Description

In many countr ies p ipel ines cross ing or running para l le l to h ighways and rai lways sha l l be protected by cas ing. Spacers are used in order to separate the carr ier p ipel ine f rom the cas ing. Rac i cas ing Spacers iso late water, sewer and gas p ipel ines f rom cas ing s imply and ef fect ively . Insu lators are required to separate cas ing and carr ier p ipes according to the fo l lowing requirements:

□ Must ensure e lec tr ical insu lat ion between the carr ier p ipe and the cas ing p ipe;

□ Must guarantee an easy inser t ion of the carr ier into the cas ing p ipe preventing damage of carr ier p ipe coat ing;

□ Must permit to be t ight ly

fastened onto carr ier p ipes in order to avoid hor izonta l movements dur ing inser t ion;

□ Must be made of mater ia l which does not conduct e lec tr ic i ty and which ensures permanent res istance to chemica l corros ion;

□ Must be res istant to mechanical and thermal shocks and stresses, part icular ly those that occur dur ing both the instal la t ion and the inser t ing operat ion.

Characteristics

□ Spacers are manufactured ent ire ly out of high density polyethy lene (HDPE). No metal bo lts or at tachments are required;

□ The modular system which permits to compose insu lator r ings a l lows spacers to be used on a wide p ipe d iameter range therefore reducing inventory

costs;

□ Spacers are quick ly and easi ly assembled by manual ly f i t t ing e lements one into the other .

□ The tooth inser t ion method al lows on s i te adjustments to f i t a wide range of p ipe d iameters;

□ A low fr ict ion coef f ic ient guarantees an easy insert ion into the cas ing;

□ Spacers are designed and tested to mainta in continuous and long term support for the car r ier p ipe and i ts contents;

□ Spacers provide a constant project ion around the ent ire c ircumference of the carr ier p ipe;

□ Spacers provide long term protect ion f rom corros ion;

□ Spacers can be instal led on steel-coated p ipes , concrete p ipes , duct i le i ron p ipes or p last ic p ipes.

Al l Rac i tes ts are carr ied out in our interna l laboratory according to the UNI EN 527 standard. For each product ion batch, we test 10 specimens which ver i fy compl iance to our standards (see TABLE A). When mechanica l character is t ics are sat is f ied , we guarantee the product ion of the spec if ic batch by marking every e lements wi th the corresponding batch number . Th is a l lows to t race the s tory of each e lement. Dur ing the product ion phase, al l p ieces are tested according to the ir project ’s drawing. Before packaging, v isua l inspect ion ensures that the overal l qual i ty reaches our standards. RACI qual i ty dept . a lso provide sample-surveys by insta l l ing a few elements on a p ipe and check ing them through an ageing test which is carr ied out in the c l imat ic chamber. Th is test wi l l las t for 15 days. The temperature excurs ion range wi l l be f rom -20° C to +80° C.

After th is tes t, samples wi l l be checked against creep or any other damage.

Rings and elements number calculation

The exact number of e lements , N2 , comes f rom the fo l lowing formula:

N2 - required r ings L - cross ing length I - spacing as per table B N1 - e lements to make one insu lator as per table B The to ta l number of e lements for each cross ing Ntot is:

Required quantity of self amalgamating tape (m) - table E

In case of p last ic carr ie r p ipe (PVC, PE and s imi lar) , i t is suggested to tape the contact area between the r ing insu lator and the carr ier p ipe: th is precaut ion wi l l avoid any hor izontal s l id ing of the r ings on the carr ier p ipe dur ing the insert ing operat ions . The fo l lowing table resumes the required quant ity of tape for each insulat ing r ing referred to the d i f ferent p ipe s ize .

Please note that the above quanti t ies concern ing tape consumpt ion are calculated cons ider ing ro l ls he ight 100 mm.

Assembly Instructions

Assemble the insu lator r ing as shown in the above pictures leaving the r ing open at the ends. Dur ing th is procedure do not insert one end of each segment over the second sect ion of the guide of the other end (deta i l A) .

Ntot = N1 x N2

N2 = L/I + 3

Complete the insulator r ing by wrapping the r ing around the p ipe and c lose manual ly the two remaining ends. Aga in, do not inser t the two ends over the second sect ion of the guide, in order to make sure that at th is s tage the bel t is not too t ight on the p ipe. Start to t ighten the r ing us ing the appropr iate tool. Make sure that for every jo int at least the end of the th ird sect ion of the guide has been reached (OK).

Continuous ly proceed to t ighten the insu lator r ing in order to guarantee, that the number of f ix ing teeth engaged is as homogeneous as poss ib le on al l jo ints . Do not use any lever extens ions to increase the torque because th is could lead to some damages of the tool. The tool is des igned in order to guarantee an appropr iate fas tening by us ing the or ig inal lever only. For p ipes with a very smooth external sur face (PVC-PE or s imi lar ), in order to avoid the s l id ing of the r ings a long the p ipe l ine axe dur ing pul l ing the carr ier p ipe into the cas ing p ipe, we recommend to increase the f r ict ion rate by wrapping some butyl rubber tape around the p ipe in correspondence of every insulator r ing . Apply the tape onto the p ipe surface where the insulator r ing wi l l be p laced. In case of need of more than one layer of tape to cover the entire width of the insu lator r ing, remove the protect ive f i lm whi le wrapping it around the p ipe by over lapping i t by 50%. We recommend not removing the protect ive f i lm from the last layer which f ina l ly is in contact w ith the insulator r ing in order to avoid a reduct ion of the adhes ion by possib le pol lut ion (dust , ra in, etc .) . The assembl ing procedure of the insulator r ings i tse l f is the same as descr ibed in point 1 – 4. Only before the f ina l t ightening (point 5) remove the protect ing f i lm. Our technical serv ice is at your d isposa l for any possib le ass istance.
