28th Sunday in Ordinary Time

Dear Sisters and Brothers,

As the school year has started, so is the intensity of events and involve-

ment of all parents following the programs and activities of their children. We can

say it moves from activity to activity. So it is in the life of the Church, we move

from celebration to celebration, from feast day to feast day.

As we have learned last Sunday, the Lord intended suitable company for

everyone. We call it family, marriage. God gave us friendship and love, and He

wants us to enjoy those gifts. Together with all other blessings of creation it

supposed to build the happiness of this life, preparing us for the happiness of

heaven.

In the Gospel of today, this man runs up to Jesus asking about inheriting eternal life. Jesus gives him a simple

answer by inviting him to keep The Commandments. This will get you to heaven. Somehow, for this man it seems not

enough. He could have jumped high rejoicing how simple it is, and continued to be happy with his way of life, but he

seemed still unsatisfied. So Jesus looks at him with love and invites him to be part of his close friends. Go, sell every-

thing you have, give it away, and than come and follow me. But the man wasn’t ready for this step. He did not know

who Jesus was, and did not want to risk loosing all of his possessions in exchange for friendship with Jesus, and for the

promise of heaven. His face fell and he went away sad, for he had many possessions.

We all are invited to a closer friendship with Jesus, we are invited to risk things of life for serving the Lord and

his people. Giving away our goods, giving away our time, giving away our lives is a way of getting to heaven and of

keeping friendship with Jesus. We can’t worry anymore about our material possessions, then about our eternal friend-

ship and eternal life. That is the proper perspective, so if we perceive the look of love of Jesus, we are invited to pursue

it. It’s powerful to see how Jesus values the friendship and love. He stands for a family, and He stands for God’s family

too. It’s the best that we have. Material things are supposed to serve, to be used for the sake of ones own and God’s

family and for friends.

In coming months we have more opportunities for building up our parish family starting with this weekend

with the Bishop’s visit for the Vigil of the Canonization of Archbishop Oscar Romero. Than on Sunday, the Knights of

Columbus have the Octoberfest Picnic in the afternoon. We continue feasting next week with the Feast of Our Lord of

the Miracle’s, - the Peruvian Feast. Than in November we will host Bishop Richard Henning as he comes for his first

visit to our parish as a new Auxiliary Bishop of our Diocese.

On November 17th we have Our Lady of Peace- the Salvadoran Feast, and in December we will have a

Inspirational Concert by Daniel Rodriguez, a Puerto Rican American operatic tenor to start the Advent Season by

lighting of the lights on the Church and warm our hearts with good heartfelt music. What follows will be the Feast of

the Immaculate Conception the Patroness of USA. Soon after we will have Our Lady of Guadalupe and Christmas, than

New Year - the Haitian Independence Day that we will celebrate with the Haitian Feast on the day of Epiphany, and to

close our celebrations of cultural heritage will be the Feast of Our Lady of Altagracia with all our Dominican friends.

Then comes our celebration of Friendship and Love for St Valentine’s. That is going to bring us to the Lenten Season.

As we can see our calendar is a happy calendar. Our parish celebrations, are a constant family celebration. We keep

learning about everyone’s culture and spirituality in order to enjoy each other.

May God bless everyone, as we strive to know Christ and perceive his look of love !!! May God give us the

grace to correspond to that look of love with loving him back and our neighbor.

Oh and yes, as you see we are progressing with the Memorial Garden, that will accommodate all of the

memorial stones from under all the trees memorialized around our property. All the sidewalks and Memorial Garden

will cost us $ 20,000. If you wish you may consider contributing towards this project. Thank You for your support !

God bless you always!!!

Fr. Stan

WORLD PRIEST DAY World Priest Day is on Sunday,

October 28th Please Join Worldwide Marriage Encounter in Cele-brating by praying a Novena for our Priests, starting Friday, October 19th World Priest Day

(WPD) is a celebration and affirmation of the men who com-

mit their lives to the Lord and the Church via the Sacrament

of Holy Orders. It is an opportunity for Catholic Parishioners

to thank, affirm and share their love and support for our

priests.

HISTORY - The first World Priest Day was celebrated on the

third Sunday in September 2000. The event grew from an idea

in September of 1998, when the Worldwide Marriage En-

counter community in the Diocese of Knoxville, TN decided

to celebrate the tenth anniversary of the diocese by honoring

all of their priests. The bishop & priests were so appreciative

that the leaders of the local M.E. community shared the idea

with the leaders of other communities in the Southeastern

U.S. Some of those communities adopted the idea in 1999,

and had such a positive experience that they brought the idea

to the U S Secretariat leadership board. One year later, World-

wide Marriage Encounter officially established the third Sun-

day of September as World Priest Day.

During the nearly 50 years that Marriage Encounter has

existed in the U.S., one of its gifts has been the wonderful

relationships that have grown between countless couples and

priests. This idea for honoring our priests came from the love

and respect that has grown from those relationships. It predat-

ed the recent Church scandals, but we believe that building

stronger relationships between priests and their people can

rebuild our Church! We are together on our faith journey.

In 2003 WWME reached out to the full Church and invited

other lay groups to join in the celebration of affirming the

men who faithfully serve as our beloved priests. In June of

2006, WWME changed the day of World Priest Day to the 4th

Sunday in October to coincide with the Serra Club’s celebra-

tion of Priesthood Sunday. This became effective in 2007.

Priesthood is a special calling and absolutely central to the life

of the Church. Let us honor our Priests for their sacrifices,

their presence in our lives, and most of all their service to the

church.

To live in the midst of the world without wishing its

pleasures; To be a member of each family, yet belonging to

none; To share all suffering; to penetrate all secrets; To heal

all wounds; to go from men to God and offer Him their

prayers; To return from God to men to bring pardon and hope;

To have a heart of fire for Charity, and a heart of bronze for

Chastity To teach and to pardon, console and bless always.

My God, what a life; and it is yours, O priest of Jesus Christ. -

-Father Jean-Baptiste Lacordaire

Join us as we pray for nine days in thanksgiving for our

Priests.
