Welcome to all the international students who aspire to study in SRM University. As a reputed and owell recognized university, SRM offers you an enriching and a 360 education that focuses on

I advise you to work hard, but at the same time enjoy a varied and exciting campus life.
During your study at SRM you will experience a new and exciting set of intellectual challenges
leading to a degree that is recognized internationally as being of high value. All of our students

SRM University Welcomes youHISTORY
In 1968, Mr. T.R. Pachamuthu, the Chancellor of SRM University, laid the founding stone
for the group by establishing a school - 'Florence Nightingale Primary School' in Chennai.
In 1985, The 'SRM Engineering College' was established in Kattankulathur, near Chennai, and
soon grew into numerous SRM centers of learning.
In 1992, The 'SRM College of Nursing ' and the ‘SRM College of Pharmacy’ was
established.
In 1993, The 'SRM College of Physiotherapy', 'SRM Institute of Hotel Management' and 'SRM
Institute of Management Studies' were created.
In 1995, The 'SRM Dental College' was established.
In 1996, The 'SRM College of Occupational Therapy' was established.
In 2002, The 'SRM Dental College' was proclaimed a deemed university by the Ministry of
Human Resources and Development, Government of India and was known as SRM Institute
of Science and Technology (SRMIST).
In 2003-04, The Engineering, Para-medical and many other SRM institutions were brought
under the ambit of SRM Deemed University.
In 2004, The 'SRM School of Education' was then established under the SRMIST deemed
university.
In 2005, The 'SRM Medical College Hospital and Research Center' was established under
the SRMIST deemed university.
2006 - After few successful years, SRM became a qualified University under section 3 of
the UGC Act 1956 and was renamed from SRM institute of Science and Technology to
SRM University. With the upgraded syllabus, international teaching methods, the IAB
(International Advisory Board) SRM University's performance was unmatched by any other
private universities.
The University offers programs in Engineering, Management, Architecture, Medicine, Dental,
Nursing, Pharmacy, Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Education, Science & Humanities
leading to diploma, undergraduate, post graduate and doctoral degrees. SRM University is one
of the few universities in the country with an international network of advisors from varsities
and industries worldwide. These alliances give the university access to the latest curriculum of
global standards. The teaching models too are formulated in such a manner that the students
are made to learn through experiments and projects, rather than stick to “Chalk and Talk”.

Simply put, India is known for its history, democracy and diversity.
Being the 7th largest country, with a population of over 1.18 billion people

A large number of institutions which are known in India and abroad are
found located in the city, of which mention may be made of the
Theosophical Society, the Kalakshetra and colleges of Arts and Crafts.
The establishment of professional colleges like Engineering, Medical,
Veterinary, Law and Teaching, the location of the Indian Institute of
Technology and the establishment of Central Leather Research Institute
have added to the development of the city. Chennai is one of the leading
cities in India today from the point of view of trade and commerce,with the
fourth largest port in the country and the first to have developed a full-
fledged container terminal to international standards.
Fairs and festivals are held in the different parts of the city throughout
the year. The festival associated with Hindu temple are more than 500
in a year.
Govindaji Temple in Jaipur is around 5,000 years old. The impressive
thing about this temple is the extreme enthusiasm of the worshippers.
The mangala-arati at 5 am is an interesting experience.
The Meenakshi Temple in Madurai is a huge temple with very impressive
architecture and carvings.

Tamil Nadu, one of the main states in India, is the 11th largest and the
most urbanized state in India. Tamil Nadu, originally known as Madras state,
is located in the south-eastern part of India. The main language spoken2is obviously Tamil and it spans an area of about 130,058 km and a
population of 62,110,839. Tamil Nadu is the home to a number of temples,
pilgrim centers, beaches and more.
Chennai is the capital city of the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. Chennai is
the fourth most populous metropolitan area and the fifth most populous
city in India. Located on the Coromandel Coast of the Bay of Bengal,
Chennai city had a population of 4.34 million in the 2001 census within
the area administered by the Corporation of Chennai and an extended
Metropolitan Population of 6.5 million.
Chennai has a tropical climate, specifically a tropical wet and dry climate.
The city lies on the thermal equator and is also on the coast, which prevents
extreme variation in seasonal temperature. The weather is hot and humid

Nobel Quest @ SRMNobel Quest @ SRM is a part of our Science Education Initiative, designed to inspire the next
generation of young scientists. It is an inspirational forum where our students and researchers get
an opportunity to interact with contemporary Nobel Laureates.
The current year’s Nobel Quest @ SRM coincides with the 98th Indian Science Congress to be
hosted by SRM University. The Indian Science Congress is an annual confluence of researchers
and scientists belonging to different disciplines from around the globe sharing their knowledge
and experience.

