    POLICIES AND PROCEDURES

    1. Due to the high demand for programs and to be fair to all

    Scituate Residents, registration for Scituate Residents will

    begin March 6, 2010, 8:00 A.M. to 10:00 A.M. inScituate Recreations Multi-Purpose Room at

    Scituate High School.Should you not be able to registerthat day, a neighbor, friend or family member may register for

    you.

    2. PLEASE NOTE: YOU MAY REGISTER NO MORE THAN

    TWO FAMILIES, INCLUDING YOUR OWN. Your

    registration will not be processed until we receive full

    payment and a COMPLETED registration form. Mail- in

    registration will be accepted starting March 10, 2010. Check or

    money order should be made payable to Town of Scituate.

    Include a registration form with your check.

    3. The Recreation Department reserves the right to consolidate,

    postpone or cancel a program/trip for any reasonable cause. We

    otherwise maintain a NO -REFUND policy.

    4. All fees are payable in advance to Town of Scituate. A person is

    registered only when a check or cash and a registration form is

    received in the Recreation Office.

    5. No confirmations are sent. Please note all information on

    your calendar. You may call us to confirm your mail-in ordrop-off registrations.

    6. A minimum deposit of half of total amount is due at the time

    of registration and any outstanding balance must be paid

    before the program begins. If this is a problem, please call and

    make an appointment to work out a payment plan.

    7. Need financial assistancejust ask!

    8. Proper behavior in Recreation programs is expected at all times.

    If improper behavior cannot be corrected after the first

    occurrence, then parents will be notified that the child will have tobe excused from further Recreation programs.

    9. Registration for non-residents will begin March 15, 2010.

    Out of town people may register for programs and be allowed to

    participate subject to space availability and will be charged an

    additional $5.00 registration fee.

    10. The Town of Scituate Recreation Department does not provide

    accident or hospitalization insurance for any program

    participants. Therefore, all participants are strongly advised to

    have adequate personal coverage. Participation in all department

    programs shall be at the registrants own risk.

    ALL SAILING PROGRAMS MEET RAIN OR SHINE

    Classes meet at the Mass Humane Boat House on Edward Foster Road located

    in the Marine Park. Participants must be able to swim 100 yards in a safe and

    competent manner. All participants are expected to wear sneakers &Flotation

    Devices (C.G. approved life jacket). Classes run Monday through Thursdays

    (we will have one indoor rainy-day class; if it rains for more than one day

    we will hold a makeup class on Fridaycall the Recreation Department for

    more information on rainy days.

    Due to the high demand of this program we are limiting this to one session

    week per child. Should you be interested in taking additional weeks we will

    be accepting a waiting list on a first come first serve basis. After May 3rd if

    classes have not filled we will be calling off the list.Our Goal: to provide as many children the opportunity to experience the joy

    of sailing!

    MERCURYS Fee $125.00We offer 12 hours of lessons over one week on our renovated 15-foot Cape Cod

    Mercury Keels. These are very stable, hearty sailboats. They are great for the

    beginner/intermediate sailor. Experience is not required, although classes will

    be formatted to the experience of each sailor. This class is for participants

    ages 9 adults.

    The sailing area for the Mercurys is limited to inside the breakwater.

    Take Your Parents Sailing Night - Fee $25.00

    Are you registered for a mercury class and want to show off to your parents/

    guardian what you have learned? Ask about our new Take YourParents

    Sailing Night. You may sign up for either a Tuesday or Thursday night with

    your parent and go out sailing in one of the mercurys with an instructor. Fee

    for both parent and child is $25.00 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.Must be

    registered in a Mercury Sailing class to participate.

    420s - $300

    420 classes are offered in two week sessions throughout the summer to sailors

    ages 12 18. This course is designed for both beginner and intermediate 420

    sailors. Beginning students are introduced to wind awareness, sailingterminology, points of sail, tacking, and gybing. Intermediate students will

    cover weather, sail trim, hull trim, and equipment maintenance. This course is

    designed to teach students with little or no experience to students who are

    proficient in all points covered in the 420-beginner course.

