MUSIC & PRAYERS FOR October 11th 28th SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

Opening Hymn-Gather Us In 1.Here in the place new light is streaming, now is the darkness vanished away, see in the space our fears and our

dreamings, brought here to you in the light of this day. Gather us in the lost and forsaken, gather us in the blind and the lame; call to us now, and we shall awaken, we shall arise at the sound of our name.

2.We are the young our lives are a myst’ry, we are the old who yearn for your face, we have been sung throughout all of hist’ry, called to be light to the whole human race. Gather us in the rich and the haughty, gather us in the proud and the strong; give us a heart so meek and so lowly, give us the courage to enter the song.

3.Here we will take the wine and the water, here we will take the bread of new birth, here you shall call your sons and daughters, call us anew to be salt for the earth. Give us to drink the wine of compassion, give us to eat the bread that is you; nourish us well, and teach us to fashion lives that are holy and hearts that are true.

Gloria: Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to people of good will. We praise you; we bless you; we adore you; we glorify you; we give you thanks for your great glory. Lord God, heavenly King, O God Almighty Father. Lord Jesus Christ, Only Begotten Son, Lord God, Lamb of God, Son of the Father, you take away the sins of the world, have mercy on us, you take away the sins of the world, receive our prayer; you are seated at the right hand of the Father, have mercy on us. For you alone are the Holy One, you alone are the Lord, you alone are the Most-High, Jesus Christ, with the Holy Spirit, in the glory of God the Father, Amen.

Responsorial Psalm: “Shepherd me, O God, beyond my wants, beyond my fears, from death into life.”

Nicene Creed: I believe in one God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible. I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ, the Only Begotten Son of God, born of the Father before all ages. God from God, Light from Light, True God from True God, begotten, not made, consubstantial with the Father; through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven, and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary and became man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate, he suffered death and was buried, and rose again on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead and his kingdom will have no end. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is adored and glo-rified, who has spoken through the prophets. I believe in one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church. I confess one baptism for the forgiveness of sins, and I look forward to the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come. Amen.

Hymn of Preparation: Shepherd of My Heart 1.My shepherd is the Lord, for nothing shall I want; green are the pastures where I’m led to repose. Near waters still

and deep God will refresh my soul. I am led onward in ways true to the name. Refrain: Guide me, O shepherd of my heart; lead me home-ward through the dark, into everlasting day. Show me the way of truth and light; keep me always in your sight, may my life never part from the shepherd of my heart.

2.If I should walk one day into the vale of darkness, no evil shall I fear with God at my side. There with your crook and staff you give me strength and comfort; you spread a banquet in the sight of my foes. (Refrain)

Communion Hymn: We Come To Your Feast 1.We place upon your table a gleaming cloth of white; the weaving of our stories, the fabric of our lives; the dreams

of those before us, the ancient hopeful cries, the promise of our future; our needing and our nurture lie here be-fore our eyes.

Refrain: We come to your feast, we come to your feast; the young and the old, the frightened, the bold, the greatest and the least. We come to your feast, we come to your feast with the fruit of our lands and the work of our hands, we come to your feast.

2.We place upon your table a humble loaf of bread; the gift of field and hillside, the grain by which we’re fed; we come to taste the presence of him on whom we feed, to strengthen and connect us, to challenge and correct us, to love in word and deed. (Refrain)

3.We place upon your table a simple cup of wine; the fruit of human labor, the gift of sun and vine; we come taste the presence of him we claim as Lord, his dying and his living, his leading and his giving, his love in cup out-poured. (Refrain)

Closing Hymn: City of God 1.Awake from your slumber! Arise from your sleep! A new day is dawning for all those who weep. The people in

darkness have seen a great light. The Lord of our longing has conquered the night. Refrain: Let us build the city of God. May our tears be turned into dancing! For the Lord, our light and our love, has turned the night into day!

2.We are sons of the morning; we are daughters of day. The One who has loved us has brightened our way. The Lord of all kindness has called us to be a light for his people to set their hearts free. (Refrain)

4 Weeks

Our Parables of Jesus Bible Study Returns! Our bible study that began in February will now be returning this October. You may join us for this study even if you did not attend last spring. Week one will be a review week or a beginning of the study for new participants. Join us as we explore Treasures Uncovered: the Parables of Jesus. Together we will uncover the riches the Lord has for us, especially the “pearl of great price”- Jesus himself. Class will meet in Hardy Hall where we can be seated socially distant. Please contact the parish office to sign up to attend. We are limited to 40 participants at this time.

BUECHE’S RECEIPTS Throughout the school year we are collecting Bueche’s receipts to help support our Religious Education program.

Any receipt that says, “Kids 2021” can be placed in the box in the entrance of our church.

This year we will use money col-lected from receipts to pay for our Confirmation retreat and our Faith-in-Action service events.

Faith Formation News Classes began this week for our students in grades 1-7. We had our first in-person session where students joined together to pray a decade of the Rosary, picked up new materials and learned about our monthly service projects.

If a student is unable to attend the monthly in-person session, a video lesson will be emailed to them at home. Materials for class can be picked up from St. Daniel parish, Monday-Friday between 9:00am-5:00pm. Or arrangements can be made to pick up materials from St. Anne parish throughout the week if requested.

It’s not too late to register for class. Call us today to sign up and get started!

October Service Shoe Boxes for Appalachia: Students are asked to fill a shoe box full of small gifts to be donated to those in need. Contact the faith formation office for more details. Boxes need to be returned by November 19. Bags for OCEF: Students are asked to decorate a shopping bag for our food pantry. Color or paint cheerful pictures on the bag and pray for the person who will receive it. Bags are due back by November 14. FAMILY PRAYER Heavenly Father, Thank you for the heavenly banquet of the wedding feast that you invite us to through your son Jesus! Help us to love one another as you love us. We pray for our family and all families to be holy and look to the Holy Family for help and a model of how to love one another. Thank you for giving us time together this day as a family. We ask through your Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, to bless and protect our family as we enter a new week and seek to give glory to you. Amen.

RECIPE OF THE WEEK Chicken Paella

While this classic Spanish dish originat-ed as an ordinary work lunch for farm-ers, this version is far from ordinary. It’s a great way to honor St. Teresa of Avila, who was born in Spain.

4 bone-in chicken thighs 1 tablespoon salt 1 teaspoon black pepper 2 tablespoons olive oil 1 small onion diced 1 garlic clove minced 4 tablespoons hot water 1 teaspoon saffron 1 teaspoon cumin 2 cups arborio rice 3 cups chicken stock 1 can pigeon peas

Pat chicken dry and salt and pepper your chicken. In your paella pan or dutch oven, heat the 2 tablespoons olive oil over medium heat. Brown chicken skin side down for about 5 minutes or until it browns nicely. Turn the chicken over and brown the other side for about 2 minutes. Remove the chicken to a plate and add the onions to the pan. Allow to cook for about 3 to 4 minutes and then add the garlic. sauté another minute. In a small bowl, combine the hot water and saffron. Allow the saffron to dissolve in the water, then add the cumin. Mix to combine. Pour the spice mixture into the paella pan and add the rice, chicken stock and peas.

Mix it all together. Turn heat to high and allow rice to begin to boil. Turn heat to the lowest setting. Add the chicken piec-es to the pan. Cover the pan tightly with foil and allow to cook on the stove top for 30 minutes. Remove foil and check to see if chicken is cooked through.

Worship Jesus likened God’s reign to a great wed-ding banquet that a king gave for his son. Many were invited; some ignored the

invitation. One guest was thrown out for disrespectful dress. In God’s reign, “many are invited, but few are chosen.”