ABET, the most respected accreditation organization in the U.S over 75 years.
The programs of MIT, Stanford and Carnegie Mellon, are ABET accredited.
Now, SRM University joined the league of MIT, Stanford and Carnegie Mellon.

Support ServicesUniversity LibraryStretching across 1,50,000 sq.ft. and four storeys high with spacious
reading areas, the University’s vast Central Library hosts a collection of
over 1,25,000 volumes as well as a large number of encyclopedias
and reference material on a variety of topics. The library also subscribes
to over 4,000 international online journals and 11,686 e-books and
maintains archives of students’ projects, thesis reports and the
proceedings of conferences. Students also have access to television, with
various informative channels like Eklavya, BBC World News, and
UGC Gyan Darshan.

The library’s digital archive maintains a collection of 11,686 e-books and
CD Roms. The infinite store of information available on the web is freely
accessible through the campus-wide Wi-Fi. A student can access the

If English is not your first language then you may need additional
language support before studying your major program or during your major
program.
The Department of English & Foreign languages of SRM University offers
a range of programs customized to equip international students with
the English language requirements for entry to an undergraduate or
postgraduate degree programs. The programs are also designed to assist
students in their adjustment to university life in India. The details of the
program, fee and other information can be obtained from OIR on request.
The university offers general orientation to all students on the inaugural
day. The respective faculties or schools will then provide information on
academic matters, central and department facilities, administrative
practices etc for the rest of the week.
The Office of the International Relations (OIR) is the first point of contact for
all international students on wide range of matters like:
• Admissions of NRI / Foreign students to various programs in the
faculties of Engineering and Technology, Medicine and allied health
sciences, and Science, Arts and Humanities
• Facilitating the accommodation and other needs of the International
students and faculty staying in the campus
• Student exchange and faculty exchange programs
• Counseling on personal, academic and financial matters
• Advisement on immigration matters
• Programs for social and cultural exchange
• Information about international employment and
• Need-based English classes for the international students
Gym, Yoga and Counseling:
SRM also places utmost importance to a healthy body of the students.
State-of-the-art gymnasia (separate for men and women) and yoga
are taught by qualified trainer ensuring the right physique. Qualified
psychologist work closely with the student mentoring office to provide
counseling to students on problems concerning academic stress,
mental stress, addiction and other personal problems.
Meet and Greet
Health and counseling
The OIR organizes airport pickup for those students who request
such facility. Students who wish to avail this facility have to pay the
“Meet and Greet package” fee at the time of paying the tuition fee.
This fee is non-refundable, non-transferable under any circumstances.
Also the students have to intimate their itinerary atleast a week in
advance to the OIR; otherwise the OIR will not be responsible for any
lapse in the airport pickup. The arriving students will be picked up by
their senior international students studying at SRM and will assist
them till they get into the hostel room.
Health Insurance:
1. SRM University has got its own Medical College and multi-specialty
hospital inside the campus. It is just 500 meters from the SRM
International Hostel. 24 x 7 emergency service is available at SRM
Hospital with Ambulance facility. Students can avail the medical
facilities in the hospital at concessional charges.
2. Besides the hospital, Office of International Relations (OIR) has
made arrangements with few private and public insurance
companies for obtaining health insurance policy. These policies
are for cashless hospitalization for a nominal annual premium
charged to the students. The international students must apply
for the health insurance policy with any one of these companies
within a week of their arrival to SRM University.
3. Any student who already carries equivalent medical insurance
coverage may apply to OIR for a waiver instead of purchasing
this insurance; such students should be prepared to pay in
advance for any medical care and seek reimbursement from
their insurer.

