INTRODUCTION

The purpose of this document is to describe the recommended usage of the Schedules Information Standards Committee (SISC) EDIFACT Message Standards. This document contains the latest versions of all the EDIFACT message standards agreed by the Schedules Information Standards Committee (SISC). These messages are intended to facilitate the exchange of data relevant to airline schedules processing. This document was developed, and will be maintained, by the Schedules Information Standards Committee (SISC) and the IATA Secretariat. DOCUMENT STRUCTURE MESSAGE FUNCTION A definition to describe the function of the message. RULES FOR MESSAGE CONSTRUCTION Provides a high level view of the type of data that is transmitted at the various segment levels. MESSAGE BRANCHING DIAGRAM A graphical representation of the hierarchy of a message. Each diagram indicates the status of segments and segment groupings together with the maximum number of occurrences for each segment and segment grouping. EDIFACT SEGMENTS Service segments (UIH/UIT) have been extracted from the EDIFACT Application Level Syntax Rules as documented in ISO 9735 Version 4 for use within the IATA Interactive EDIFACT standard environment. The EDIFACT segments section is presented on a segment-by-segment basis. The status for inclusion of the data elements is indicated by one of the following values: M (mandatory); C (conditional); or * (not used). MESSAGE EXAMPLES Each message contains examples of the message constructed using the IATA SISC EDIFACT message specifications and EDIFACT syntax. APPENDICES Appendix A, B, C, and D lists all of the components and code sets, in alphabetical/numerical order, which constitute the IATA SISC EDIFACT message standards

CHAPTER 4 — SCHEDULE UPDATE (SKDUPD) MESSAGE

4.1 MESSAGE FUNCTION

Purpose: To transmit new schedule information for the Carrier specified in the ORG Segment of the Message. Each Message will include all Mandatory Data Elements, and may include one or more Conditional Data Elements. Each Message (UIH-UIT) contains schedule data for one, and only one, Carrier. Data for multiple Carriers may be transmitted within one Interchange (UIB-UIZ) by multiple use of Messages (UIH-UIT). Unless bilaterally agreed, when the MSD Segment of the Message states that complete new schedule information for the Carrier specified in Data Element E973 (Airline Designator)in the ORG Segment of the Message is being transmitted, each SKDUPD Message represents the complete replacement of the schedule data for the Carrier specified in Data Element E973 (Airline Designator) in the ORG Segment of the Message, for the Period of Schedule Validity specified in the HDR Segment. Unless bilaterally agreed, when the MSD Segment of the Message states that partial schedule updates or cancellations are being transmitted, each SKDUPD Message represents new, complete replacement or cancellation of the schedule data for the Flight Designator(s), Period(s) of Operation, Day(s) of Operation and Frequency Rate stated in the TRA and PER Segments of the Message. Data Element 1245 in the PER Segment of the Message is used to specify whether each change is the addition of a new flight, cancellation of an existing flight or change to the details of an existing flight. When the partial updates are specified as ad hoc in the MSD Segment of the Message, the Period of Operation specified in the PER Segment of the Message may only cover one day, for example 02JUN00 to 02JUN00. Unless bilaterally agreed, when the MSD Segment of the Message states that complete new schedule information for a flight number range is being transmitted, each SKDUPD Message represents the complete replacement of the schedule data for all flight numbers in the range specified in the HDR Segment of the Message for the Period of Schedule Validity specified in the HDR Segment. Equipment, Product, Commercial agreements, Additional service and Traffic Restriction information can appear at any one of three levels. Except where overridden by information provided at a lower level, where they appear in the TRA (transport identifier) group, they apply to the whole flight; where they appear in the PER (date/time/period/frequency) groups, they apply to the period/frequency stated; where they appear in the ODI (origin and destination) group, they apply to the journey leg or segment stated. They may appear in more than one group, in which case the higher level group may be viewed as a default which is added to, or replaced by the lower level groups. For example, if EQP states that the Aircraft Type is 747 in the TRA group and 767 for the leg stated in the ODI group, this means that the Aircraft Type is, for the period stated in the PER, 747 except for the leg stated in the ODI group, where it is 767. EQP and PDT are shown as conditional data segments, but must occur at least once, in such a way that all legs of the flight are covered. With the exception of IFT (in cases where composite element E971 is not used), information at a lower level will replace any information for the same segment appearing at a higher level. For example, data appearing in CAR (Commercial Agreements) at level 4 replaces, for the journey segment stated in the ODI at Level 3, any information contained in CAR at levels 2 or 3. Similarly, data appearing in CAR at level 3 replaces, for the period stated in the PER, any information contained in CAR at Level 2.



It is recommended that, when complete new schedule information for multiple companies is being transmitted by multiple use of Messages (UIH-UIT) within an Interchange (UIB-UIZ), the Messages be ordered according to the alphanumeric sequence of the company identification code or name. For each company, the data segments should be ordered by Flight Designator. TRA (transport identifier) information shall be stated in service number order when complete new schedule information is being transmitted for a company. PER (date/time/period/frequency) information shall be stated in date/period order when complete new schedule information is being transmitted. PRT (terminal/time) information shall be ordered according to the occurrence of the location within the complete itinerary. For example, if the complete itinerary is AAA-BBB-CCC-DDD, then the PRT information should be stated for AAA first, followed by BBB, then CCC and lastly DDD. There must be a minimum of 2 occurences of PRT for every flight. ODI (origin and destination) information shall be ordered according to the occurrence of the place of departure location within the complete itinerary. When multiple use of ODI occurs with the same place of departure location, they should appear together and be ordered according to the occurrence of the place of arrival location within the complete itinerary. For example, if the complete itinerary is AAA-BBB-CCC-DDD, then the ODI information should be stated for AAA-BBB first, followed by AAA-CCC, AAA-DDD, BBB-CCC, BBB-DDD, CCC-DDD.

The Selection Details Segments (SDT) start the, in normal cases, 2 data blocks of a TRAUPD message, containing schedule and current data. Under certain circumstances it may be useful to transmit historical data, e.g. the planned routing in case of a rerouting or diversion, an additional SDT block might be used. The first block contains only schedule data, more or less in the same format as in a SKDUPD message, the second block contains current transport service related data. Obviously, it is possible to transmit schedule data using a SKDUPD message, but when operational data are transmitted it may be useful to forward schedule and current data in one message. In the schedule block only the Segments defined in SKDUPD may be used, i.e. PRT, OPS, EQP, PDT, CAR, SER, TRF and IFT. Unlike in SKDUPD the EQP, PDT, CAR, SER, TRF and IFT Segments may only appear at the lowest level, i.e. under an ODI, not under TRA or PER. If they apply to the entire journey, they should be stated under an empty ODI Segment.

In PDT only information not altering the type of means of transport (ACV) is allowed, e.g. movable class dividers or convertible seats. PRT (terminal/time) information shall be ordered according to the occurrence of the location within the complete itinerary. For example, if the complete itinerary is AAA-BBB-CCC-DDD, then the PRT information should be stated for AAA first, followed by BBB, then CCC and lastly DDD. ODI (origin and destination) information shall be ordered in a way that information applicable to the complete service appears first, then information applicable to departure and arrival locations in their appropriate order. Finally information applicable to segments or legs shall be ordered according to the occurrence of the place of departure location within the complete itinerary. When multiple use of ODI occurs with the same place of departure location, they should appear together and be ordered according to the occurrence of the place of arrival location within the complete itinerary. A specific ODI must not be used more than once.
