From Fr. Joe… Be sure to congratulate our two new acolytes, Brent Charland and Nick Haas! You’ll be seeing more of them in the sanctuary during these next few months. And keep them in your prayers as they complete their preparations to be, God willing, ordained as Permanent Deacons in October. As I type this, there are only a few books left for our Bible Basics for Catholics program during Lent (and by the time you read this, I’m quite confident they will be all gone). Fr. Scott and I look forward to delving more deeply into Sacred Scripture with you during this holy season.
As I likewise mentioned a few weeks back concerning Extraordi-nary Ministers of Holy Communion, this Wednesday’s training session for Lectors isn’t meant only for those who are new to the ministry, but can also serve as a great refresher for those who already read at Mass. CHRISTIAN FORMATION LENTEN RETREAT FOR YOUTH: Open to all students in grades 6-12. Lent is a great time to re fresh the soul, and the Diocesan Youth Council is providing an opportunity to do this. The retreat will be held at the Notre Dame Parish Center on March 25, from 10:30 - 5:00 p.m. The event is free, but participants must pre-register and bring a bagged lunch. GIRLS NIGHT: All teen girls are invited to the Notre Dame parish center on March 9th from 6:30 to 8:30 for our monthly girls' night to enjoy time with our sisters and grow in a deeper appreciation of our identity as daughters of God. 2017 High School Youth Rally with Paul Kim The 2017 High School Youth Rally will be held on May 6 at IHC in Watertown. This full-day event will feature keynote speaker Paul J. Kim, prayer, interactive workshops, games, and Mass pre-sided by Bishop LaValley. The cost to attend is $25 before April 1, $30 after April 1. Knights of Columbus - Chicken & Biscuit Dinner The Malone Council 308 of the Knights of Columbus will be hosting their annual Lenten Chicken and Biscuit dinners on March 8th and March 22nd. The dinners will be served from 4:30pm to 6:30 pm. The cost of the dinners is $8.50 per person, $5 for children 6-12, and children under 5 free. Take out orders will be available. Progressive Bingo - Pull Tabs - Concession St. Andre’s Bessette Rosary Society Will be holding a meeting on March 14th at 7pm at Notre Dame Parish Center. Dues for 2017 are $8.00 and will be collected at the meeting. You can also mail it to Rhea Ritchings, 138 Webster St., Malone, 12953 or put it in the regular collection basket in an envelope marked ―Rosary Society‖. New members are welcome to join us. Plans for Spring functions will be discussed.
CHECK OUT THE MEDIA RACKS: The media racks in all our churches have been refreshed in recent days in anticipation of Lent. Please take a look as there have been some changes. The March periodicals have arrived and have placed in the racks. New audio CDs on a variety of topics have also been distributed at all the churches in the familiar kiosks. If you are looking for something new and different to increase your knowledge of the faith or to deepen your faith itself, these are great resources to assist you. The racks at Notre Dame are in the chapel and adjacent to the stairway to the choir loft by the Baptismal font. At St. John Bosco there is a rack in the vestibule and under the stairway to the choir loft. At St. Helen’s the rack is apparent on your right as you enter the church doors.

Sacrament of Baptism Parents who wish to have a child baptized should contact Rev. Joseph Giroux to make arrangements for the date and for a program of preparation. Parents are highly encour-aged to make arrangements at least three months before the child is born, as the Catholic Church encourages Baptism for infants as soon as possible after birth. Adults and older children (seven years or older) interested in Baptism or en-tering into full communion with the Catholic Church should inquire about the program of preparation (R.C.I.A.: the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults). Sacrament of Matrimony A Catholic wishing to be married in one of our churches should contact one of the priests at least six months prior to the desired date in order to begin making arrangements. A program of preparation is required. The parish should be contacted before any other plans are made—for example, the wedding reception. Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick For those preparing for surgery, nursing home residents, or the homebound, contact one of the parish priests to make arrangements to be anointed. For those in the hospital (especially in the event of an emergency), ask the hospital staff to contact the priest on call.
