Hollywood Conservative Unmasked asNotorious Holocaust Revisionist

Republican Party Animals operator David Stein says he is reallyDavid Cole, and that he still holds controversial views

o those who knew him,or thought they knewhim, he was a cerebral,

fun-loving gadfly who hosted boozy gatherings for Hollywood's political conservatives. David Stein brought right-wing congressmen, celebrities, writers and entertain-ment industry figures together for shindigs, closed to outsiders, wherethey could scorn liberals and pro-claim their true beliefs.

Over the past five years Stein'sorganization, Republican Party An-imals, drew hundreds to regular

events in and around Los Angeles, making him a darling of conserva-tive blogs and talk shows. That hemade respected documentaries onthe Holocaust added intellectualcachet and Jewish support to Stein'scocktail of politics, irreverence androck and roll.

There was just one problem.Stein was not who he claimed. His

    David Stein Cole

real name can be revealed for thefirst time publiclya close circleof confidants only found out thetruth recentlyas David Cole. Andunder that name he was once a re-viled Holocaust revisionist whoquestioned the existence of Nazi

gas chambers. He changed identi-ties in January 1998.

That was when David Cole of-

ficially expired, he told the Guard-ian in an interview this week. Thatwas the end of Cole. Or so Ithought. That was when DavidStein was brought into this world.

For 15 years I have been DavidStein. Now the genie is out of the bottle. I'm done. I'm finished. I'mnot going to try to remain as DavidStein.

Cole's brazen reinvention as asocial networker and political pun-

dit deceived a roll-call of conserva-tive politicians, filmmakers, jour-nalists and broadcasters who hadno clue about his past. A falling outwith a friend led to his unmaskingin his social circle two weeks ago, when a group of former supporterswas shown YouTube clips of Cole's

incendiary and until then forgot-ten television appearances in theearly 1990s.

As a combative twenty some-thing with tousled black hair, hewas a vilified guest on chat showshosted by Phil Donahue, MontelWilliams and Morton Downey, among others, and was depicted asa neo-Nazi on news shows such as60 Minutes and 48 Hours.

My friends are horrified, saidCole, now aged 44 and with grey-ing hair. They rang and emailed toask if it really was me. The Holly-wood types are the ones hurting themost right now because they could be harmed by this. I'm feeling acertain amount of guilt. The unmasking shocked and an-gered the small, tight-knit commu-nity of Hollywood conservatives, setting their Facebook groupsablaze and prompting emergencymeetings.

Some of Stein/Cole's erstwhilefriends are media figures with blogs, newspaper columns andsyndicated radio shows. They put alid on the story. Not a word has been published or broadcast. When people found out it was,Oh my God, get the fuck awayfrom him. There was debate aboutwhether everyone would look guilty by association, said oneentertainment industry artist, amember of Republican Party Ani-mals, who requested anonymity. The reason we were all so pissedat him is it plays into every horriblestereotype about the right.

Cole, and the half-dozen former friends and acquaintances inter-viewed for this article, stress thatno one suspected his secret and thatno one should be tarred with hisviews.

An additional reason for tryingto contain the story, said the artist,

was to deprive Cole of further lime-light. No one wants to give himthe satisfaction of making him feelgrander than he really was.

Cole, who insists he is a genuineconservative, said his betrayalwould sting all the more becauseconservatives in Hollywood are apersecuted minority who musthide their political convictions from

    Republican Party Animal

    intolerant liberals who dominatethe industry:

I don't blame them for jettison-ing me. Everyone is scared todeath. They don't want this to range beyond Facebook.

Cole agreed to meet the Guardi-an in order to give his side of thestory. He was rueful at being outedand wry about his future. I don'texpect many people at my birthday party this year, he said.

Born in 1968 in Los Angeles toliberal, secular-minded Jewish par-ents, Cole's father, Leon, was adoctor who became controversialfor introducing Elvis Presley toDemerol. He was accused of hooking Elvis on drugs, of killingElvis. Cole did not go to universi-ty I wanted to begin working but by the 1980s he had becomefascinated by political ideology,

especially the work of fringe schol-ars known then as Holocaust revi-sionists, subsequently renamed de-nialists.

He became convinced that onsome points they were right andthat as a Jew, he would undertake aquixotic quest to correct the his-torical record, arguing that Ausch-witz was not an exterminationcamp in the manner of Treblinka,Sobibor, Belzec and Chelmno which he acknowledged were partof a genocidal programme againstPolish Jews; that the Holocaustended in 1943, when the Nazis re-alised they needed Jewish slavelabor for factories; and that therewas no overarching, genocidal plan, but an evolving, morphing policy which claimed perhaps 4million, rather than 6 million, Jew-ish lives.

The young Cole became a noto-rious celebrity, the turncoat Jew,ferried from studio to studio, glee-fully clashing with historians andJewish representatives. However,he grew uneasy when white su- premacists and Islamic radicalsappropriated his work, he said, and he halted public appearancesafter the Oklahoma City bombingin 1995.

Another factor was a deaththreat from the Jewish DefenseLeague, a militant, violent group. In January 1998, wanting to startanew, Cole wrote a letter to theJDL, recanting his views.

