President’s Report

What a great night of fellowship and in-teraction with the members of the Lan-tern club followed by an informative presentation from the R.I.D.B.C. ladies. It was heart warming to be able to pre-sent the $8000 cheque on behalf of Rota-ry & Lantern Clubs. Another truly suc-cessful joint project which will assist the children immensely.

The call for volunteers for the parking & BBQ roster on 25th November is out and I ask you to give deep thought to your availability – the response so far (Wed @ noon) is very disheartening. We are com-mitted to this event and failure could wipe out all the good Rotary presence/ work we have created.

On a brighter note, don’t forget Christmas at the Erickson’s – our last meeting for the year – on the 18th December. Cost will be $20.00 for a magnificent feast catered by Suzanne & Paul. BYOG

Our first meeting for 2018 will be a Social event at the Bowler Estate. More details soon but there will be Tennis, Swimming, Pool/Billiards so find your shorts, short skirts, budgie smugglers & bikinis (Bill’s request). Tonight is our AGM where final 2016/17 reports will be formally presented and proposed for acceptance, followed by the elections for the 2018- 2019 Board for Margaret Bell’s Presidential year.

SENIORS CHRISTMAS LUNCHEON

When and Where: Monday 11th December 11.30 – 1.30pm at Springwood Baptist Church Macquarie Rd Springwood.

Strategy and Guests : Similar format to last year. Our Rotary Club is working with the Winmalee Neighbour-hood Centre to splash out a nice Christmas luncheon for the Seniors in our local community. So all seniors are invited (even us !!) to come along to the FREE Luncheon. If you have friends and acquaintances who would enjoy such a function, by all means invite them and to come along. RSVP to WINMALEE NEIGHBOUR-HOOD CENTRE as soon as possible Ph: 4754 4050. Early notification will assist us with catering numbers.

Rotary’s Role in this function:

We will be working with the Neighbourhood Centre to complete the following:

Kitchen : food preparation and cooking, washing up and clearing away at the end of the function. Can we have volunteers for the washing up roster please.

Hall and Covered patio: There will be 15 rectangular tables and chairs for at least 110. Table service and hosts to our guests for the function. Individual people are being approached to be hosts at the tables.

Clearing away at the end of the function- Sweeping floors, packing away tables and chairs. Robyn Ingram would like volunteers, please – task would commence after 12.45pm. NB: We have a Santa and a kind elf has made small gifts of Christmas cakes for each guest, so that side of things is organized. We need a volunteer for the front stage hall decorating (similar to last year) . It would be a nice thing to have some large print Christmas Carols verses printed for each table for a sing along . Do I have a vol-unteer for this task? Still aiming to arrange some choral songsters - otherwise we will have have recorded music. If you would like to assist on the day please email Robin Ingram - [email protected]

Youth Exchange Program (YEP) Bronwyn has requested that those interested in hosting an exchange student from July 2018 to let her know ASAP. There will a training session in the Blue Mountains for those interested.

The Club’s Project Goal for 2017-18 is the purchase, and instal-lation at Buttenshaw Park of a merry-go-round for wheel chair bound children. The photo above shows the merry-go-round, and the photo to the right shows the approximate location of its installation in the playground on the highway side of the park. This will be a great addition and contribution to the community, and a goal for President Norm Kitto for this year.

Christmas Late Night Shopping in Springwood - This will be happening on Thursday, 14th December. Lots of fun and activities, Santa and Mrs Claus, and a gift wrapping service offered by our Club. This can be a great way to project Rotary and your Club in the Community and promote the Rotary Brand. There are marketing materials also available on the main site to use in promoting the opportuni-ties and/or any specific requirements you may have.

ROTARY DISTRICT 9685 CONFERENCE 10-11 March 2018

PAST RI PRESIDENT JOHN GERM IS ATTENDING OUR 2018 DISTRICT CONFERENCE AS THE RI

PRESIDENT'S SPECIAL REPRESENTATIVE John F. Germ, a member of the Rotary Club of Chattanoo-ga, Tennessee, USA, and chair of the International Polio-Plus Committee, was Rotary International President of RI in 2016-17. For Rotary to thrive, Germ says, members must face current and future challenges and opportunities with "passion, enthusiasm, perseverance, and above all, integrity." "I envision Rotary boldly and creatively engag-ing the success of polio eradication, membership and iden-tity issues, strengthening clubs, work with youth – our fu-ture lifeblood, and the creation of critical, strategic partner-ships," says Germ. Germ says no one should ever have to ask, "What is Rotary?" "We will enhance Rotary's public image by successfully and enthusiastically marketing who we are, what amazing things we are doing, and incredibly, have done locally and globally," says Germ. With the glob-al economy still unpredictable, Germ says Rotary must make participation affordable and "also be unfailingly dili-gent in efforts to ensure we spend every dollar effectively and efficiently," he says.
