DEC 22, 2019 4TH SUNDAY OF ADVENT ARCHDIOCESE ANNOUNCEMENTS Prayer Chain Phone # 694-4771 Readings: Isaiah 7:1014, Psalm 24:16 Romans 1:17, Matthew 1:1824 The mystery kept secret for long ages, promised through His prophets in the holy Scriptures, is today revealed (see Romans 16:2526). This is the Gospel of Godthat Paul celebrates in todays Epistle—the good news that God is with usin Jesus Christ. The sign promised to the House of David in todays First Reading is given in todays Gospel. In the virgin found with child, God Himself has brought to Israel a sav- ior from Davids royal line (see Acts 13:2223). Son of David according to the flesh, Jesus is the Son of God, born of the Spirit. He will be anointed with the Spirit (see Acts 10:38), and by the power of Spirit will be raised from the dead and established at Gods right hand in the heavens (see Acts 2:3334; Ephesians 1:2021). He is the King of Glorywe sing of in todays Psalm. The earth in its fullness has been given to Him. And as God swore long ago to David, His Kingdom will have no end (see Psalm 89:45). In Jesus Christ we have a new crea- tion. Like the creation of the world, it is a work of the Spir- it, a blessing from the Lord (see Genesis 1:2). In Him, we are saved from our sins, are called now the beloved of God.All nations now are called to belong to Jesus Christ, to enter into the House of David and Kingdom of God, the Church. Together, through the obedience of faith, we have been made a new race—a royal people that seeks for the face of the God of Jacob. He has made our hearts clean, made us worthy to enter His holy place, to stand in His presence and serve Him. In the Eucharist, the everlasting covenant is renewed, the Advent promise of virgin with child—God with us— continues until the end of the age (see Matthew28:20; Ezekiel 37:2428) —Scott Hahn Copyright © 2019 The St. Paul Center for Biblical Theolo- gy, All rights reserved. www.stpaulcenter.com CLARE HOUSE—. Readings: Isaiah 7:10–14, Psalm 24:1–6 Romans 1:1–7, Matthew 1:18–24

The mystery kept secret for long ages, promised through His prophets in the holy Scriptures, is today revealed (see Romans 16:25–26).

This is the “Gospel of God” that Paul celebrates in today’s Epistle—the good news that “God is with us” in Jesus Christ. The sign promised to the House of David in today’s First Reading is given in today’s Gospel. In the virgin found with child, God Himself has brought to Israel a sav-ior from David’s royal line (see Acts 13:22–23).

Son of David according to the flesh, Jesus is the Son of God, born of the Spirit. He will be anointed with the Spirit (see Acts 10:38), and by the power of Spirit will be raised from the dead and established at God’s right hand in the heavens (see Acts 2:33–34; Ephesians 1:20–21). He is the “King of Glory” we sing of in today’s Psalm. The earth in its fullness has been given to Him. And as God swore long ago to David, His Kingdom will have no end (see Psalm 89:4–5). In Jesus Christ we have a new crea-tion. Like the creation of the world, it is a work of the Spir-it, a blessing from the Lord (see Genesis 1:2). In Him, we are saved from our sins, are called now “the beloved of God.” All nations now are called to belong to Jesus Christ, to enter into the House of David and Kingdom of God, the Church. Together, through the obedience of faith, we have been made a new race—a royal people that seeks for the face of the God of Jacob.

In the Eucharist, the everlasting covenant is renewed, the Advent promise of virgin with child—God with us—continues until the end of the age(see Matthew28:20; Ezekiel 37:24–28) —Scott Hahn

LADIES GROUP—The annual Ladies Retreat will be held Saturday, January 11, 2020, 10:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m., at St. Andrew Church. Fr. Michael Shields will be our guest speaker

HOMILY NOTES—The homilies for the Sundays listed below will focus on the portion of the Creed that focus on the mystery of the Incarnation, God becoming man. Conveniently, the Catechism of the Catholic Church uses the format of the Creed to present the faith. Therefore, the homilies will focus on these sections of the Catechism. Specifically, they will focus on the section of the Creed that states, “He was conceived by the Power of the Holy Spirit, and was Born of the Virgin Mary.” These sections are rich, concise and very fruitful reflections for this Advent season.

The Catechism breaks it up as follows and the homilies will be focused on (references to the Catechism):

Sunday, December 8: The Son of God Became Man (CC: 456-483)

Sunday, December 15: Conceived by the Power of the Holy Spirit and Became Man (CC: 484-511)

Sunday, December 22: The Mysteries of Christ’s Life (CC: 512-570)

RETROUVAILLE is a lifeline of hope and healing for struggling marriages. It is a three-phase program that begins with a weekend experience, followed by post-weekend presentations, and monthly small group support meetings. Retrouvaille is a Christian peer min-istry of couples helping couples with the support of caring clergy members. Though the program is Catho-lic in origin, and has a Christian-orientation, couples of all faiths or no faith background are welcomed. The primary focus is on improving communication and building a stronger marriage, so couples may redis-cover the love they have for each other. The non-profit program is available in communities worldwide. For confidential information or to register for the Retrouvaille of Alaska program beginning with a weekend retreat on Feb. 28 to Mar. 1, 2020 call 907-863-8000 or email: [email protected] or visit the web site at www.HelpOurMarriage.org

ALUMNI BASKETBALL GAME— Calling all Lumen Christi Alumni! For some after Christmas fun, please con-sider coming out to the Annual Lumen Alumni Basketball game on Saturday, December 28th. Anyone who ever at-tended the school is encouraged to come and play, regard-less if you were on the team or not! Women play at 2p and men at 4p. Bring your parents (they would love seeing you play again) and your kids (do they know you ever played?) There will be door prizes and great T shirts for the alumni players. This event is free to the public. Come & enjoy!

REPAIR UPDATE. —Shortly after the New Year work will begin on repairing the Nave. Scaffolding will be placed down the center of the Nave and around the Sanctuary. Services will be held in the South side of the Nave (choir side) and the Altar will be on the floor level in the vicinity of the choir area. Work on the 1st half should be completed by Easter. After Easter work will begin on the other half of the Nave. An update on the specifics will be posted in the Narthex soon. Repair of the Narthex is almost completed.

Please be patient with the inconveniences. This will be an opportunity to get to know those who usually sit in a different place in church. There is plenty of space for all to attend Mass.