    AFTER CLASS 420 SAILING

    Are you serious about your 420 sailing? Ask us about additional

    opportunities to fine-tune your skills in this new after-class sailing.

    You must have some 420 experience and/or registered for a 420 class.

    Based on the response we will be organizing classes.

    Do you sail? Are you looking to race; learn to cruisethis is the program to

    recreation office.

    The Scituate Recreation Department, in cooperation with Constantine

    Constantinides, will hold an instructional soccer clinic for children ages 5

    & 6 years old. (1950.401)

    Children born from 9/2/03- 5/1/2005are eligibleThis clinic will be under the direction of Mr. C and will be held on

    Saturdays from May 1, 2010 - June 12, 2010Location: Jenkins School

    Parents participation as coaches is essential to the program.

    The cost of the clinic is $20 per child (all funds collected are for non-

    personel expenses. Program is run 100% by volunteers)

    ALL-STARS SOCCER:Location: Jenkins School field. Participants will be taught thefundamentals of soccer through basic drills and practice. Skills will be

    developed on an individual basis andathletes will be challenged to

    improve on a weekly basis. A non-competitive game will be played every

    week. (This program will provide facilitative assistance for children with

    special needs. Students who enjoy a non-competitive sports activity are

    PRE-SCHOOL PROGRAMSLITTLE PEOPLE: The Little People program has been offered for

    twenty successful years as an opportunity for two and three year old

    children, along with a parent or guardian, to share in music, arts and

    crafts, games and social activities as well as new friendships. Younger

    Multi-Purpose Room. Take advantage of this wonderful opportunity to

    spend time with your toddler as he/she experiences and explores

    playtime. Through a variety of different play equipment such as balls,tunnels, slides and small climbing structures; your toddler will enhance

    his/her gross motor skills while also building interaction skills. Group

    story time and music will also be included and will be beneficial in your

    childs ability to express him/herself through language and social skills.

    Different themes will be offered such as flowers, teddy bears, hearts,

    etcthat will also enrich your toddlers playtime experience. The class

    Purpose Room. Looking for something fun to do with your pre-school

    child and siblings? Big Joe at Scituate Recreation is where to headhe

    has a collection that includes classic stories, modern favorites, and

    original works, Big Joe puts on a show that celebrates childrens

    literature and helps to promote reading. The tales he tells are filled with

    humor, creativity, and excitement, and they capture the imagination of his

    young listeners. His performances are perfectly suited for everyone from

    preschoolers to adults. Big Joe will put on an amazing show!

    APRIL VACATION WEEK SPECIALS!!

    BABYSITTING COURSE: Scituate Recreations Little People

    Room. This one day, three-hour course is designed to assist 5th 7th

    graders in being babysitters and knowing the dos and donts of being

    home alone. The course will cover information on child development,

    feeding, diapering and playing with babies/younger children, basic first

    aid, fire safety and prevention, and the overall responsibilities of

    babysitting. There will also be a question and answer session with a

    Scituate Police Officer and Firefighter. Instructor: Kimberley Cleary,

    STAR WARS: JEDI TRAINING WORKSHOP: Scituate

    Recreations Multi-Purpose Room. Grasdes K - 5. Are you a

    Youngling who is interested in becoming a Jedi

    student in training? Join the team from Event-FULL!

    LLC and participate in several hours that have

    everything to do with STAR WARS!! Some

    activities may include: designing and making your

    own recycled Droid, Making a Training Light saber

    and learning what it is to be a Jedi Knight. Dont

    worry if you have taken this program before...different Jedi training

    techniques will be introduced. May the force be with you.... Class is

    AMERICAN GIRL DOLL CREATE & PLAY: THEME - HOME

    OFFICE: Scituate Recreations Multi-purpose Room. Your doll

    joins the work world while working from her home! Join the team from

    Event-FULL! LCC and design and create a desk, computer and other

    work-related accessories for your American Girl Doll. Please send

    your child with a peanut free snack and drink. Workshop is limited to 30

    participants. This class is for children in grades K-5. Workshop is limited

    Recreation Departments Little People Room. A one-hour a weekprogram that includes an introduction to the guitar and a comprehensive study

    of guitar fundamentals, tuning and stringing the guitar and many exciting,

    enjoyable learning techniques. Instructor: Matt Browne has for 17 years been a

    favorite for guitar instruction in Scituate.

