THINK GREEN

Have you ever asked

yourself why so many of us

are sick? The film,

“Unacceptable Levels”,

examines the results of the

chemical revolution of

1940’s. This film

challenges us to do

something about a nearly

unseen threat that is making us sick. This film will

be shown at the Dominican Film Festival, on

Wednesday, July 12th from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at the

Dominican Sisters Motherhouse at 1 Ryerson Ave.,

Caldwell, NJ.

The Green Team

July 9, 2017

Dear Parishioners,

The last part of this Sunday’s Gospel from

Matthew seems to fit perfectly with this time of

year:

“Come to me, all you who labor and are

burdened, and I will give you rest.”

For most of us, summer offers time to put

down our burdens and take time for rest. Jesus

seems to know our very human need for relaxation

and vacation. The Gospel does challenge us to

use some of this time to become closer to Him

“Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am

meek and humble of heart…”.

Naturally prayer is one way of doing this.

However, I would like to suggest another:

STUDY! Discipleship calls us to be continuous

learners. Make part of this summer’s R and R the

reading of an informative Catholic book (see the

selections in our Church’s vestibule), or Google

Loyola Press for a wide selection of reading

materials, or the biography of our Catholic saints

or saintly Catholics (Dorothy Day, Oscar Romero,

Mother Theresa) or read Pope Francis’ encyclical

on the environment, “Laudato Si”, on Care for our

Common Home, and lastly, watch Bishop Barron’s

presentations on YouTube. The sources of inspir-

ing Catholic reading are endless.

How would we be different by Labor Day

weekend, if each day we did some studying about

our Catholic Faith!

Peace,

Sister Alice

Sr. Justine Pinto, Marian Manor

Stewardship Reflection

“For my yoke is easy, and my burden light.” - Matthew

11:30

When we think of being good stewards, we may think that

God is asking too much of us when He calls us to gener-

ously share our time, talent and treasure. However, we

must remember that we are not “owners” of anything, we

are merely “stewards” of the gifts God has given us. All

He is asking is that we give back a small portion of what

He has already given to us.

St. Aloysius Vacation Bible Camp!

This year’s St. Aloysius Vacation Bible Camp – “Maker Fun Factory: Created by God, Built for a Purpose” – was AWESOME! The children had an ex-citing, faith-filled, God-centered Catholic Vacation Bi-ble Camp experience. Every day was packed with fun activities designed to help kids experience the im-portance of faith sharing. The daily themes, intro-duced each day, were: • God made you! • God is for you! He will

always support you! • God is always with you! • God will always love you! • God made you for a

reason! The children really enjoyed these themes as they were incorporated into interesting bible stories, crea-tive crafts, faith-centered science projects, songs, gym activities and even the snacks!

The children donated school supplies and money to the Dominican Sister’s mission in San Jose, Dominican Republic (Centro Espíritu Santo). The campers learned that they need to support others the way God supports them.

At the end of each day, parents joined us in the gym to watch that day’s themed music video featuring the children and hear the children sing and dance to the songs they learned. Each child received a MAKER FUN FACTORY Songs CD, a MAKER FUN FACTORY T-shirt, MAKER FUN FACTORY Bible Buddies, a pouch, a framed picture of themselves on their MAKER FUN FACTORY adventure and themed snacks each day!

After the session on Thursday, staff, volunteers, campers and family members celebrated the camp experience with a picnic of tasty grilled hot dogs, delicious desserts, and MAKER FUN FACTORY music. Thank you to all who brought in desserts and assisted with the celebration and cleanup!

Finally, a heartfelt THANK YOU goes out to all the fantastic activity leaders and aides, group leaders and aides, youth aides, nurses, the St. Aloysius parish staff, the Trinity Academy maintenance staff, our Pastor, Msgr. Desmond, along with Fr. JJ and Fr. Jose who joined us throughout the week, and all our volunteers and donors who made MAKER FUN FACTORY possible and a big success. !

We MUST also extend a special and huge THANK YOU to Lynda Vincenti and Marianne Autorino for their dedication and countless hours of hard work plan-ning and leading the VBC. We are so grateful God made each one of you! Thank you all for being great examples to the children and the parish community by answering Christ’s call to evangelize through the way you live and share your faith every day, relying on God’s plan for each of us! Have a joy-filled summer listening to the VBC Songs (ask a VBC Camper to sing one for you)! See you in church. Mrs. Jackie Alworth & Mr. Ed Karpinski
