CONVERSATIONS WITH THE CATHOLIC CHURCH 96454 £8.00In December 2007, delegates representing The Catholic Church and The Salvation Army met at the Army’s Sunbury Court Conference Centre in the UK for the first in a series of five meetings for informal conversations. The decision to embark on these conversations was a natural consequence of the friendly and more frequent contacts between the Holy See and The Salvation Army and the visits of international Salvation Army leaders to Rome. During the conversations papers were delivered which presented the Catholic and Salvationist perspective on a number of subjects, including Nature of the Church, Divine Revelation, Social Justice, Salvation, Sanctification and Theology and Forms of Mission. The discussions evidenced a search for the wholeness of the truth that is represented and expressed by complementary and differing understandings, and consensus was reached for continuing fellowship, dialogue and cooperation.

Finally, we follow the moving story of how a deep and steadfast faith in God and the wonderful support of family and friends carried Gisèle through a very difficult period as she sought to come to terms with John’s diagnosis of dementia and his subsequent promotion to Glory. Through it all we sense a woman determined by God’s help to do her best for whoever was in her care, be it her husband, her family, her church family or the global Salvation Army. Written in a light yet thoughtful style, A Girl with a Mind of Her Own also contains a foreword by General John Larsson (Retired) and many previously unseen photographs from Gisèle’s personal collection.
