Welcome to St. André’s Parish! No matter who you are, where you’ve come from, or what brings you here, we’re so glad to have you with us. St. André Bessette (1845-1937) spent much of his life serving as the door-keeper of his religious community; like him, we strive to open doors for our neighbors to experience the loving mercy of God. May Jesus fill your heart with his grace and peace!

WANTED: Blessed Palms

Ash Wednesday (March 1st) will be here before you know it. The ashes used that day to mark the beginning of Lent are made by burning the branches blessed the previous year on Palm Sun-day. Please bring your blessed palms to any of our churches, where baskets will be available to collect them.

OFFICE CLOSED

The office will be closed on Monday, Feb. 20th in observance of Presidents’ Day.

From Fr. Joe… As promised, details about our 5-part course on the Bible during Lent can be found in this bulletin. Fr. Scott and I will be leading it. Programs like this have been pretty popular when we’ve of-fered them in the past, and I suspect this one will be no exception, especially since many Catholics feel like they’re lacking in com-parison to their Protestant neighbors when it comes to knowledge of the Bible. The book we’re using is great—I’ve learned quite a lot by reading it myself. Sign up now! Fr. Scott is putting together this week’s training session for Ex-traordinary Ministers of Holy Communion; one for Readers is soon to follow (March 8). These are principally for new liturgi-cal minsters (we’ve been personally inviting a bunch of parish-ioners to take up these roles), but they're also a great ―refresher‖ for those of you who already serve in these ways in the parish—so please do come, if you’re able. We’re looking for volunteers to help organize a couple of popular events that we’re putting back on the calendar: the Sugar on Snow Brunch (April 9) and a pilgrimage to St. Joseph’s Orato-ry (June 4). It takes a few willing and able souls to pull these sorts of things together for us all to enjoy. If you’re interested in helping, let me know as soon as you can. And please keep up those prayers for Frassati House! At the time I write this, we’ve already had five serious inquiries from young men and women considering being parish missionaries…and I’m sure there are more to come. Visit Fr. Joe's blog: http://fromemptyhands.blogspot.com/

BIBLE BASICS FOR CATHOLICS

This Lent, we’re offering a 5-part intro-duction to Scripture using the book, Bible Basics for Catholics: A New Picture of Salvation History, by Dr. John Bergsma, a popular professor at the Franciscan University of Steubenville. It will be offered on the Tuesdays of Lent (March 7-April 4) at 6:30pm in Notre Dame Church. To reserve your spot, register by calling (483-1300) or stopping by the parish office. Materials will be available

after Masses on February 25/26 and from the office the following week. We have a limited number of books available (suggested donation: $5). Some may already have a copy of the book (it was available on the parish media racks a few years ago), and it can be downloaded as an eBook from Amazon.com. Bibles will also be available for those who need them (suggested dona-tion: $5)

A new online 8-part faith study program based on the book of the same name by Dr. Edward Sri of the Augustine Institute. Learn how Catholic morality is all about love, how making a judg-ment is not judging a person’s soul, and how, in the words of Pope Francis, ―relativism wounds people‖ and is ―the spiritual poverty of our times.‖ To take advantage of this and other inspir-ing and informative video programs, talks, movies, and eBooks, by some of America's best Catholic teachers, just go to FORMED.org and enter our parish code: 17a76e.

Sacrament of Baptism Parents who wish to have a child baptized should contact Rev. Joseph Giroux to make arrangements for the date and for a program of preparation. Parents are highly encour-aged to make arrangements at least three months before the child is born, as the Catholic Church encourages Baptism for infants as soon as possible after birth. Adults and older children (seven years or older) interested in Baptism or en-tering into full communion with the Catholic Church should inquire about the program of preparation (R.C.I.A.: the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults). Sacrament of Matrimony A Catholic wishing to be married in one of our churches should contact one of the priests at least six months prior to the desired date in order to begin making arrangements. A program of preparation is required. The parish should be contacted before any other plans are made—for example, the wedding reception. Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick For those preparing for surgery, nursing home residents, or the homebound, contact one of the parish priests to make arrangements to be anointed. For those in the hospital (especially in the event of an emergency), ask the hospital staff to contact the priest on call.