    CO-ED FUNDAMENTALS OF BASKETBALL:Scituate High

    School Large Gym. This five-week program intends specifically to

    teach the fundamentals of basketball and full court play. If you

    want to become a player, and are willing to work hard and have

    great listening skills then this clinic is for you. Bring your own

    ball! Open to grades 6 through 11 (students will be divided in to age

    Channel 9 Childrens Chef, joins us this spring for a 4 week program.Growing gourmets will have the opportunity to cook and

    have fun in the kitchen. They will be introduced to nutrition, safety,

    new foods, kitchen math, cooking vocabulary, techniques, utensils,

    and the basics of etiquette! Fee: $100.00

    Track. Thisprogram is for Children ages 7 through children in grade

    8 (Age to 7 to train and ages 8 and up to compete) who have been

    identified with a learning disability or special needs. We also, welcome

    Peer Role Models to act as unified partners where peer role models

    would be welcomed in the program to partner with a special needs

    child (there is a division in the Olympics for unified partners). Weeklyinstructional track program to include training in 50m, 100m and

    Turbo Javelin. Program is designed to prepare runners for Special

    Olympic competition. All you need is sneakers, water bottle and a

    desire to run and have fun. Parent Participation is welcome!

    Track program for high school and adults. They meet weekly

    The peanuts Gang examine their feeling and friendships in this

    musical. This program is for the serious thespian. Program will

    be limited to 15. 11 Speaking Roles and 4 Chorus Members.

    Directed by Mass-Certified teacher, Miss Kathy Boluch.

    GLEE- GRADES 6-8

    If you dream of singing and dancing like the cast of Glee this is the

    show for you. In this class Miss Kathy Boluch will direct three great

    song and dance numbers. Well perform these three numbers onstage

    during our Spring production of Youre a Good Man Charlie Brown.

    Directed by Mass-Certified teacher, Miss Kathy Boluch. We welcome

    12 experienced dancers and singers. Fee: $100.00

    Final Performance on May 21, 2010 at 7:00 p.m.

    SPORT OF FENCING: The Recreations Multi-Purpose Room at

    Scituate High School. This instructional course will be offered to boys

    and girls, ages 8 and up. This course is for any person who wants to learn,

    practice, and improve all aspects of the sport. Footwork, blade work, and

    booting skills will be taught. Instructor: Jim Mullarkey. Fee $65.00

    program for children with special needs. This therapeuticmethod of Yoga was developed by the world renowned

    Sonia Sumar over 30 years ago, and has grown to interna-

    tional acclaim. This style of yoga is gentle, safe, and re-

    quires no special equipment. By practicing this style of

    yoga, students realize benefits which include mindfulness, concentra-

    tion, physical ease, emotional balance, and ultimately peace of mind and

    happiness. Students will participate in five essential yoga practices:

    ORGANIC VEGETABLE, FLOWER AND HERB GARDENING:Teak Sherman Park on Chief Justice Cushing Highway (Straight across

    from St. Lukes Church South on Route 3A). Must park in Teak Sherman

    Parking area. Learn by working in the garden: sowing seeds, starting

    seedlings and discussing garden plans. All levels of green thumbs are

    welcome. Each participant will be able to take plant and plan home for his orher garden, as well as be a part of the community work at the farm pantry. The

    farm pantry garden provides food for the Scituate Food Pantry. One class will

    be a field trip to the Holly Hill Farm (in Cohasset and your families are

    welcome). We will end the program with a salad party in May. (Classes will
