Our World from My WindowWestfield School Junior House hosts young German visitors
In February, eight nine and ten year olds from Germany and their teachers becamepart of the Westfield School community as part of their European Commissionproject, entitled ‘Our World from my Window’. This project involves three schools,Westfield, Armin-Maiwald-Schule from Monheim am Rhein in Germany, andL’Ermitage International Ecole de France from Maisons-Laffitte, just south of Paris, working together on the theme of the cross-curricular project in art, music, dance, history, geography, ICT and language lessons.
Our visitors experienced the beautiful Northumbrian coastline, albeit in bitingwinds, and visited Tynemouth with our Lower Three girls. They also joined in artand IT lessons in school, as well as being taken to many other splendid local sightsover the weekend by their host families, including Bamburgh, Seahouses and theChinese New Year festivities in Newcastle.
Some of the children from Germany were paying a return visit following Westfield’svisit to Monheim in November 2012, so a few tears were shed on parting. Somemay get the chance to meet again when Westfield and Armin-Maiwald-Schule visitL’Ermitage School in France in June.
