When Teddy Matthews moves to Richmond, WA, he knows something is wrong. Every kid he meets seems to disappear before his eyes. As Teddy investigates, he finds all signs lead to a giant sycamore tree that is horribly mutilated by nuclear waste. The tree hungers for the life source of young boys, and now that Teddy is in town, it has found its next victim.

August Pullman was born with a facial deformity that, up until now, has prevented him from going to a mainstream school. Starting 5th grade at Beecher Prep, he wants nothing more than to be treated as an ordinary kid--but his new classmates can't get past Auggie's extraordinary face.
