Spring Has Finally Sprung So Get Your Game Ready It sure has been a long time coming, but spring weather is finally arriving (at least for this week)! Golfers in colder regions ideally like to start playing and working on their games in March so that when April rolls around it doesn’t feel like they’re learning how to play golf for the first time. Here are a few tips to help you jumpstart your game for the 2018 season: 1. Check your equipment: Do you need new grips? Are your shafts adequate for your swing speed? Are you playing with the right loft in your driver to maximize distance? Do you have the right set makeup to benefit your game (wedges, hybrids, fairway woods, etc.)? These are questions that you’ll want to answer before going to work on your game. 2. Practice first with short swings then full swings: Start with putting to establish rhythm and tempo. Chipping and pitching also require a lot of feel and tempo and therefore are another great place to start practicing. Think of these shots as a miniature full swing, which will allow you to make a smoother transition to a correct full swing. Once you move to the full swing, make sure your grip, pos- ture and setup are correct. I like to think of these three areas as the engine that starts the golf swing. Without the grip, posture and setup being correct, it be- comes almost impossible to swing the club correctly and to get consistent re- sults. 3. Set realistic expectations for the course: Remember that those first few rounds of the year will be a little rusty; therefore, do not get frustrated on the golf course when your scores are not where you would like them to be. While on the course, I suggest you take notes on what you think you need to practice so that when you return to the range you can work on the things that will improve your game most. Remember also to set aside some practice time for all aspects of your game. I like my students to spend about 25 per- cent of their time on the range and 75 per- cent of their time practicing short game (putting, chipping, pitching and bunker shots). 4. Get some help: I would strongly sug- gest that everyone at least consider taking some lessons or attending a golf school or clinic to be certain that you are starting the year off with the correct fundamentals. This also will allow you to have more fo- cused practice sessions given that you will know what you need to work on, and that will benefit your overall game. I hope these tips will get your golf sea- son started with success and most impor- tantly some fun.

Here are a few tips to help you jumpstart your game for the 2018 season:

Golf Humor A multimillionaire bachelor goes to his club to play golf with two friends. Not knowing who would be joining them, they walk to the 1st tee. As they finish teeing off, a tall, beauti-ful, raven-haired woman asks if she can join them. Although the bachelor thinks this is going to slow down their play, he agrees. The woman tees up a ball and, without a practice swing, smacks it straight down the middle. This goes on all day and she finishes even par for the round, beating all the men. They invite her back the next week. They have a great time, and she shoots the same score. The bachelor thinks to himself, "This is the girl of my dreams!" So he asks her out on a date. They go out, find they have much in common, and have a great evening.

They make another golf date, during which she shoots two-under and gives a clinic in shotmaking. The millionaire is now convinced that they are meant to be together. He in-vites her back to his apartment, where they talk for hours. Everything is pro-gressing smoothly, so he invites her to his bedroom. Their passions run riot, but she doesn't let things go too far and he drives her home. This pattern continues for a month: Great golf, great dates, but nights of abbreviated passion. The bachelor can't take it any more. "I know the time we spent on the golf course and in my apartment is wonder-ful. And even though we haven't been fully intimate, I know that I love you, you love me, and that you are the girl I want to marry!" "Darling," she says, "I have some-thing to tell you. I can not hide it any-more. I am a man!"

His mouth drops open, his face turns red, he begins to shake. She's con-vinced he's going to have a heart attack, or worse, when finally, in a blind rage, he shouts, "And all this time you've been playing from the red tees?"

In Memorium Fellow ASGA-DC Golfers, sad to report that Joseph Whitaker died in December.

ASGA-DC Communications Share your content! Did you take some awesome pictures at an event? Share them by sending to BJ Barger, [email protected]. Our website is www.singlesgolfdc.com. Our social and golf schedule are published on the website and updated frequently. Check the list below for National websites. Have you “friended” ASGA-DC on Face-book yet? It’s the best way to get the latest news, recaps and pictures from ASGA-DC events. You can also add your pictures from our events. The Facebook name is SinglesGolf As-gadc. or you can go to https://www.facebook.com/singlesgolf.asgadc.5 If you friend us you can see all our posts plus those of other members. If you’d pre-fer to not share everything, you can change your Facebook privacy setting by going to Settings, Privacy, then answer the question, “who can see my posts?” by changing it to My Friends on Facebook. That way, your posts won’t be seen by all. Like us, friend us, find out what’s hap-pening with ASGA-DC! Since having to check back to the web-site for schedule updates and pairings updates is inconvenient, we also have a Yahoo listserve. Announcements on up-coming social and golf events, as well as

reminders and updates to these events, are sent out to subscribers to the listserve. A couple of days before a golf event, the pairings and tee times are also sent out. To subscribe, send an email to: ASGA-DC-Chapter-subscribe@ yahoogroups.com. Be sure to include your name in the subject of the note and do not include anything else in the body of the note.

NOTE: ASGA DOES NOT CONDUCT BACKGROUND CHECKS ON APPLICANTS FOR MEMBERSHIP OR MEMBERS OF THE ASSOCIATION. Golf can be a dangerous sport. Accidents can

occur by you or another party striking a golf ball, by a golf cart turning over, or simply falling down steps. PLEASE TAKE ADEQUATE PRECAUTION when playing in ASGA events.

Chapters and individuals running golf tournaments are not professionals but are volunteers, and therefore, you must assume additional responsibility for your own safety.

Please abide by the safety rules posted inside your golf cart, at the golf course, as well as the official website of the United States Golf Association (www.USGA.org). If you

have a safety concern, please bring it to the attention of the person(s) running an event, your chapter president or golf course management personnel.