The threat was lifted. Cole, hiscredibility shredded on all sides,

adopted the name Stein, chosen because it was simple and short, hesaid. Only a few close friends knewthe secret.I havent changed my views

The recanting was fake, he said.Cole today still challenges estab-lished Holocaust scholarship, in-

cluding the certainty about Nazigas chambers. The best guess isyes, there were gas chambers, hesays. But there is still a lot of murkiness about the camps. I have-n't changed my views. But I regret Ididn't have the facility with lan-guage that I have now. I was just akid, he said this week.

As Stein, however, he shieldedhis views, not least during the nextstage of his career odyssey: themaker of respectable, conventionalHolocaust documentaries. He knewthe subject, needed an income andUS schools and universities had budgets to commission such pro- jects. He said: I gave mainstreamaudiences what they wanted. At the same time, he startedwriting op-eds under Stein and oth-er pseudonyms, expressing what hesaid was his growing fervor for ahawkish foreign policy, a strongIsrael and conservative social poli-cy. Posts on his acerbic blog were picked up by mainstream news out-lets including.

When Barack Obama was elect-ed president in 2008, Cole sensedopportunity. Inspired by the writer PJ O'Rourke's brand of rollicking,liquor-fuelled conservatism, he saidhe launched Republican Party An-imals, a networking circle for liber-tarians and social conservativeswhich promised spice scantily-clad women, drink, fun, loud mu-sic but not too much. Therewould be no cocaine or illegality.

"Do you like your conservative politics mixed with a healthy dose

of whiskey, fine cigars and kickassrock n' roll? its website asked.Do you live in a city filled withmorons wearing Che T-shirts asthey mindlessly cling to tattered, faded 2008 Hope and Change posters? Then WELCOME, friend this is the group for you! Blog

posts assailed Obama, Occupy pro-testors and alleged anti-Semites.

It was a hit. Congressmen suchas Thaddeus McCotter and MikeKelly attended events, as did neo-con luminaries such as Frank Gaffney.

A 2011 summer bash off Hol-lywood Boulevard included LarryElder, a syndicated radio host; BillWhittle, a commentator; StephenKruiser, a comedian; Lloyd LeeBarnett, a visual effects artist for Avatar; Nick Searcy, an actor; andWilliam Sachs, a director. Other Hollywood guests kept their at-tendance at such events discreet, toavoid the conservative label.

Cole's mistake, he said, was toconfide his secret to a friend withwhom he fell out. The friend wentnuclear and outed him to their conservative circle.

Besieged by followers demand-ing answers, Cole last week shutdown much of his online presenceand retreated from view. A farewellnote on his blog announced the endof his involvement with RepublicanParty Animals, saying he had beenassassinated by an exceptionallyvindictive young lady. The notedid not elaborate or confess his de-ception.

Former friends and acquaintanc-es, most speaking on condition of anonymity, challenged elements of Cole's account to the Guardian andcalled him pathologically duplic-itous, alleging he padded his filmresume on the IMDb database withfictitious entries. His purported

production company, Nistarim , isHebrew for The Concealed.Scott Edwards, an Oregon-based

businessman, said he founded Re- publican Party Animals in 2009and that Cole, claiming to be a Hol-lywood big shot, took over thewebsite and was involved in organ-

izing just a few events. He never ran the group. Things started hap- pening behind the scenes so Ikicked him out in February 2012.Cole, however, continued control-ling the website, networking andorganizing events under the Repub-lican Party Animals banner untillast month.

Holocaust experts and Jewishgroups who remembered Cole fromthe 1990s expressed astonishmentthat he had resurfaced and still pro-fessed Holocaust revisionism. Mi-chael Shermer, a historian who publishes Skeptic magazine, saidCole's views on the Holocaust weresimplistic and appeared designed tostir controversy.Shermer debated and inter-viewed Cole several times in hisyouth. I found him to be verysmart and on some level likeable, though a little irritating.

But he was too smart for hisown good. He had no training as ahistorian. I had the impression heliked to stir things up just for thehell of it, to be a contrarian for con-trarian's sake.

Rabbi Abraham Cooper, associ-ate dean of the Simon WiesenthalCentre, said Cole's views on theHolocaust could no longer be at-tributed to youthfulnaivet . "I'mvery disappointed that someonewho abused his Jewishness to gethis five minutes of notoriety stillstands by his lies. It's disgustingand puts him in the camp of bigot-ry.

Its too early for me to comment onany of this. If my own experiencetells me anything, you can talk to a

journalist for half a day and find only a few snippets of what you

said in the resulting article. The story was all over the blogosphere for a week or ten days, but there

has been little new. I am going to suppose that Cole will wait out the press stuff for a while, then make

his own statement. It will be inter-esting to see what he might have uphis sleeve. I cant begin to imagine

what he can pull off with what hehas here.

    Prepares for Elie Wiesel visit

hen I learned thatElie Wiesel was go-ing to speak at Kent

State University, (See:http://tinyurl.com/bzha2ra ) Ithought it would be good to partici- pate in the festivities. I brought thematter up with Jett Rucker and heagreed that it might be worth thewhile to join in. We understood wewould not be welcome guests, butthen that is the fate of all revision-ists in these matters. We beganwith my letter to the editor of the

Elie Wiesel will speak at KentState University on 11 April 2013.Professor Wiesel is the most fa-mous, most respected Holocaustsurvivor in the world. Wiesel has been awarded the Nobel PeacePrize, the Congressional GoldMedal, and the Presidential Medalof Freedom among many others.

