• M136 is issued as a round of ammunition rather than as a weapon.

• Should be inspected at the time of issue and before use.

Ammunition EffectsImpact The nose cone crushes; the impact sensor activates the fuze.

Ignition The piezoelectric fuze element activates the electric detonator. The booster detonates, initiating the main charge.

Penetration The main charge fires and forces the warhead body liner into a directional gas jet that penetrates armor plate.

After-Armor Effects (Spalling) The projectile fragments and incendiary effects produce blinding light and highly destructive results.

INSPECTIONRear Seal : The rear seal, a brown acrylic plastic plate inside the venturi, is in place and undamaged.

Transport Safety Pin: The transport safety pin is in place and fully inserted. The lanyard is attached to the transport safety pin and the launcher. The lanyard should already be wrapped around the launcher clockwise and the transport safety pin inserted in the retainer hole counterclockwise.

Cocking Lever: The cocking lever is present and in the SAFE (uncocked) position.

Plastic Fire-Through Muzzle Cover: The plastic fire-through muzzle cover is in place and undamaged. If it is torn or broken, cut it out and check the launch tube to ensure it is clear of foreign objects. Remove any that you find by turning the tube muzzle downward and gently shaking the launcher.

Color Coded Band: The launcher has the correct color-coded band.

Sights: The sights function properly. Open the sight covers to ensure the sights pop up and are undamaged.

Forward Safety: The forward safety does not move when you depress it.

Red Trigger Button: The red trigger button is not missing.

Launcher Body: The launcher body has no cracks, dents, or bulges.

Carrying Sling: The carrying sling is not frayed and is attached firmly to the launch tube.

Shoulder Stop: The shoulder stop is not broken or damaged, and it unsnaps and folds down.

MISFIRE PROCEDURES

MISFIRE PROCEDURES1. Immediately recock the cocking lever. !

2. aim !

3. fully depress and hold down the red safety catch, and press the red trigger button!

4. If the AT-4 still does not fire, maintain the firing position !

5. return the cocking lever to the safe position!

6. Remove the AT-4 from your shoulder and set it aside; keep the muzzle pointed towards the target !

7. Reinsert Transport Safety Pin!

8. Dispose of or destroy the faulty AT-4 according to your unit's SOP

1. Shout “MISFIRE”!

2. Release red safety latch!

3. Recock cocking lever!

4. Check backblast area!

5. fully depress and hold down the red safety catch, and press the red trigger button!

6. If AT-4 Fails to fire, repeat steps 1-5 (once)!

7. Remove AT-4 from shoulder, keep muzzle pointed towards the target!

9. Wait 2 minutes, then carefully lay on ground, muzzle toward target!

10.Dispose of AT-4 according to unit’s SOP

Question: How do you inspect the M136/AT4 launcher? Answer: Inspection is limited to a visual examination of the external components.

Question: To increase the rear sight range setting past 200 meters, in which direction do you turn the range knob? Answer: The range knob is turned clockwise (toward the muzzle) to increase range past 250 meters.

Question: In a combat situation, when the launcher fails to fire, what is the first thing the gunner must do? Answer: The gunner must immediately release the forward safety, recock the weapon, and attempt to fire again.

Question: Can a left-handed firer use the M136/AT4 launcher? Answer: The M136/AT4 launcher can only be fired effectively from the right shoulder. Left-handed soldiers must practice until it feels natural.

Question: What is the procedure for returning the cocking lever to the SAFE position? Answer: Push the cocking lever up and to the left, then pull it rearward. Once it is in the rear position, you must fold the lever down.

Question: On a slow moving target, where should the point of aim be? Answer: The point of aim should be the leading edge of the target.

Question: When should you adjust the sights on the M136 launcher? Answer: You should adjust the sights only when the range exceeds 250 meters.
