has moved from thepetition process on toCity Hall. The statelaw requires that over50% of propertyowners within theboundaries of a districtsign petitionsapproving theestablishment of a newdistrict. Thosepetitions have to bereviewed andapproved by theAssessor and the CityCounselor afterverifying that thesignatures are valid. That approval camelast Friday!
The next step will beintroduction of a boardbill to the Board ofAldermen. That billwill approve the CIDpetition and establishthe SoulardCommunityImprovement District. Property owners arebeing notified bycertified mail asrequired by state lawthat a hearing on thematter is scheduledbefore the Ways andMeans Committee of
the Board ofAldermen. Thehearing is set for
Tuesday, July 2nd at10:00 A.M. Supporters areencouraged to come tothe hearing or sendnotes to AldermanJack Coatar to sharewith members of thecommittee. After thecommittee hearing thebill will go before theentire Board ofAldermen fordiscussion and, hopefully, finalapproval. After theBoard of Aldermen’sapproval and thesignature of the Mayor, the bill will become lawso the CID will be inplace.
The final step will bea vote by theregistered voterswithin theboundaries of theCID. This will be by amail-in ballot. Therewill be a certified lettercontaining a ballot sentto every registeredvoter within theboundaries of the
CID. The ballots willbe mailed in andcounted. A majority ofballots in favor of theCID is necessary tofinally implement theSoulard CommunityImprovement District.
A Soulard CommunityImprovement Districtcould be a realitybefore summer’s end! Thanks for all theneighborhood support!