Every academic at Kent StateUniversity is well acquainted withMr. Wiesels fame, but here I willspeculate that not one academic atKent State has suggested to her students that Wiesels words should be looked at with a critical eye.

For example: Elie Wiesel claimsthat after Jews were executed atBabi Yar in the Ukraine, geysersof blood spurted from their gravefor months afterward ( Parolesd'etranger , 1982, p. 86). Has one professor at Kent State suggested toher students that the truth of thisclaim might be questioned?

Why not?Elie Wiesel claimed he was

liberated from Dachau (JewishTelegraphic Agency, 11 April1983), liberated from Buchen-wald (NYT, 2 Nov. 1986), andliberated from Auschwitz (NYPost, 23 Oct. 1986 and NYT, 4 Jan.1987). Has one professor at KentState University bothered to look into which, if any, of these claimsis true? If so, is there a recordavailable to Kent State students for their perusal?

Why not?Elie Wiesel has quoted Yankiel

Wiernik, an escapee from Treblin-ka, before university audiences. Itwas a terrifying sight, Wiernik reported. The most gruesome ever beheld by human eyes. Whencorpses of pregnant women were

cremated, their bellies would burstopen. The fetus would be exposedand could be seen burning insidethe mother's womb. At one lectureat Northwestern University ElieWiesel, after reading this passagefrom Wierniks Death Camp Tre-blinka , said:

You must listen. You must lis-ten to more! I repeat, if YankielWiernik had the courage to write, you must listen.

Elie Wiesel is the man who isgoing to speak at Kent State Uni-versity to the applause of its facultyand Administration. There is ascandal here, for which there is noevidence that any academic at KentState is willing to address. Why isthat so? What have your professorsto lose for simply acting in concertwith the ideals of their professionand of the University itself?

    Of being, simply, grown-ups?

On the 17th I posted a commenton Kent Wired about how the KSUJewish Studies program was pre- paring for a visit by Elie Wiesel on11 April. Ten days later my com-ment was still there. I wrote a noteto the Editorial Board to congratu-late it. The below text was copied

Note to congratulate the Boardfor allowing the below comment to be published.

In his autobiographical book Night , Elie Wiesel writes that inJanuary 1945, when he and his fa-ther were both prisoners of the

murderous German Nazis atAuschwitz, they were asked bytheir captors if they would prefer toremain in that death camp, wherecountless Jews had already beenmurdered in gas chambers, to awaitthe imminent arrival of their Sovietliberators, or would they rather leave with the Nazi Jew-killers whowere abandoning the camp. ElieWiesel and his dad, talking it over, agreed they would prefer to leave

on the death-march retreat withGerman Nazis dedicated to exter-minating Jews as a race rather thanwait for their Soviet liberators. Is there one professor at Kent StateUniversity who thinks it might beworthwhile that students consider the significance of this confession?

    Why not?

My unstated prediction wasthat, no, there would be no academ-ic at Kent State who would dare toencourage a free exchange of ideason this or any other adolescentclaim that Professor Wiesel hasmade regarding his alleged experi-ences at Auschwitz. There is morethan one moral issue here. It is theeyewitness testimony of such men

and women as Elie Wiesel that isused to morally justify the Jewishconquest and occupation of Arabland in Palestine. And it is a moral,as well as an intellectual decision, for KSU academics to suppress aroutine examination of the text inexamination of Elie Wiesel's

    Night .

On 20 March I posted a secondcomment on the Elie Wiesel storyregarding the upcoming appearance by Wiesel.

Elie Wiesel, the darling of Kent State academics and of theProfessorial Class nationwide, is to be welcomed there on 11 April tospeak. Would it be improper, meanwhile, for Kent State studentsto learn what Elie Wiesel has writ-ten, say, about Babi Yar?

Babi Yar is a ravine near Kievin Ukraine. There, during the Holo-caust years, the Germans executedSoviet citizens, some of whomwere Jews, and buried them wherethey fell. Wiesel writes that there iseyewitness testimony that for months after the killings the earthtrembled and geysers of bloodspurted from the ground.

Okay. So there they are.Theyre dead, theyre cold, theyre buried in dirt, but they retain aunique ability, as do so many eye-witnesses that Elie Wiesel pro-motes, to express themselves with aunique imagination. They organizedown there in their airless, dark surroundings, and in order to speak

to the world so we will never for-get, they shudder until the earthitself trembles. And they spurt their blood up through the ground intothe air again and again whereeyewitnesses can view the bloodygeysers for months on end (literal-ly) and report it to whatever ninnywill believe it and take it aroundthe world until it ends up at KentState University.

Elie Wiesel wrote that in Jewsof Silence , a straightforward book of journalism. If one Kent Stateacademic were to initiate a discus-sion of this corrupt Babi-Yar ro-mance, is it not possible that stu-dents on campus would find it in-formative? Perhaps interesting? That they might have a couple newquestions to ask Professor ElieWiesel when he shows up to lecturethem?

