Spycat and the Paper Chase (English)

Spycat hunts down Captain Chico, whose latest scheme involves robbing the world of every paper product there is. The pursuit takes Spycat to colourful Tokyo, then aboard Captain Chico’s airship for a climactic showdown between cat and dog.

Espigato da caza al Capitán Chico, quien roba al mundo todo producto de papel que existe. La persecución lleva a Espigato a una colorida Tokio, luego a bordo del zepelín del Capitán Chico, en donde tienen un enfrentamiento entre perro y gato.

Spycat and the Paper Chase was created as a digital animation final year project at the School of Art, Design & Media (ADM), Nanyang Technological University (NTU).

In 2011, the filmmakers received the Singapore Film Commission’s Short Film Grant for Spycat and the Paper Chase. Spycat and the Paper Chase has been presented in 33 countries over five continents, with almost 1000 screenings to date:

Argentina, Armenia, Australia, Austria, Bangladesh, Bolivia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Canada, China, Germany, Greece, Hungary, India, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Lithuania, Macedonia, Malta, The Netherlands, Pakistan, Peru, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Serbia, Singapore, Sweden, Taiwan, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom, United States of America and Uruguay.

CreatorsPeeping Pigeons Productions is an artist collective which includes Darren Lim (Singapore), Fung Chun Hong (Singapore), Derwin Silamaya Suhali (Indonesia) and Soh Yu Xian (Malaysia). The animated short film Spycat and the Paper Chase is their first project together.

Darren Lim

Darren Lim is a Singaporean artist and writer who enjoys designing characters and visualising the worlds that they live in. Spycat and the Paper Chase is his first official animated short film. He currently works as a project officer at the School of Art, Design & Media, Nanyang Technological University.

Fung Chun Hong

Fung Chun Hong spent his youth studying parent-approved subjects like chemistry and economics before switching tracks to animation. He graduated with a degree in Digital Animation from Nanyang Technological University in 2011. Currently, he is pursuing his MFA in Game Design at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco.

Derwin Silamaya Suhali

Derwin Silamaya Suhali loves drawing. He graduated from Nanyang Technological University with a BFA in Digital Animation. He has contributed to many projects, including Spycat and the Paper Chase where he animated, storyboarded and designed props for the short film. He currently works at Sparky Animation as a junior animator.

Soh Yu Xian

Soh Yu Xian has a passion for bringing CG characters to life. This can be seen in his latest collaborative animated short film Spycat and the Paper Chase. He is currently an animator at Sparky Animation, where he works on animated TV series like Doc McStuffins and Dinosaur Train.

Ever-stylish and professional, Honeycat is Spycat’s fellow agent and superior. Beneath her cool exterior, Honeycat secretly harbours a soft spot for Spycat.

He has performed in theatre productions in Singapore (Singapore Repertory Theatre, W!ld Rice, Pangdemonium) and America (Junie B. Jones, Thoroughly Modern Millie). He has released an EP, Moments Alone. He will be in HBO’s Serangoon Road next.

Noella Menon is an established voice actor and jingle artist based in Singapore. She began her career singing jingles for leading brands in India. Her alluring, sultry voice is featured in award-winning tourism campaign Malaysia Truly Asia, as well as in television spots for CNN, BBC, MGM, ESPN and Turner.

Joshua Lim is a Singaporean actor, host, and voice talent. He loves to sing and is very fond of animals, especially animated ones. He believes the world is ending, so everyone should grab a handful of seeds, fly to another planet, and plant them all there to start anew. As a voiceover talent, Gillian has worked for the BBC and other corporate clientele. Her role as Ashley in Spycat remains one of her favourite character portrayals.
