In some cases VETASSESS may need toconsider two or more overseas qualificationsto determine their comparability to theeducational level of a qualification on theAustralian Qualification Framework.
The assessment of your employment forPoints Test purposes determines whetheryour employment is closely related to yournominated occupation. Employment documentsUnless provided with a previous application,for each position you held, you must supplyofficial evidence of employment whichshows the employer’s name, the period ofemployment, the position held, the maintasks and hours of work and that theemployment was paid. Please also provideevidence of any continuing employment in aposition since your application for theSkills Assessment. If you have listed morethan one position or job on your applicationform, attach a cover sheet to the relevantemployment documents which states theposition to which the documents relate.All employment documents must be:

Missing documents
If you do not have your original documents,try to obtain the required documents fromthe relevant educational institution, authorityor employer organisation. Most educationalinstitutions, authorities and employerorganisations keep relevant records and willreissue these documents if requested. In somecircumstances, VETASSESS will accept astatutory declaration or other sworn affidavitin place of the required documents butassessment cannot be issued on the basis ofstatutory declarations only. If you cannotobtain the required documents, contactVETASSESS for advice.
Your assessment will not begin until all yourdocumentation is received. If missingdocuments are not received within fourmonths of receipt of a letter from VETASSESSrequesting documentation, your applicationwill expire. You must then submit a newapplication and pay another application fee.
Certification
All documents must be certified as a truecopy of the original by a person who isauthorised to certify documents in yourcountry of residence. In many countriespeople such as lawyers, Justices of the Peaceand Public Notaries (among others) areauthorised to certify documents.
Each copy of the document must be certifiedseparately and must show clearly:• the words ‘certified true copy of the
original’• the original signature of the certifying
officer• the name and address or provider/
registration number (where appropriate)of the certifying officer legibly printedbelow the signature so that VETASSESS cancontact the certifying officer if necessary.
VETASSESS does not accept:• photocopies of certified copies• certification by a company rather than the
individual within the company who isauthorised to certify documents
• certification where the identity of thecertifying officer is unclear or the certifier’scontact details are illegible.
Agents

This section deals with your nominatedoccupation and reason for assessment.
Choose your occupation carefully. Makesure that you read the description ofthis occupation thoroughly and thatyou meet all requirements.
1.1 This is the title of the occupation thatyou nominated for your Skills Assess-ment. It should also be an occupationon a relevant Schedule of the SkilledOccupation List for the General SkilledMigration Program (GSM) on theDepartment of Immigration andCit izenship (DIAC) website atwww.immi.gov.au/skilled/sol/
Your nominated occupation for thePoints Test Advisory Letter shouldmatch your nominated occupation onyour VETASSESS Skills Assessment.
1.2 Each occupation on the DIAC's SkilledOccupation Lists has an ANZSCO code.You will find the ANZSCO code foryour occupation on the SkilledOccupation Lists on the DIAC websiteat www.immi.gov.au/skilled/sol/
If your VETASSESS Skills Assessmentwas issued for an occupation code inthe previous Australian StandardClassification of Occupations (ASCO),you will need to nominate thecorresponding ANZSCO code for thisapplication. See the DIAC website forthe ASCO to ANZSCO correspondencecodes.
1.3 Only use this form if you have beenissued a Skills Assessment fromVETASSESS, or have a pending SkillsAssessment and now need a Points TestAdvisory Letter.

VETASSESS will assess your highestqualification up to postgraduatedoctoral degree level unless you requestanother qualification to be assessed forPoints Test purposes. For Points Testpurposes, VETASSESS will consider anyAustralian or overseas employmentundertaken during the last 10 years toprovide an opinion on whether it isclosely related to the nominatedoccupation. 3. Authorising an agent
Complete this section if you wish toappoint an agent to communicate withVETASSESS on your behalf. Please notethat all correspondence will be sent toyour agent. Go to Section 4 if you do notwish to appoint an agent.
Fill this area in if you know the nameof the person who will be your agentfor your application for a VETASSESSSkills Assessment. If you do not knowthe agent’s name, the company namewill be sufficient. This section is about your school yearsup until you began tertiary or highereducation.
4.1 Write the start and finish dates (monthand year only), and the total numberof years that you attended primaryschool . Pr imary school ing (orelementary schooling) usually refers tothe first six to eight years of compulsoryschooling. It may also include acompulsory kindergarten year. Thenumber of years of primary educationvaries with different school systems.
4.2 List the country or countries in whichyou completed these years of schooling.
4.3 Write the year when you completedprimary schooling.
4.4 Write the start and finish dates (monthand year only), and the total numberof years that you attended secondaryschool. In some countries ‘secondaryschooling’ may vary between four toeight years following primary schooling.Include any upper secondary or seniorsecondary schooling you havecompleted.
4.5 List the country or countries in whichyou completed these years ofschooling.
4.6 Write the name of the highest (eithersecondary school or upper secondaryschool) certificate you obtained –in your language and translated intoEnglish.
4.7 Write the year when you completedthat certificate.
5. Your post-secondary education
Unless you complete this sectionVETASSESS will list the qualificationassessed for your Skills Assessment onthe Advisory Letter for Points Testpurposes (provided that you pay therelevant fee). Only complete this sectionif you have another qualification youwant considered for assessment at ahigher level to support your claim forqualification points in the GSM PointsTest. Note: This assessment is not anassessment for Australian study pointswhich DIAC determines.
This section covers your education aftersecondary schooling. Fill in eachqualification separately. If you have morethan two qualifications, provide detailsof any additional qualifications in thesame format on a separate piece ofpaper. Sign and date this piece of paperand attach it to your application form.
List your highest qualification first andany underpinning qualifications. Thequalification assessment for Points Testpurposes will determine the generaleducational level of your qualificationin terms of a qualification level on theAustralian Qualification Framework. Anassessment of the relevance of the majorarea of study to the nominatedoccupation is not required. In some casesVETASSESS may need to consider two ormore overseas qualifications todetermine their comparability to theeducational level of a qualification onthe Australian Qualification Framework(AQF).
5.1 Fill this section in if you know whatyour student registration number was.
5.2 Write the title of your qualification inEnglish.
5.3 Write the name of your qualification inthe original language, if it was awardedin a language other than English.
5.4 Name the awarding body. This is theorganisation that awarded yourqualification and it will be written onyour qualification. This may be differentto the campus of study.
5.5 Write the full address of the awardingbody.
5.6 Write the name of the campus that youattended.
5.7 Write the name of the institution youattended, if this institution was not theawarding body.
5.8 List the normal entry requirements foryour course or the name of theexamination that you had to completeto gain entry. Give the name of anyeducational qualification normallyrequired for admission to this course.