Elie would probably prefer thatno one mentions Babi Yar. He cancount on Kent State academics toremain silent. But I wonder, can hereally count on Kent State stu-dents?

    --Bradley Smith ____________________________

This was stuff that KSU stu-dents had never seen. Comments by

others were beginning to appear, introducing the issue of Israeli dep-redations against Palestinians. Itstrench work, but word gets around.I submitted a third comment deal-ing with the Yankiel Wiernik taleabout being an eyewitness to preg-nant ladies being cremated, their

bellies bursting open to reveal their fetuses burning like little torches.

This time my comment was not published. The kids at the paper must have been getting an earful behind the scenes. And then thenext step took place. All com-ments to the Elie Wiesel storywere disappeared, as well as theoriginal article announcingWiesels coming appearance. Theywere there one day, gone the next.It was like KSU student newspaper was being run by Argentinean fas-cists. You do something, you saysomething that is not approved of by the ruling class, there is not a lotof small talk, youre just disap- peared. Real life had caught upwith the editors at Kent Wired.

It would be interesting to knowhow the Board is being advised by their professors in the Depart-ment of Journalism and Mass Communications. The Department, speaking for itself, writes: Our faculty members are dedicated to preparing students for 21st centurycareers on paper, on air and onlinein mass communication profes-sions. That being the case, Jett nexthad an open letter for them.

    Wiesels War Comingto Kent State

    By Jett Rucker

When national guardsmen cameto the Kent State campus that terri- ble day in May 1970, you didnthave to pay to get to see them. Infact, Sandra Scheuer and WilliamSchroeder may never have seenthem at all as they walked betweenclasses, until the guardsmens bul-lets came from nowhere andsnuffed out their lives. The

guardsmen themselves were paidthe measly pittances allotted in theage of conscription to enlisted men.

Today, it is very different atKent State, as elsewhere. Today, amid great ballyhoo, Elie Wiesel, poster boy of the Never Againschool of Holocaust tub-thumping,is paid a reputed $25,000 to pro-mote war in the Middle East tocredulous Americans at Kent StateUniversity, most of whom willhave paid for the privilege of at-tending this now-sold-out event.Make no mistake: the bullets inWiesels arsenal are real, theyredeadly, and Americans, just as inthe day of Nixons war in Vietnam, are central to the aim of Wiesels barrage.

Hes selling outrage, of course, and courting sympathy, for eventsthat happened long agolonger ago by far than even the killing of Kent State students protesting the1970 American attack on Cambo-dia in support of the murderousVietnam adventure. But the war hes promoting today with his out-rage and sympathy-pleading devic-eslately against Iran, and forever against dispossessed Palestinians is in the immediate future, and itsdemands for manpower, and wom-anpower, are aimed squarely at to-days student generation at KentState as elsewhere. He dishonorsthe (Jewish and non-Jewish) deadof the Holocaust as scurrilously asit is possible to imagine its beingdone: by advocating still moredeath and destruction, not only of

Arabs, Iranians, and the occasionalIsraeli, but of the vast and trustingresource of American youth.

He and his mighty lobby, of course, advance this unholy agendaunder the disarming rubric of Never Again another Holocaust,of the sort whose history has

brought Wiesel a Nobel Peace Prize and the apartheid state of Is-rael a lever on the consciences andcarefully crafted sensibilities of everyday Americans that threatensto catapult America once again intothe very same pit in which the four Kent Staters died on campus in1970, plus dozens more who diedwhile or after serving in SoutheastAsia.

Just as in 1970, this grim reaper comes to campus (on April 11, atthe MAC Center) at the invitationof the universitys president, butthis time with ample warning of a partial nature. What is omitted fromthe warnings concerning theEvening with Elie Wiesel is theinsidious, horrific incitement to war that his program is crafted to sup- port, even if explicit mention of itis discreetly avoided.

The armed guards that are pro-vided to protect such presentersfrom people who realize just whatis being advanced in events likethis will not, as they were in 1970,all be wearing uniforms. But their guns are nonetheless trained direct-ly on the students of today, all over America. And left to run un-checked, they will kill you and im- poverish your family as surely asdid the guns of 70.

Just as then, if you protest, youmight die, as protesters Jeffrey Mil-ler and Allison Krause did. If youdont, you still might diejust alittle later, and much farther fromhome.

At this point in the festivitiesSmith succumbed to some kind of sick spell that has not been diag-

nosed and there was a break in thework. A couple weeks passed, Jettand I talked it over, it may have been his idea, and we decided to letKent State go and turn to BostonUniversity where Elie Wiesel has

his home base. For me, the idea isnot to destroy Elie Wiesel or hisreputation (at this time in our histo-ry that is impossible in any event) but to wake up students to the fail-ings of their professors to address

Wiesel, his anti-Muslim politicsand his just plain craziness. Follow-ing is Jetts first open letter on thematter.