FacilitiesAccommodation
Hostel:
The University will provide accommodation in “International Hostel”strictly on “first come first serve” basis, to the students seeking admission under the international students/ NRIs category. This 6615 sq m hostelhas 93 rooms, each having an area of 20 sq m. Since the availability of accommodation in International Hostel is limited, the University can arrange for accommodation in Domestic Hostels of the University and theapplicable fees will be collected from the students. There are separatehostels for men and women on the campus, with all the necessaryfacilities. All the hostels are well-equipped, with adequate ventilation and lighting facility. Each student is provided with a cot, chair, a table and a cupboard. There are rooms with attached bath or common bath facilities.Air-conditioned rooms can be provided based on availability. Geysers are provided as common facility in domestic hostels and as individual facilityin International hostels. Generally rooms are twin shared.
Food:
The 7-day meal is integral with the housing package and cannot bedemanded separately. Domestic Hostel provides delicious south Indian cuisines, North Indian cuisines with option for vegetarian or non-vegetarian food. International hostel provides western, continental and Chinesecuisines. Students are prohibited to cook their own food inside the hostel room.

The University funds 3 major annual events viz., SHURU, MILAN and AARUSH.
All the 3 events are fully organized by the students themselves.
The SHURU is a function organized by the senior students to welcome
the freshmen. This festival provides a platform to make friends with the
senior students. This is usually held in August.
The AARUSH is related to technical. It helps in bringing out the student's
latent expertise in their technical fields of interest. This is usually held in
September first week.
MILAN is a cultural festival held for 3 days during the last week of January.
Apart from the above 3 major events, there will be year round religious
festivals like Holi-the festival of colours, Diwali-the festival of
lights,Dussehra-the festival of dolls, Sankaranthi-the harvest festival and
many more.
Cultural Activities
Banking:
Leading public and private banks operate in the university campus with
24 hour ATMs. Students are advised to open a bank account with any of
these banks as soon as they arrive in SRM campus. A 3-star hotel,
SRM Hotel, is located within the campus and offers currency conversion
facility.
SRM provides lot of opportunities for developing your sports abilities.Courts for volleyball, Basket ball, Hockey, Soccer, Cricket, Ball badminton, Track & Field are some of the facilities available in Kattankulathur campus. Many of our students are part of state teams and national teams.Inter-collegiate competitions in the above sports are a regular feature at SRM. SRM offers scholarships to students with extraordinary sports credentials like those representing National or International teams.
Kiosks, eateries, cafeterias, restaurants, food courts-all inside thecampus-provide variety of food to cater to the tastes of all nationalities.

International Student AdmissionsOffice of International Relations is a nodal point for admission to the
international students. Students from foreign countries will generally be
admitted in the beginning of the academic year. However students can
also be admitted under Exchange Program for which there should be a
Memorandum of Understanding.
Admissions are based purely on the performance in the 10 + 2 or
equivalent examination and satisfying the guidelines of the respective
councils governing the engineering, Medicine, allied health sciences,
and architecture education. The admission procedure, application form
(online as well as hard copy), fees etc are all different from those for the
domestic students. Hence take utmost care to visit the appropriate link
meant for International students. The International students need not
take the SRM Entrance Examination
i. Foreign Students: Students holding passport issued by foreign countries including people of Indian origin who have acquired the
nationality of foreign countries are included as foreign students.ii. Non Resident Indians (NRI): Only those Non Resident Indian
students who have studied and passed the qualifying examinations
(11th and 12th) from schools or colleges situated in foreign countries (even if affiliated to the Boards of Secondary Education
or Universities located in India) will be included as international students. Dependants of NRI studying in India will not be included as NRI students.
iii. NRI Sponsored student: A resident Indian student whose direct blood relative (Parents, Grandparents, direct brother or sister of parents or the candidate) committing to sponsor, has an
NRI status.
DEFINITIONS:
Once the student is admitted under this category there cannot be any change in the status during his study period even if there is a change in
the status of the sponsor.
Foreign nationals, PIO card holders, OCI (Dual citizens), NRI students,
and NRI sponsored students can apply under the category of
International students. 15% of the seats at SRM University are reserved
under this category.
Foreign nationals, PIO card holders, OCI (Dual citizens) and NRI students
get preference over NRI sponsored students.
Candidates can apply to any of the programs offered by SRM University
in any one of the three modes:a) apply online by visiting the link meant for international students
and pay an application fee of US $ 50 or INR 2,500 by credit card.
In case you encounter difficulty in payment gateway you may pay
the application fee in the form of Cheque or Demand Draft drawn
in favour of 'SRMIST'. Please quote your application number in all
your correspondences. (OR)
(b) Download the International application form. Take a print out of
this application form and send the completed application form by
post along with the requisite application fee of USD 50/- or INR
2500/- in favour of 'SRMIST' in the form of Cheque or Demand

