    Additionally,Americanvotersdonotvotedirectlyforthepresidentialcandidateoftheirchoice.Instead,registeredvoterselecttheElectoralCollegetoelectthepresident,aprocesswhichdiscouragesAmericanstoparticipateinvotingwhenthepopularvotedoesnotcorrelatetotheElectoralCollegeresults.Withtheresolutiontomakevotingmandatorytoallqualifiedcitizens,moreAmericansarerepresentedintheresultsofthepopularvoteandnotjusttheAmericanswhoexercisetheirrighttovoteateveryelection.Indoingso,supportersforacompulsoryvotingstatethattherepresentationofAmericanswillbefurthercoordinatedwiththeElectoralCollege,eliminatingthechanceofelectinganunpopularpresidentandactuallyincreasingtheinterestofAmericansinvoting.Nevertheless,criticsoftheresolutionarguethatbecauseAmericansbelievethatvotingisarightmorethanaduty,anenactmentofacompulsoryvotingsystemwouldtakeawayanessentialfreedomofacitizen.ManyAmericansareapathetictoexercisingtheirrighttovote,astheymaynotbeinterestedinpolitics.Theirlackofvoting
