Calendar of EventsWelcome to the exciting - rather packed - SpringSeason at The Richard Whiteley Theatre. This yearalso marks the Quincentenary of Giggleswick School.

At the Edinburgh Festival last summer I sawTranslunar Paradise by Theatre Ad Infinitum whichsold out every day, and rightly so…it is a wonderfuland touching piece of theatre expertly performed bythe company – if you don’t believe me, read the reviews! I am delightedto welcome this show in double bill with Caroline Horton’s beautifulYou’re Not Like The Other Girls Chrissy. Fringe First award winners, ThePaper Birds Theatre Company return to Giggleswick with their new showThirsty; a high energy, visually impressive and emotionally engaging lookat our nation’s love affair with alcohol.

I want to ensure our programme engages and inspires our youngeraudiences too… I’m sure you won’t have had enough snow by now(I’m writing this before Christmas...) so come and see it snow insideand have fantastic fun with Snow Show, or be transported anddelighted by folklore storyteller, Lawrence Speck with Once Upon aTime Up The Road. Our Sunday family films, Puss in Boots and Alvinand the Chipmunks 3 were voted for by our younger audience memberslast season.

We are delighted to welcome Tom Figgins, OG, back from London for anacoustic evening joined, among others, by singer songwriter Sam Beeton.I already have my tickets for the Hallé Orchestra, my tissues ready forthe film War Horse... oh and PS, watch out for the secret symbols...Helen Lindley, Artistic Director

Introduction

Translunar Paradise takesyou on a journey of life, death and enduring love. After his wife passes away,William escapes to aparadise of fantasy and pastmemories, a place far fromthe reality of his grief.Returning from beyond thegrave, Rose revisits herwidowed companion toperform one last act of love:to help him let go.

Using a live accordionaccompaniment, thisexquisite piece of mask andmovement theatre was a

multi-award winning, critically acclaimed sellout atthe Edinburgh FestivalFringe 2011. Theatre AdInfinitum is an award-winning internationalensemble, developing newand original theatre for amulti-cultural audience.Written and directed byGeorge Mann.

‘An extraordinaryperformance; TranslunarParadise so moved mebecause of its uniquelydevastating method, prompting thoughts aboutbereavement using onlygesture, never cheapeningits subject by attempting todescribe the indescribable’Observer

‘Extraordinarily poignant…beautifully performed….packs a real emotionalpunch.’ The Guardian

An eccentric, acutelymyopic French woman’stale of love in WW2.

January 1945. Paris hasbeen liberated. Christiane, waits at Gare Du Nord for aticket to England to bereunited with her fiancé.Whilst she waits, thisgloriously irrepressiblemademoiselle recounts thestory of her love affair withCyril, a tongue-tied Englishteacher from Staffordshire. From a chance encounter at

Cheadle Tennis Club, theirstory takes us tocosmopolitan 1930s Parisbefore their inevitableseparation by war. Aseparation which she hopestoday will finally come to anend. A fond, comical andultimately poignant portraitof one woman's experienceof love and war.