Boston University scored afund-raising coup when, in 1976, ithired the face of the Holocaust,Elie Wiesel. Ten years later, Wieselreceived the Nobel Peace Prize, magnifying his value to BU's de-velopment function, as it's knownin the nonprofit world, by an order of magnitude. Since then, as secu-lar American Jews have driftedaway from the theology of their hereditary religion, Wiesel's stock-in-trade has supplanted Judaismitself as the conduit by which virtu-ous Jews demonstrate devotion tothe surrogate religion of the suffer-ing of European Jews at the handsof Germany's National Socialistregime of 19331945.

As hoped, this development, re-inforced by Israel's own ever-mounting exploitation of the Holo-caust narrative, has diverted to Bos-ton University many a million thatmight have gone to a synagogue or a community center in an earlier day. The synagogue isn't going toget your kids admitted to a Good

School anyway, and BU's student body today includes a higher per-centage of Jews than any other uni-versity in America besides rabbini-cal colleges. Other institutions bythe dozen, private colleges andstate schools alike, trail eagerly behind BU in mimicking its vaunt-ed Elie Wiesel Center for JudaicStudies, hiring eminent facultysuch as Deborah Lipstadt (atEmory) and recruiting Jewish stu-dents, who statistically are far morelikely to become generous alumnithan graduates from any other group of comparable size. But noone else has Elie Wiesel, or anyoneultimately quite in his league as aliving symbol of the age when theworld's Jews tragically eclipsed allother groups victimized by racismin all history.

But increasingly, this whole business is taking on a very foulodor. And that odor is the mordantstench of blood. Blood, you say?How could the Nobel Peace laure-ate, a man evermore displaying themost-peaceful mien after havingsurvived the infamous "deathcamps" of Nazi Germany?

The way he does this, by twistsof fate straight out of Or-well's 1984, is by promoting and perpetuating that bedrock of Israel'seternal claim to righteousness, thatvery Holocaust he has made such acareer out of having experienced a martyr who nonetheless walksamong us today. Supporting Israelhas been his true mtier since be-fore he first published La Nuit inFrance in 1958, and he and others

have done so so thoroughly thatIsrael today bestrides the MiddleEast from the Mediterranean to theJordan River, precisely the way itsapologists claim God gave it theright to. It does this today the wayit did in Biblical times: by thesword, shedding blood in volumesthat would seem by now enough tofill the well-named Dead Sea.

Despite the fact that many right-thinking Jews in America and Isra-el decry this, well-meaning donorsoverlook the cunningly disguisedrole of Wiesel's Holocaust promo-tion in funding the mightiest war machine that ever shook the earthof Palestinewith money extractedfrom American taxpayers, Jewishand not.

Donating dollars to Boston Uni-versityin particular, of course, tothe Elie Wiesel Centerjust addsmass to this fearsome avalanchethat threatens again today to drawAmerica's armed forces into yetanother devastating, dehumanizingwar. Sending tuition dollars to Bos-ton University has a similar effect.

While no other institution of higher learning has Elie Wiesel, most of them heedlessly advancehis pernicious agenda to some ex-tent. Nevertheless, supporting anyof those, rather than Boston Uni-versity, might diminish, by howev-er little, the power of the bulldozer pushing America into war.

DOUG CHRISTIE AND BISHOP TUTU?IT MIGHT HAVE BEEN

s most of you know,Canadian lawyer andfree-speech standard-

    bearer Doug Christie died in

March. I was blindsided. Looking back, I dont understand why thatwas. I was aware that Doug had prostate cancer but somehow I hadthought he would take care of it.While I hear regularly from PaulFromm of the Canadian Associa-tion for Free Expression (CAF), ithad been some time since I hadreceived Keltie Zubkos newsletter.

One day in early March I re-ceived a message originating with

Paul Fromm, forwarded to me by athird party, that Doug was very sick and was in hospital. That surprisedme. I sent Doug an email encourag-ing him to look into nutritionalsupplements to back up whatever treatment the medicos were givinghim. I recommended a source for information and supplements both.I explained that I thought the sup- plements had helped bring methrough my own bout with cancer

and chemotherapy pretty well. Iwrote that I used nutritional rec-ommendations in addition to, not in place of, the standard treatment Igot at the Veterans Hospital. And Iadded that I did so without inform-ing my doctors of what I was doing because no doctor had ever shown

a positive interest, or any interestwhatever, in such matters.

    Doug Christie

The very next day I received amessage, again forwarded to me bya third party, originating withKeltie Zubko, this time to the effectthat Dougs cancer had spread tohis liver and his life was in ques-tion. I was caught utterly by sur- prise. I should have been aware of what was happening, many otherswere, but I had remained in thedark. And I understood that themessage I had sent Doug the day before about supplements must

have read as if it were written by aninsensitive fool. I wrote Keltie say-ing as much. And then it happened.Within days, Doug was gone.

I did not know Doug personallyat all well. I was in Toronto in 1988at the Zundel House when he wasdefending Ernst against prosecution

for thought crimes by the Canadiangovernment. We must have crossed paths there a number of times, buthe was doing serious work with

Ernst and Faurisson which I wasnot a part of. The only clear imageI have, which I have told any num- ber of times in the past, is of theafternoon when we were in courtand I was testifying for the defense.Once Christie had examined me,and the prosecution had cross-examined me, court was recessedfor lunch.