Acknowledgement: On receipt of the completed application along with
the prescribed application fee, an application number would be allotted
and emailed to you, with a request for additional or missing information,
if any. Please quote the application number in all your correspondences
related to admissions.
Provisional Admission:
• If, based on the predicted scores / final scores, the eligibility
requirements for the program applied for have been found to be
satisfied then the provisional admission letter will be emailed with
details of tuition fee and other fees payable. This provisional
admission letter is not valid for visa purposes.
• It is very important that the students who have submitted the
predicted / forecasted results must submit the actual marks / grade
sheet of the qualifying examination as soon as it is available
• Candidates who studied in schools other than CBSE schools and
applying for MBBS/BDS must produce equivalence certificate as well
as eligibility certificate obtained from the Association of Indian
Universities (AIU), New Delhi (www.aiuweb.org) before the confirmed
admission letter is issued.
Fee Payment: The tuition, hostel/ accommodation, Registration fee and
other fees must be paid in US Dollars only by electronic transfer within
10 days from the date of receipt of the provisional admission letter
(Email). FEES REMITTED MUST BE EXCLUSIVE OF BANK CHARGES. The
university is not responsible for non-delivery of the e-mail for any

In case of violation of the dress code the student concerned will be
asked to leave the academic session. Visiting students are also expected
to observe the dress code.
It is ideal to wear casuals when outside the campus. For both ladies
and gents, western style clothing is acceptable in Chennai. In January,
February, March the climate will be pleasant. One set of formals would
be very useful during the party time, university functions and industrial
visits. Generally rainy season is from October to January. During these
rainy days, use umbrella.
Discipline:
At SRM University, international students are expected to abide by all the
rules of the University and the code of conduct as applicable to Indian
Students doing the same course. Any act within the campus that may
violate or spoil the academic atmosphere in the University will not be
appreciated and the student found guilty of such offence will be
dismissed and sent back to their country without any cost to SRM
University. The university conduct regulations include such areas as:
• Plagiarism, cheating on exams, other dishonesty
• Abuse of electronic resources
• Acts or threats involving the safety of others
• Damaging property
• Sexual or other harassment
• Abuse of alcohol or illicit drugs
• Ragging
Any complaint or reporting of misbehavior, violence, anti-social, anti-
national, unethical and immoral activities involving International
students will be dealt with in accordance with state and central laws
that are in force. SRM University will not take any responsibility for any
criminal or non-criminal acts done outside the campus, when the
students are in the rolls of the University.

The University will provide accommodation in “International Hostel” strictly on “first come first serve” basis, to the students seeking admission under the international students/ NRIs category. Since the availability of accommodation in International Hostel is limited, the University can arrange for accommodation in Domestic Hostels of the University and the applicable fees will be collected from the students. International hostel provides cot, mattress, cupboard, study table attached bath and a geyser. The students have to bring their own linen, pillows, tissue etc. The hostel fees are collected on annual basis and no prorate or concessions on the charges will be provided for late occupation of the rooms. All hostel students must strictly follow the hostel rules and regulations that are in force from time to time.
To maintain the good image of the University, you are reminded that you must be
properly attired in a manner befitting the status of university students when you
are on campus.

