Significance of Aadi Velli
Aadi Velli means the Fridays that fall during the Tamil month of Aadi (July-August) and glorifies various Goddesses. The festival marks the beginning of all festivals and is considered as an auspicious month. It also heralds the onset of the monsoons and signifies the power of the water Goddesses. Sundays, Tuesdays and especially Fridays are considered favorable to offer prayers to all Goddesses. According to Vedic astrology, in the month of Aadi, the Sun transit into the sign Cancer, which is ruled by Moon. Astronomically, the transit of Sun marks its journey towards South known as Dakshinayanam. This month is considered auspicious to worship Goddess energy, the ruler of Moon, and make spiritual progress. Performing Kala Sarpa Abhishekam during auspicious month of Aadi is very beneficial. Participating in the Kala Sarpa Abhishekam and performing the puja will help ward off any Sarpa Dosham and bestows peace and prosperity to one and all. The benefits of performing this Abhishekam and Puja are many, including, women without children are blessed with children, devotees who are not yet married are blessed with happy marriage, devotees with eye and ear problems are cured of their problems. Worship of Kala Sarpa Devata is recommended to even those devotees who do not have Sarpa Dosha for general well-being and prosperity.