When I was cross-examined bythe State prosecutor I had made a

special effort to explain that I didnot understand why a man was be-ing prosecuted for having a minori-ty perspective about one historicalevent, because in America we had afree press. I had several occasionsto make that point in various ways. The lawyer cross-examining me, aswell as some of those in attendanceas spectators, expressed impatienceat my attitude. And then the courtrecessed for lunch and while the

judge was still in the room, Christielooked up at me from his tablegrinning from ear to ear and gaveme a very public thumbs up. Itwas unexpected, and it is the oneconcrete, personal memory I haveof Doug.

So early last year I was pleas-antly surprised when Doug wroteme saying that he wanted to work out a program to encourage an en-gagement with Holocaust revision-ism internationally. His idea wasto write a letter to one individualwho was internationally respectedasking for his support and copy thatletter to important figures world-wide asking for their signatures. Iwas uncertain if that was a goodway to go. I ran the idea past Ruck-er, Widmann and Merlin. Merlinsuggested that we write BishopDesmond Tutu of South Africa. Iwas skeptical. Then several sourcesreported on Bishop Tutus responseto Israeli attacks on Palestiniansand that made a connection withme. I sent Doug a link to an articlein Haaretz headlined: Arabs pay-ing the price of the Holocaust.

On 07 May 2012 I received anote from Doug sent from his iPh-one: Doug to Smith. Thinking.Consulting. How long? The lastquestion addressing my suggestedlength for the letter. I had thought500 words and probably less would be best.On 01 June 2012 I received anemail from Doug with the subjectline reading Petition for Free De- bate.

Dear Bradley: Further to our previous discussions, which due tothe passage of time, I may haveforgotten in detail, I would like tosuggest that we draft a reasonableand articulate petition for free de- bate on the Holocaust, which we

could then approach prominent people around the world with aview to acquiring their signature.

It seems to me that drafting of this particular document is a sensi-tive matter which needs to havesufficient breadth to enable a ra-tional, sincere, and academically

honest, as well as courteous discus-sion on the subject, so that promi-nent people would not feel fright-ened by the thought of signing sucha statement.

Have you any ideas on this?Keeping in mind that talking is

to be preferred to emailing, oneafternoon I telephoned Doug. I hadnot spoken to him in 24 years, since1988. When he answered it wasremarkable. It was as if we wereold friends who chatted regularly. He was driving a pickup in thecountryside as we talked, heading perhaps to a farm or country house. He was so open, the tone of hisvoice so welcomingI want to sayrichit was as if it were a normalevent for us to chat each other up.It was as if 24 years had reducedthemselves to 24 days, or 24 hours. In the event, we talked about theBishop Tutu letter and how to han-dle it.

On 06 June 2012 I received anemail from Doug:

Bradley,It was great talking to you on

the telephone, and Ill be thinkingof you in the coming days whileyou are receiving your treatment. If its possible for you to glance over this draft letter and tell me whatyou think, Ill be very grateful. Isthis the type of letter you contem- plate?

It is, of course, just an intro-ductory letter, and I am approach-ing this from the point of view of aSouth African doctor friend of

mine, who may give me better in-formation on how to phrase thistype of approach. However, I look forward to your comments and cor-rections, and no doubt guidance asto a better way to communicatethese important questions.

Dear Bishop Tutu:With your signature human-

ism, you have recognized in Israela regime fully as predacious on adisempowered minority as ever theApartheid regime was that youhelped overcome by the pure forceof your moral stature.

Both Apartheid and its even-uglier cousin in Israel are systemsof repression: physical, economic, territorial, massively violent, andintellectual. That of South Africa, however, had the virtue, asviewed from the rest of the world,of being essentially confined toSouth Africa. The one centered inIsrael, on the other hand, has aninsidious Doppelgnger that roamsthe world like an evil Santa Claus, but unlike jolly old Saint Nick,eve-ry day and every night of everyyear.

Unlike Santa Claus, this24/7/365 myth monger brings not presents, but a congeries of lies andhatred whose purpose is to disguiseand justify the doings of the evil juggernaut of Zionism, all the way back to 1948, the dark year inwhich both Apartheid and Israelwere enacted. This impregnablyentrenched golem of duplicity anddepredation is, of course, the re-lentless campaign against historicalrevisionof Israels history, for one, but of paramount importance, the so-called Holocaust of theEuropean Jews. It takes not just theform of denial and counter- propaganda, but also a covert butmassive campaign of repression

through reputational terrorism thathas ruined careers and even lives inthe media, in the academy, in gov-ernment, and in ordinary lives. Itsagents sayanim in their own lan-guageare placed high, low, andabove all densely in the venues just

    named, including your own, reli-gion.

The targets of this vicious ini-tiative encompass not only good, honest, hardworking people (manyof them Jews), but political integri-ty, academic freedom, and truthitselfvalues equivalent to thespilling of untold gallons of human blood and the stuff, as your actionsthus far against Apartheid in SouthAfrica and Palestine eloquentlydemonstrate you know, that makesthe lives of humans, human.

