In a continued effort to deepen interaction with administration, board members recently attended a K-12 superintendent’s meeting. Progress is not achieved alone; we celebrate the commitment and determination invested by many great companies and individuals to achieve the CMMA mission. We are a vibrant and growing mix of new and sustaining members. We are a meaningful assembly of manufacturers, suppliers, professional services, and supporters. We make a difference! CMMA. Hello CMMA members and friends!

We’ve made it through yet another Minnesota winter together. The season’s conditions didn’t slow our momentum as we worked and learned together at CMMA meetings; we’re a proven and time tested hearty bunch!

CMMA’s volunteer board of directors has been hard at work planning our priorities and deliverables. We continue to focus on three foundational goals: educating members, preparing a workforce, and legislative advocacy.

We plan to increase manufacturing membership and meeting attendance. CMMA will exhibit at two events in May - Central McGowan Manufacturing 4.0 and Granite Stakeholder Day – fine opportunities to move our objectives forward.

We’ll continue to impact the manufacturing workforce via career promotion and skill development. Thanks to all who participated in the delivery of a successful EPIC event, where 2,450 high school students were enlightened about manufacturing careers; the event is planned to be even better next year! We continue to support grant requests from many high school robotics and STEM programs. The board works responsibly to manage CMMA’s resources for maximum impact and outcomes. In a continued effort to deepen interaction with administration, board members recently attended a K-12 superintendent’s meeting. CMMA will continue to develop partnerships with elected officials to advocate for the manufacturing community in central Minnesota.

A new and informative CMMA Annual Report is in the works. This exciting method of communication will clearly reflect our efforts, outcomes and path for the future.

FeatureStang Precision, Inc is a full service injection molding company located in Paynesville, MN offering custom plastic injection molding, assembly, machining, thermoforming, and packaging solutions.

Stang Precision was founded in 1979 by Bruce Stang. In the early 1980’s the company consisted of a handful of employees focusing on equipment repair and tool and die making. In 1985 the company expanded into injection molding which has since become its primary focus. Through its growth Stang Precision has remained completely family owned and operated and currently employs 50 people between its molding, thermoforming, machining, and packaging divisions. They are ISO 9001 certified with a strong track record of excellent quality and customer service.

Their injection molding division offers both thermoplastic and liquid silicone rubber capabilities across numerous materials. Press sizes range from 38 tons to 300 tons and include single, two and three shot capabilities. They produce parts ranging from simple single-shot components to highly complex multi-shot/multi material components across a wide range of industries. They also have capabilities in molding

both flavor and scent infused resins. The molding facility runs 24/7 operation with lights-out production capability.

Stang Precision also offers high volume thermoforming of consumer packaging blisters as well as pad printing, assembly, and packaging solutions. Therefore in some instances they are able to produce the molded parts and blister packages on site, as well as perform the decorative printing, assembly, and kitting necessary; giving the customer a truly one-stop-shop solution.

In early 2019 Stang Precision completed construction of a new facility in their Paynesville location which now contains their main injection molding production, machine shop, and offices. While the plant was meticulously designed to maximize production efficiency, great measures were also taken to create a pleasant work environment for the staff.

“We are incredibly fortunate to have a very skilled and talented group of employees and wanted to provide a nice working environment for staff to continue to flourish”, explained Chad Stang. “We are excited for the future.”

E.P.I.C. exploring potential interests and careersOn February 22, 2019, more than 2,450 students from 23 area schools were exposed to local careers and employers at the first annual E.P.I.C. event, held at St. Cloud Technical and Community College (CMMA was a sponsor).

2019 EPIC focused around six industry clusters, including a cluster called: Engineering, Manufacturing and Technology. Kudos to three CMMA members for their leadership in planning interactive activities and a display of modern technology for the Manufacturing Cluster: Engel Metallurgical, Park Industries, and Rotochopper. Students were exposed to virtual welding, MIG welding, laser cutting, 3D printing, and more.

Kudos to McNeilus Steel for donating the steel and cutting time to create the EPIC cutouts and base. Safety glasses were donated by Fastenal, Rotochopper, and construction industry folks. The planning committee anticipates that EPIC will become an annual event that contributes to strengthened education and industry partnerships all year long.