5.10 Write the normal length of thisqualification (years or semesters) if itwas studied full-time. Include any timerequired for a thesis, project, practicaltraining etc.

6. Your employment
This section is about your employmentcompleted anytime in the ten years upto the date of lodgement of yourapplication to VETASSESS for an AdvisoryLetter for Points Test purposes. If you donot complete this section, the VETASSESSAdvisory Letter for DIAC for Points Testpurposes will list any employmentpositions positively assessed on yourVETASSESS Skills Assessment providedthat you pay the relevant fee. Onlycomplete this section if you haveaddit ional posit ions you wantconsidered for Points Test purposes or ifthe last date of your most recentemployment on your Skills Assessmenthas changed. For relevant fees, seeSection 6 of this application form.
Only paid employment which is closelyrelated to your nominated occupationand at an appropriate skill level for yournominated occupation will be consideredfor the Points Test Advisory Letter.You may describe other employment inyour CV/résumé.
For the optional Points Test advice toDIAC, VETASSESS applies DIAC’s definitionof “closely related employment” to thenominated occupation. DIAC definesclosely related employment as paidemployment of at least 40 hours perfortnight in an occupation which hasthe same skill level and draws on asimilar skill set and subject matter asthe nominated occupation. Usuallyclosely related employment is in anoccupation which is in the same UnitGroup of ANZSCO as the nominatedoccupation.

If you have worked in more than threepositions, please provide details of anyadditional employment in the sameformat on a separate piece of paper. Signand date the paper and attach it to yourapplication form.
In calculating years of paid employment,VETASSESS will count employment ofat least 40 hours per fortnight. Do notinclude weeks of less than 40 hours perfortnight even if the average hours ofyour employment was 40 hours perfortnight or more.

12. Payment of fees
This section covers the fees and how topay them. Please read it carefully.
12.1 How to pay• Fees must be paid in Australian
dollars when you submit yourapplication.
• You must pay your fees by credit card,bank cheque or bank draft, or moneyorder. You cannot pay into a VETASSESSbank account or send cash.
• VETASSESS will not be responsiblefor banking delays or for loss of cashsent with your application. Fundsmust be cleared before applicationsare processed.
If you wish to apply for a reassessment(review), reassessment (change ofnominated occupation), reissue, orappeal, you will need to complete thecorrect form, which can be downloadedfrom www.vetassess.com.au, and paythe relevant fee explained on that form.
Please note that the fee for a reissue ofa Skills Assessment letter or an AdvisoryLetter for Points Test purposes isAUD$60.00 or AUD$100.00 for both.

from your employer
This is a letter from each employer for whomyou have worked in positions related to yournominated occupation in the last five years,or in the last ten years if you require adviceto DIAC about your employment for PointsTest purposes. This Statement of Service orReference should:
show the official company or governmentd e p a r t m e nt l e t t e r h e a d o f t h eorganisation which employed you
show in the letterhead the full addressof the company, any telephone and faxnumbers, email and website addresses
be from your supervisor or the managerof the human resources department –references from colleagues at the samelevel or below are not suitable
be signed by an authorised person whosename and position is typed or stampedbelow the signature – a signature whichcannot be identified will not be accepted
and include the following information:
• the direct contact number of the personwriting the reference
• the exact period of employment• the required working hours per fortnight• whether that employment was permanent
or temporary• whether the employment was full-time
or part-time• the position(s) held• the main five (5) duties undertaken• the salary earned
Positions should not be described by generictitles (for example, research officer, publicservant) but according to the nature of theduties undertaken (for example, researchchemist, accounts clerk).
Appendix CStatutory Declaration
If you are unable to obtain a Statement ofService from your employer you shouldsubmit a Statutory Declaration. This is awritten statement declared to be true in thepresence of an authorised witness. Thisshould be verifiable and be supported byother evidence of your employment.
The Statutory Declaration – must include thefollowing details:
the full name and address of thecompany and any telephone, faxnumbers, email and website addresses
the name and position of your directsuperior and a contact number for them
details of the exact period of employmentincluding:• whether permanent or temporary• whether full-time or part-time• position(s) held - positions should not
be described by generic titles (forexample, research officer, publicservant) but according to the natureof the duties undertaken (for example,research chemist, accounts clerk)
• the main five (5) duties undertaken,and the salary earned
• The reason why you cannot obtain astatement from the employer.
Please note that a Statutory Declaration iscompulsory if you are unable to obtain astatement from your employer, and must besupplied as part of your evidence. It isimportant to note that under the StatutoryDeclarations Act 1959 a person who wilfullymakes a false statement in a statutorydeclaration is guilty of an offence and maybe fined or jailed, or both.