Could you see your way to di-recting your massive moral authori-ty explicitly and vigorously againstthis hideous handmaiden of Israeliapartheid, whose shadow falls notmerely on the Middle East, butacross the entire world, incitingneighbor against neighbor, raceagainst race, army against army, and nation against nation, the whilemurdering truth, honesty and free-dom?

Obviously, doing so cannot butadvance your declared intention of overcoming Israeli apartheid. Andlike the evil itself, it can bemust

beconducted bloodlessly. Andthat waythe bloodless wayisthe way you have already shown tohave power before which the forcesof violence can only creep awayinto the emasculated obscurity thatfrees humanity of their hope-killingcurse.

    Yours truly,Douglas H. Christie, Barrister,Solicitor and Notary PublicVictoria, BC V8Z 7E7

On 13 June. Christie copied meon several emails received fromassociates of Bishop Tutu in Tutusown office and at the PolokwaneMankweng Hospital Complex,University of Limpopo-PolokwaneCampus.

As you can see, he wrote, Ihave made some personal contactsin South Africa, which might expe-dite our letter to his personal atten-tion. Do you have any further sug-gestions?

I thought this second draft of Dougs letter was close, but I have

no record that I responded to it.And I have no record that Dougtried to contact me again. On myend my own cancer was back and Iwas going through the chemothera- py process for the second time. Iwas tired, and then there was thestroke. I dont even remember when that was, but it was about thattime and I was not on top of mymental game (not a straight line).

On Dougs end, I can only sup- pose that he was aware that hiscancer was progressing, that it wasincreasingly bothersome for him, that probably he was receivingtreatment for it, and that he wasgetting distracted himself.

In any event, I have no record, and no memory, of our communi-cating again.

I will never forget the quality of Dougs voice that day I called himout of the blue after 24 years. Thedeep, fine texture of the voice, theuncomplicated sincerity, the wayhe was instantly, completely therewith me.

    FRAGMENTS: Another Ordinary LifeBradley Smith

*** Getting this issue of Smiths Report done has been diffi-cult for me. There is nothing in the

Report itself that is difficult. Anaccounting of what Jett Rucker andI did at Kent State and Boston Uni-versities with regard to the ElieWiesel question. And then the storyabout how Doug Christie ap- proached me with his idea to go toimportant international figures toask for their support in developingthe right to a free press with regardto questioning the orthodox Holo-

caust story. But I found that organ-izing the material, as simple as it is,was difficult. It was as if, when Ilooked at the page, the brain turned blank. Or white, as Mexicanswould have it. Inside the head, things were stalled. That went onfor weeks. Literally.

Odd, but at the same time theunending interior monologue, or dialogue, never stopped and had thesame youthful ring to it that ithad 50 years ago and longer. Its asif, inwardly, Id never aged. When

I was a kidand the brain turns back to Korea and to Mexico in the1950sI did things without think-ing that I would never do now. Immore aware of consequences nowthan I was in those days. Caution.Caution itself might be one kind of maturity. A rather ordinary kind.

I was on the phone with Ted,telling him about this and I said:Maybe its just that Im gettingold. He replied: Youre not get-ting old, Bradley. You ARE old!

    Okay. I suppose so. Eighty-three.

*** Noam Chomsky writes:Rack up another triumph for Pres-ident Obama's global assassination program, which creates hatred of the United States and threats to itscitizens more rapidly than it kills people who are suspected of posinga possible danger to us someday.

This is what Ron Paul has beensaying for a decade now.

*** This morning I woke upearlyat 7.30, thats early for methese days and I felt good. Thehead was clear. I understood thiswas the day to talk to Widmannand Rucker about the work. I calledthem both, missed them both, butleft messages to get back to mewhen they can. I want their reactionto where I am with the work.Something is missing. Im not be-ing told that by others, but that iswhat I sense myself. I need to takea new tack, go at the work from anew, innovative angle.

*** The U.S Holocaust Memo-rial Museum, federally funded, haslaunched a campaign to raise $540million by 2018 to keep thememory of the Holocaust alive andto combat anti-Semitism, Holo-caust denial and contemporarygenocide. It has already securedgifts totaling $258.7 million in itsquest to double the size of the mu-seums endowment by its 25th an-niversary. Also, a $15 million giftfrom Holocaust survivors Davidand Fela Shapell will help build anew collections and conservation

center. That is, they expect to raisesome $100 million dollars-plus ayear for the next five years. Onecan only imagine what they can buy with that.

With regard to my own budget, business and personal, I need some

    $4,000 a month. Sometimes I get it,sometimes I dont.

*** Who Is David Stein? AStrange Hollywood RepublicanOuts Himself as Holocaust Denier David Cole. That is the headlineto a story by Sharon Waxman inThe Wrap , a Hollywood blog. Seehttp://tinyurl.com/boqpfk6

Her story is reprinted in variousHollywood blogs and websites. The

Huffington Post reprintsThe Wrap story. Since then there is little new-to report. Its as if the major Hol-lywood figures associated withStein-Coles Republican PartyAnimals are keeping quiet. Whywould they not? Were talking Hol-lywood here.

