Third Sunday of Lent The next three Sundays if you attend the 8AM Mass or the10:30AM Mass you will hear readings for the Mass from Year A of the Lec-tionary as the scrutiny rites will take place at these Masses. This is because Year A contains the three great Johannine gospel texts which inspire redemption by Christ, who is the living water (the Samaritan woman at the well), the light of the world (the man born blind), the resurrection and the life (the raising of Lazarus). These were used in the early centuries of the Church to prepare catechumens for Bap-tism and are reinforced by an exorcism. The scrutinies are meant to uncover, then heal all that is weak, defective, or sinful in the hearts of the elect; to bring out, then strengthen all that is upright, strong, and good. These rites are celebrated in order to deliver the elect from the power of sin and Satan, to protect them against temptation, and to give them strength in Christ. For the people of the Church, the scrutinies are an invitation to get in touch with our own thirst, blindness and death. It is an invi-tation to uncover, then heal all that is weak, defective, or sinful, then strengthen all that is upright, strong and good.
Tercer domingo de Cuaresma Los próximos tres domingos, si asiste a la Misa de las 8AM o la Misa de las 10: 30AM, escuchará las lecturas de la Misa del Año A del Leccionario, ya que los ritos de escrutinio se llevarán a cabo en estas Misas. Esto se debe a que el Año A contiene los tres grandes textos del Evangelio de Juan que inspiran la redención de Cristo, que es el agua viva (la mujer samaritana en el pozo), la luz del mundo (el hombre nacido ciego), la resurrección y la vida ( la cri-anza de Lázaro). Estos fueron utilizados en los primeros siglos de la Iglesia para preparar catecúmenos para el Bau-tismo y son reforzados por un exorcismo. The following Sunday, at the 8AM and 10:30AM Masses, we will celebrate the “Second Scrutiny,” and on April 7th at the 8AM and 10:30AM Masses, the “Third Scrutiny.”

St. Anne Church is now accepting tuition assistance requests for the school year 2019-20 for children in Catholic elemen-tary and high schools. Applications are now available at the parish office. Please remember that families receiving assis-tance for the present school year must reapply for next school year; there is no automatic renewal of assistance. Both elementary school and high school applications must be submitted to the parish office by 3/31/2019 please submit your application as soon as possible. In addition, all families seeking tuition assistance must apply online to FACTS Tui-tion Grant and Aid(https://online.factsmgt.com/aid)by 3/31/2019. (An application fee per family for processing FACTS Applications will apply). Please phone the parish office with any questions.
