Generations ago you lit the fire of faith through a mission to the children of immigrants in a small stone church. SECOND WEEK OF LENT ENCOUNTER NUTRITION

We encounter Evelina in Zambia as she and other mothers in her community learn new ways to provide nutritious meals for their grow-ing children and families. How do we ensure that those who are hungry have not only food but true nourishment? Visit crsricebowl.org for more.

The Breakfast Club Sundays at 9:00am in the library-March 19th a new study begins, The Bible Timeline.

The Bible is at the heart of our Faith and our relationship with God. Scripture informs our beliefs and inspires our devotions. It is the place where our Father meets with us and lovingly speaks to us. Reading the Bible should bring us closer to Christ, but understanding it is often difficult. The good news is that you can understand the Bible, and The Bible Timeline makes it easy. The Bible Timeline is a Catholic Bible study that can help anyone to make sense of Scripture and experience the life-changing power of God’s Word. This study takes you on a journey through the entire Bible and deep into each period of salvation history, where you will discover the amazing story woven throughout all of Scripture. The Bible Timeline has helped hundreds of thousands of people to understand the Bible and deepen their relationship with Christ, and it will help you, too. The study will include a series of twenty-four videos pre-sented by Jeff Cavins. Each video will be preceded by a lively group discussion. Everyone who participates will re-ceive a color-coded Bible Timeline Chart as well as Bible Timeline Study Kit. St. Anne’s will begin The Bible Timeline on Sunday March 5th at 9:00am in the Holy Family Center Library. For more information or to register for the study call the parish office or email [email protected].

Stations of the Cross During Lent every Friday at 7 pm, here at

St. Anne Church.

(Second Sunday of Lent) Next weekend at the 8:00am Mass we will celebrate the “First Scrutiny” for those in our catechumenal process,Rey Lugo de la Cruz, Daniela Navarro Alvarado, Roxana Navarro Alvara-do, who are preparing for initiation at the Easter Vigil. The fol-lowing week, at the 8:00am Mass, we will celebrate the “Second Scrutiny,” and on April 2nd at 8:00am Mass, the “Third Scrutiny.” The scrutinies are also called by the more exotic name “major exorcisms.” As such, they are among the most ancient prayers in the Christian liturgical tradition. As early as the second cen-tury, Christian communities would help those who had been chosen for Baptism to prepare for their initiation by laying on hands and by prayers for protection and deliverance from evil (i.e., exorcisms). At the beginning of the third century, Hippoly-tus told the Christians at Rome to celebrate these rites with catechumens on a daily basis during the final stages of prepara-tion for Baptism. Today we continue to celebrate these powerful rituals, con-vinced that those about to enter into a covenant with God in Christ stand in need of our prayers for deliverance and protec-tion. We also understand today that our prayers for protection from evil are not limited to those formally engaged in the cate-chumenal process. Just as our entire community is called to journey with the catechumens throughout the Lenten season, we recognize the need we all share for freedom from evil and its effects. This week at a special gathering of those in preparation for Confirmation, as well as those in our catechumenal community, we ask their help in naming the evils from which we must seek God’s deliverance and protection. We urge you to prepare for the celebration of the scrutinies in a personal way by discerning what it is in your own life that needs to be freed from sin’s bond-age. Join in spirit with all in our community who turn to Jesus for freedom from sin and protection from all evil.