*** Widmann has gotten back with me. Widmann himself got in-volved with revisionism through anad Smith placed in Widmannscampus newspaper some 20 yearsago. It was Widmann who later convinced me to create a Web pagefor CODOH on the Internet. It isWidmann who has gone on to pub-lish Inconvenient History: A Quar-terly Journal for Free Historical

Inquiry. This all began with one ad placed in one student newspaper.

We both recognize the fact thatthe other side has grown increas-ingly effective in the suppression of revisionist arguments in all main-line media on and off-campus. Nothing that I have done before can be done now with any real facility. The Holocaust Industry has become

immense with some 150 Holocaustmuseums, memorials and centers inthe United States alone, with a col-lective financial support that is inthe hundreds of millions of dollars.

Okay. So what now? Well,Widmann has a suggestion. Twit-ter. For those of you who are not

familiar with Twitter, it is an onlinesocial networking service, a kind of micro-blogging service that allowsits user to send and read text-basedmessages of up to 140 characters. Those messages are known astweets. I am reminded of the sto-ries beginning in the 19th century of the introduction of the telegraphand their brief messages printed outon a piece of yellow paper. Brief texts, but transformative in that era.

Twitter was created in 2006 andgained worldwide popularity soquickly that by 2012 there weresome 500 million registered users. You do not have to be registered toread tweets, but registered userscan post tweets using any number of mobile devices that are referredto now as apps. Widmann hasgrown increasingly aware thatyoung people, his son among them, were using smart phones, rather than the standard cell phones likehe and I both use. You cant tweetusing a standard cell phone, butwith a smart phone and all their apps available you can do mostanything you can imagine doing.Widmann has now bought asmart phone.

Widmann mentioned in passingthat Michael Shermer has some40,000 followers via Twitter. Of course, Shermer is a professionalacademic, publishes a real maga-zineThe Skeptic (which is skepticalabout most everything except thegas-chambers stories), and has beenat it for some time now. But if I can pull off a successful Twitter gig,

we could possibly reach thousands, perhaps tens of thousands, of new people with revisionist information. Not just on campus, but every-where. It would be a new step, maybe a Giant step (to coin a phrase) in taking holocaust revi-sionist arguments to the public. If

Shermer can get 40,000 Twitter followers, I think Smith can do it,with Rucker continuing to pitch in.

In order to stand out amidst theimmense number of Twitter ac-counts online, you are advised todevelop a persona for people toconnect to and identify with. Youneed to figure out what makes youunique in your niche and then ex-tend these differences between youand others in your Twitter posts.Decide what your persona or ap- proach is and then make sure your Twitter posts reflect that. Just mycup of tea, an old autobiographer. The uninhibited revelation of whatgoes on in the brain and the heartthroughout the day as you react toHolocaust fraud and falsehood, andto ordinary life. And linking every-thing to documents in CODOH andwork Smith has done.

*** On the telephone late lastnight with an old friend. We hadnttalked in two, three years. Hes ask-ing how I am, asking if I can stillget around and so on. I give himthe health history of the last coupleyears, including the business aboutthe stroke, that it is sometimes dif-ficult to follow a concept throughfrom beginning to end.

At that moment the image of awooden match appeared in theminds eye. What I saw was an or-dinary wood matchbut there wasno head on it. No way for it tolight. It was as if the brain had ef-fortlessly acknowledged, with thatone simple image, its present con-

dition. Brilliant!*** Explosion at 4.30 in morn-

ing. In the first instant I think bomb and my heart hesitates. Inthe next I am aware that the explo-sion has a thudding sound to it,not a cracking one, and I under-

stand it is not a bomb. As it turnedout, a major electrical transformer out on the street had exploded. Bymid-afternoon it was fixed and thelights and the computer were work-ing again.

*** We get an update from acorrespondent in France regardingErnst Zndels situation. His exclu-sion from the USA was halved by aCincinnati judge and it expired Feb.5 past. However he was preventedfrom entering the USA from CostaRica. His American lawyers tried touse the same procedure they hadused for Germar Rudolf but it didn'twork. Zndel speculates that Amer-ican bureaucrats consider him moredangerous. Moreover, there is arule that imprisonment for fiveyears permanently bars him fromentering the country. There is anappellate procedure and if that failsthere remain only appeal to theDept. of State and the President. His three-year German parole peri-od just ended.

At present he is waiting for Canada to submit documents relat-ing to his case. He will eventually be interviewed by the US Consu-late in Frankfurt. One of his law-yers will fly to Frankfurt for thehearing, which will be his first be-fore an American panel. They willreject his application on account of the five-year rule. At that point hislawyers will appeal. God onlyknows how much time and moneythese efforts will require.

*** Slept good last night andthis morning when I woke up there before me was an idea. Nothinggrand, but interesting. As I begin touse Twitter this weekTwitter isreferred to as a SMS or shortmessage systemI can suggestthat if the follower is interested is

encouraging a free exchange of ideas re the Holocaust question thatshe can place a live link advertise-ment in any campus or off campusnewspaper that is online. Her choice. The ad would read simply:Committee for Open Debate onthe Holocaust Question. The aditself would be the link, and itwould take the reader to theCODOH home page.

And then it occurs to me thatanyone of you can do the same. You dont have to do it through me. Not bad. Well see.

Until next month thenthank you for your support.
