THE THEME My friends this year on Sun-days we will be reading from Matthew’s Gospel. One of his

important messages is that Jesus is not so much a break from the past, but a fulfillment of the past. Perhaps this is a message to consider today as we live in this ever changing fast-paced world. Let us pray to hold on to the wisdom of our ancestors in the faith, yet with minds and hearts open to hearing the voice of God now.

From Fr. Peter’s Desk Third Sunday in Ordinary Time Dear Parish Family: In our First Reading from the Book of Isaiah, the prophet preaches about dark-ness and distress being replaced by light and re-joicing. Isaiah prophesizes about the mission of Jesus when he talks about the light in a land over-shadowed by death, glorifying the road between Jewish and Gentile lands, proclaiming Good News of abundant joy and destroying the burdens of disease and illness. St. Paul, in our Second Reading, decries the divi-sion within the church in Corinth. As disciples ourselves, we have a responsibility to work for unity, for in Christ there can be no division. Jesus transcends all human leaders who could claim adherents while excluding others. Throughout his Gospel, St. Matthew reminds his audience that Jesus is the One who fulfills all the prophecies from the Old Testament regarding the one who was to come. Jesus began His mission by fulfilling the words of the great prophet Isaiah. Today we contemplate the missions that we are called to and pray that we can fulfill the plan that God has for us. May God Bless You All, Fr. Peter

STEWARDSHIP Stewardship Reflection In today’s Gospel we witness the begin-

ning of Jesus’ Galilean ministry. Previously in this chapter of Matthew, Jesus was tempted by the devil but He never gave in. As stewards, we will experience temptations, despair and setbacks but we must pray that the Holy Spirit can help us through it all! Living Stewardship This week, let us, as good stewards, remember to give some time back to God. Prayer is such an im-portant tool that we can use to help us grow closer to God. Using the time we have been given to pray is beyond important. Parish Sacrificial Giving Summary Weekly goal for 1/19/20- $6,400.00 Sunday Collection for 1/19/20-$3,964.00 Votive Candles for 1/19/20-$85.00 Faith Direct Weekly Donations -$1,380.00 Total for 1/19/20-$5,429.00

Lord, Hold these men and women in your loving hands and protect them as they protect us and bless them for their selfless acts. We pray for peace in our world and
