Bike Path and Trails Maintenance PolicyMother Nature will be allowed to take her own course of action with respect to out park district bike paths and trails, located at Community Park, Ahlstrand Park, Harbor Park East-West, Nautilus Park and Ranger Park. In Illinois there is no legal duty to clear paths or trails. But if an agency voluntarily takes on the job, liability may be imposed if it is not done properly.

The Park District Risk Management Agency (PDRMA) recommends that we limit path maintenance to a thorough season-ending inspection and documentation of irregularities, that we fix any hazards and that we post signs conveying the message that users of the paths and trails do so at their own risk.