Immediately after effecting the wire transfer, fill up all details in the “DETAILS OF THE ELECTRONIC FUND TRANSFER " form, scan and send it to [email protected] by email. This is mandatory and very important to effect proper and timely credit. The hard copy of the form must also be sent by courier to The Principal Counseling Officer, SRM Global Consultancy FZ LLC, D01, 8th Floor, Block 10, P.O Box No. 345020, Dubai International Academic City (DIAC), Dubai, UAE, as early as possible.
Confirmed Admission: Once the full tuition fees, registration fees for the first year, and the completely filled-in “DETAILS OF THE ELECTRONIC FUND TRANSFER " form are received, the letter of confirmed admission will be sent by email. The fee has to be paid within the stipulated date and the admission will be confirmed on “First Come First Serve” basis. The admission will stand cancelled in case of failure to pay the full tuition fees within the stipulated time and SRM University cannot be held responsible for any lost opportunities or loss/damages arising thereof. The confirmed admission letter may be used by foreign students to apply for student visa, ticketing, insurance and others.
The university will send a separate communication detailing the procedure for pre-enrollment, commencement of classes and other information necessary for completing the admission formalities. Scholarship
Registration: Students are advised to reach SRM University at least 2-3 days prior to the commencement of classes and report to the Office of the International Relations to complete the admission formalities.

At the time of admission you may be required to pay, wherever applicable, additional fees towards, first year books, clinical or laboratory materials, transport etc. These additional fees should be remitted only by bank draft in Indian Rupees. Only after the admission formalities are completed, will the student be permitted to move into the allotted hostels.
Medical Certification: Within 10 days of joining SRM University, Students will have to undergo a medical examination as per government rules which stipulate that all international students entering India on student visa have to be tested for HIV/others. Students will not be given admission if found positive.
Security Registration: It is part of the normal mandatory process that within the stipulated timeframe of arrival in India, the student has to register his/ her name with the police in the Foreigner Regional Registration Office (FRRO). The timeframe may vary from 24 hours to 14 days of arrival depending on the country of origin. A student with a PIO card also must register at the FRRO. Only OCI card holders need not register. SRM would only provide necessary assistance in this regard. The applicable immigration processing fees and other related expenses have to be additionally borne by the student.
Course Change No change of course is allowed.
Examination and Award of Degree The process of examination, grading, and award of the degree is no different from that of Indian students. Each semester all students have to pay the applicable examination fees as and when announced.
SRM University has introduced few merit scholarships in the faculty of Engineering and Technology, and faculty of Science and Humanities, from the academic year 2011. Top ten candidates, from among those taken admission with SRM University, and are from the schools affiliated to CBSE will be selected for this scholarship. The scholarship amountwill be intimated to the students based on the recommendation of the Scholarship committee. This scholarship is applicable only for the first year. Subsequent year scholarships will be based on the performance of the preceding year and the recommendation of the scholarship committee.

CAMPUS LIFE:
The campus in SRM will be friendly, lively and safe. Students from all
parts of the India study and at present the students from northern part of
India outnumber the southern counterparts. Most of students talk in
English, Tamil and Hindi while the working people talk in Tamil and
English. Nearly 50% of the students stay on-campus in hostels and the
remaining outside the campus, mostly in downtown. Indian students are
very social and friendly and helping nature among student community is
all the more visible. Within the campus one can see a department store,
a 24-hour hospital, Gymnasium, Sit outs, eateries, restaurant, food
courts, Book stall, Banks and ATMs, Post Office, Money Changer, bus
shuttles, and security services. There is a huge auditorium where
weekend entertainments are made available. As the campus is well
connected with rail and road transport, students prefer to do week end
shopping and entertainment at downtown. Personal counseling available
to all students to enhance mental health, interpersonal relationships,
academic performance, and career development.
REFUND POLICY:
Refund requests will be taken up for processing only after the regular
admission process for the academic year is completed. In case the
student decides to withdraw from the program admitted and requests
for refund of the fees paid, the refund will be processed as per the
following:
First year students:Requests received prior to the commencement of first year classes:
USD 100/- will be deducted in each of the tuition fee and hostel fee and
refund made. Requests received after the commencement of first year
classes: NO refund
Second year onwards:Refund decision will be at the discretion of the university management
on case- to-case basis.
Special Note:
Any fees once paid will not be refunded under any circumstances.
