as much as they can. Res-ervations MUST be made in person, however cancellations may be called in. Nutrition hours are 9:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m., Monday—Friday. Cancellations should be made as soon as possible. The monthly menu may be found on page 6 of this

newsletter. Sodas, bottled water & snacks are available through the office. Call 410.222.6223 for information (9-1).

Anne Arundel County Senior Center’s Inclement Weather Policy

Announcements regarding AACO Govern-ment are made on local TV and radio sta-tions.

When AACO Government offices are closed due to inclement weather, Senior Activity Centers will be closed.

When County schools are closed due to weather, senior centers will also be closed and all activities will be can-celled.

If the schools open two hours late, the center will open at 10:00 a.m. Transpor-tation (to the centers) and lunch are can-celled. Classes with start times prior to 10:00 will be cancelled. Classes that begin at 10:00 or later will be held as scheduled.

In the event the AACO Public Schools close early for inclement weather, lunch will be served and the center will close at 1pm. Classes that begin at 1:00 and thereafter will be cancelled. Vans will depart the center early.

Regularly scheduled AACO Public School closures DO NOT affect Senior Centers. IF there is inclement weather and the AACO Public Schools have a regularly scheduled closure, the AACO Department of Aging & Disabilities will make a determination about Senior Cen-ter closures, Transportation and Nutri-tion based on weather conditions and safety.
