When one is in the twenties, to think that one day they might reach seventy (or be- yond) seems far-fetched and a matter about which you need not worry. The closer one gets to seventy, the more you begin to realize that the twilight years of life are almost staring you in the face! And, the more you discover that some things you once easily accomplished are now difficult, if not down-right impossible to achieve alone. Its humbling to come to the conclusion that you either need to leave something for another dayor take the time to ask for some help. The latter approach makes the challenge easier; the former will not make it go away, no matter how hard you might try. The older I get, the more I am learning that with the assistance of one another, we can reach goals that once seemed unsurmountable. Being willing to ask for the companionship of another can make any mountain easier to climb and bring to completion the impossible dream. Thank-you to all those who have helped me realize that gift. May God continue to bless us as we seek ways in which to bless one another. Dear Sisters and Brothers in the Lord:

My healing process from the brain surgery is coming to its completion. Thanks be to God for the myriad Prayers, Spiritual Bouquets and Masses that various parishioners had offered for me in my recovery.

It became far too difficult to try and write personal notes to everyone. By the time I may have finished six or eight of them, at least a dozen new ones would arrive in the daily mail! I am overwhelmed by the sincerity and number of personal notes that came to me. Thank-you, each and every one of you for taking the time to

find, write within and mail to me the cards and greetings that came my way. When a veterinary doctor can take the time to write a note of thoughtfulness and assurance of prayers for a good recovery—one cannot claim to have been forgotten!

And now I need to prepare us all for the upcoming departure that I have been given by the Bishop’s

Office to a new assignment for ministry in Kokomo. Some have asked if I am ready to make a move “at my age” and why I haven’t considered retirement instead. My answer to that is twofold. First, I don’t think sev-enty years is too old. When one is in the twenties, to think that one day they might reach seventy (or be-

yond) seems far-fetched and a matter about which you need not worry. The closer one gets to seventy, the more you begin to realize that the twilight years of life are almost staring you in the face! And, the more you discover that some things you once easily accomplished are now difficult, if not down-right impossible to

achieve alone. It’s humbling to come to the conclusion that you either need to leave something for “another day” or take the time to ask for some help. The latter approach makes the challenge easier; the former will not make it go away, no matter how hard you might try.

The older I get, the more I am learning that with the assistance of one another, we can reach goals that once seemed unsurmountable. Being willing to ask for the companionship of another can make any

mountain easier to climb and bring to completion the impossible dream. Thank-you to all those who have helped me realize that gift. May God continue to bless us as we seek ways in which to bless one another.

Peace be with you, Monsignor
