Calling all writers! The Fiction Forge wants you! The Fiction Forge will meet on the 1

rd Thursday each month.

This new writers’ workshop for adults is led by Brad Carter, Library Information Assistant and published author.

September is Library Card Sign-Up Month! We encourage everyone to visit the Springdale Public Library and celebrate Library Card Sign-Up Month by registering for the most important school supply of all - a library card.

During the month of September, anyone who gets a new library card or updates their contact information will receive one coupon good for one selection from Friends of the Library Annual Fall Book Sale. New / updated patrons’ names will also be entered into a raffle for a free signed copy of a book by a local Northwest Arkansas author!

Annual Fall Book Sale The Friends of the Library will hold its annual Book Sale

Thursday Oct. 25 through Saturday Oct. 27, from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. Current Friends members receive 1/2 off all bookstore and book sale purchases. Call us at 479-750-8180 to check the status of your membership!

The Library Book Store will be closed during October to build up inventory for the sale. Donations will continue to be accepted.

Book Fair

During the Book Sale, the Library will host its first Northwest Arkansas Author Book Fair on Saturday, Oct. 27, 2:00—4:00 pm. Stop by the Library and meet some of the talented authors who call Northwest Arkansas home! We will announce participating authors on the Library’s website at www.springdalelibrary.org

Please note that the Friends discount does not apply to any items purchased directly from authors at the Book Fair.

Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month with Author Pat Mora The Springdale Public Library will celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month on Oct. 11, 4:00—6:00 pm, with a special Spanish Story Time for Families (Page 3) featuring author Pat Mora.

The Springdale Public Library has partnered with the University of Arkansas Office of Latino Academic Advancement to host one of a series of three presentations by Ms. Mora in celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month.

A former teacher, university administrator, consultant and award-winning author of more than forty works of poetry, nonfiction, and children's

literature, Pat Mora is also the founder of the family literacy initiative El día de los niños / El día de los libros (Children's Day / Book Day).

Stories are told and re-told

Adults are not required to attend school-age programs; however, an adult must stay with children who are 7 years old and under at all times while in the Library.

Hispanic Heritage Month is observed from Sept. 15 through Oct. 15. This national initiative celebrates the histories, cultures, and contributions of American citizens of Spanish, Mexican, Caribbean,

and Central and South American descent.

Sept. 22: Duct Tape Crafts It really can do everything! We’ll start by making duct tape cell phone cases, and then try our hand at more complicated creations.

Oct. 13: Teen Read Week: ―It Came from the Library‖ To celebrate Teen Read Week 2012, we’ll read and discuss the book This Dark Endeavor by Kenneth Oppel. Stop by the Library to pick up a copy—we’ll have several available by Saturday, Sept. 13.

Oct. 27: Friends of the Library Author Fair Don’t forget to visit the Springdale Public Library Author Fair from 2:00 to 4:00 pm! Several local writers and illustrators will visit the Library to sign and discuss their work.

Nov. 3: International Games Day Come celebrate International Games Day with on– and offline games, including several new board games donated by IGD sponsors.
