Yoko Takahashi – Level 5
When a person comes to the US for the first time, preparation of the journey is very
important, especially if that person comes from a country which has a very different culture from the
US. For example, how well is the security maintained in the area? or what is the weather like?
Consequently, it’s better to know the differences between your city and the US or it’s easy to be in
an inconvenient situation.
First, I want to tell that person not to bring too much cash because you can use credit cards
in most places. Furthermore, there is a possibility of having your pocket picked. However, if you have
a credit card instead of cash, you don’t need to worry about losing your cash all the time.
In addition, it is good to know that the US is a huge land. Consequently, if you want to
travel anywhere in the US, you need plenty of the time. The main facilities of travel are airplane and
car. However, if you travel with a lot of baggage, it might be better to drive because you don’t want
to bring them place to place. Furthermore when you take a plane, you have to pay an expensive fee
for your baggage.
Finally, you need to speak English. Whether you stay in the US a short or a long time,
having conversations with the local people is fun and you can get some new information easily. That
might bring you some special experience. In addition, when you have to replan or when you are in
an emergency situation speaking English is very helpful. Because even if you bring a translator, there
is a possibility to lose your translator in that situation.
In conclusion, the US is a huge country. You can see various local cultures and so many
wonderful sites. If you know those three things beforehand, bring much money is not good, the
traffic and geography of the US, and trying to speak English, you can enjoy staying the US.
