x Without examining spellings, punctuation marks, lines as found in the text book, full marks is beingawarded for quote from memory.

x With regard to long answer questions based on the text and composition questions, without lookinginto the language and facts full marks is being awarded for those questions, 40% meant forlanguage 60% meant for comprehension.

x With regard to transformation sentences the candidate might have written one or two mistakes, theexaminer if gives 50% marks. It is wrong. The answer should be according to key answer given.

x Words that are used in key answer may not be produced by the candidate in the answer script. Butthe answer will same meaning with other words. Sometimes marks will not be awarded for thisanswer give decision. Which is wrong.

x Though there is plenty of time to read the answer valuators value the answer scripts in a hurry. Thisleads to erratic valuation. This could be avoided by valuating the answer scripts leisurely &carefully.

The following are the instructions to the Examiners.x In case of multiple choice, fill in the blanks and matching questions, examiners are not watching

properly. But in a hurry marks are not given for correct answers also.

x If the candidate writes a word answer in the space provided in question cum answer booklet, examiner is not giving marks for this word answer. But they expect alphabetical letter to be writtenin the space.

For example: who was the toughest batsman that chandrashekar had to bowl against?

    Ans: Ken Barrington.

If the Candidate writes a word answer marks should be given.

x For comprehension questions, value points should be underlined correctly. If the candidate writesall required value points with grammatically correct sentences, should be given full marks. Supposehe writes only one value point 1 mark is to be given if it is short answer question (2 marks).

  • 51

x Regarding Quote from memory question the candidate may write the correct sentences as in textbook with correct punctuations is to be given full marks. Suppose if the spelling mistakes are found, marks are to be cut. Read the Poem correctly and then give marks.

x For extract questions certain questions like:

Who is the I ? or Who does it refer to ?

If the candidate writes a word answer, then the examiner should give full marks.

x For long answer and composition questions.

If the Candidate writes long answer questions based on the text and also composition questionswith grammatically correct sentences with relavant points. Then full marks can be given.

x With regard to transformation of sentences, the candidate has to write the correct sentence. Evenif there is one mistake the candidate should not be given mark.

For example: use the word weak first as noun and then as an adjective.Weak (n) Weakness is death (adj) Radha suffers from a Weak Heart.Suppose the candidate writes like the above answer, full marks are to be given. If he/she writesgrammatically incorrect sentences, marks should not be given.

x With regard to unfamiliar Passage, if the candidate answer in a word and if it is correct, then fullmark can be given.

For example: Pickout the word from the passage which means _______________

x Some bright candidates may write answers, might have used some other words or sentences whichmay not be found in key answers, if the answer is meaningful or apt, mark should be given.

x Limited Answer scripts are given. Examiners are requested to read answers carefully, mark thevalue points on the answer scripts, then they must be given marks.

SOCIAL SCIENCEThe mistakes we tend to do during the valuation work are :

    a) we ignore the serial no. of questions which changes in the different papers and as the mind is tunedfor the answers we are prone for ignoring the serial no. for ex 1. the father of Indian renaissanceis _______________ 2. the mineral which is known as black diamond is _______________3. India has the monopoly over the production of the mineral _______________ (the serial of theanswers are a) Rajaram Mohan Roy.b)Coal. c)Mica ) we are used for these three words but thestudents paper might have had jumbled questions where the 2nd question would be the first and the3rd would be the 2nd the 1st as the last but the student might have written in the same order of theanswer given in the scheme, for which we may award marks or vise verse

    b) Some times the student might have written the answer in his own words where as the scheme maynot posses such words but the meaning would be the same for ex. Raja Ram Mohan Roy is knownas the father of Indian Renaissance because he was the first person to fight against superstitiousbeliefs { the student might have written he was called so for he was the pioneer in thereforms} the valuater may not award the marks for those words are not in the scheme.

    c) The examiner should understand the points, what the student has come out with and then value thepaper. Many a times the student might have clubbed number of points in one sentence, but hewould be awarded one mark instead of two.

    d) All these mistakes are prone in English Medium papers only for some of them who value are notwell versed in English

    e) In the maps many a time the student would have not marked the places properly for which themarks are allotted full, some times even though the student has marked properly he is not awardedfull.

    f) The order of points may also change but the examiner should not stick on to the same order of thescheme.

    g) Many a times they would not have alloted the marks even if they have valued the answer.

    h) Alloting the marks blindly 1 for 2, 1 for 3, 2 for 4 marks Question. Even if the answer points arecorrect.

    i) There may be 12- 14 points for some Question of 4 marks where in about 8 points only are in xxxxorder, not in the order of the text book or scheme points.
