SincetheendofWorldWarII,theUnitedStateshasenjoyeditsstatusasaworldsuperpower,and,sincetheendoftheColdWar,itsthroneastheworldhegemon.However,newchallengesthreatentoremovetheU.S.fromitsplaceastheworldssolesuperpower.Americasfiscalpolicyoverthepastdecadehasresultedinanunprecedenteddeficitthatnowtotalsmorethan80%ofitsGDP.Thedollarfacestheprospectoflosingitsstatusastheworldsreservecurrency,aneventualitythatcouldcrippletheourabilitytofinanceourgovernmentthroughdebt.Twonearlydecade-longwarshavestretchedtheUnitedStatesmilitaryandfiscalresourcesthin,andtheresurgenceofdiplomaticallybelligerentroguestates
