News from the Wheel-House

Hello Everybody, Peace and Grace,

I wish and pray that God may fill your heart and home with peace and joy!

Last Sunday Jan.12, 2019 we had the “Blessing Ceremony” for the children who were baptized in 2019. When I was doing preparation for it, I checked our parish baptismal register and found to my joy and hope that eighty-two children had been baptized from our parish last year alone. A big number of baptisms which lot of churches in our archdiocese don’t have. Right away I thanked God for the beautiful blessing and the hope of the great future that He has offered to St. Anthony’s. And with that joyful heart along with the faith community gathered for the 10:00 AM Family mass I did the Blessing Cer-emony and it was wonderful. As I mentioned in the previous bulletin, we do this ceremony every year to encourage the par-ents and sponsors to continue in their Christian responsibility of being a great model of faith to their children and also to get them back to the church. We had five families present for the ceremony. Though the number is kind of low, I am encouraged by the saying, “something is better than nothing” and the hope that we will do better in next years. I thank and appreciate all the parents and sponsors who had taken time to come with their children for that “Blessing Ceremony”. I also thank all who helped with the ceremony. God bless them all!

We did the dismantling of the Christmas decoration on Jan.12, 2020 evening. The Spanish prayer group people along with our church cleanliness in charge Ms. Gloria did it. Truly we are blessed to have them. I thank and appreciate their support to St. Anthony’s.

Though the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops has declared January 22 a day of prayer and penance called the Day of Prayer for the Legal Protection of Unborn Children that “shall be observed as a particular day of prayer for the full resto-ration of the legal guarantee of the right to life and of penance for violations to the dignity of the human person committed through acts of abortion,” here at our St. Anthony’s incorpo-rating the Tuesday Novena on Jan. 21, 2020 Tuesday at 7:00 PM we are going to have a “Special Adoration and Prayer Service” for Pro-Life. It is also an event highly encouraged and promoted by our cardinal Sean O’Malley. Kindly take time to come for this prayer service and show your care for “LIFE.” This prayer service is going to be led by our deacon Joe. I thank, appreciate and wish him the best for this great job of faith. Continued on Page 4

Lamb of God who takes away the Sins of the World

For this reason, the Agnus Dei is sung during the fraction, the breaking of the consecrated Host. St. John Chrysostom (d. 407) preached of how the fraction symbolized the Passion of Christ: “What Christ did not suffer on the Cross, He suffers in the sacri-fice for thee.” The hymn itself invokes Christ and recalls His sac-rificial death with overtones of a hymn of victory of the triumphal Lamb. This belief is then emphasized again when the priest holds up the fractured Host and says, “This is the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world, happy are those who are called to His supper.” (Or, in a literal translation of the Latin, “Happy are those who are called to the supper of the Lamb,” better re-flecting the imagery of Revelation.)As we celebrate the mysteries of the Mass, we look to the Lamb who suffered, died, and rose for our salvation. We must gather around the altar of the Lamb, offering to Him our own hearts and pledging to be His servants, so that we may welcome Him and become wedded to Him in the Holy Eucharist.

2 ND SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

News from the Wheel-House

Hello Everybody, Peace and Grace,

The Week of Prayer for Christian Unity has begun Saturday Jan. 18, 2020. We who yearn and pray for our own peace are invited and encouraged by Untied States Bishops Conference to pray for the Christian Unity, which is also the prayer and thirst of our Lord “that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me.” (Jn 17/21) Kindly add this intention to your prayer list. Thank you.

Our sacristan Dana is still in Rehab but getting better. Fr. Heniston and myself we went to visit him at Encompass Rehab., Woburn MA. I am also keep-ing myself connected with him through phone. He thanked and appreciated your thoughts, prayers, cards, and phone calls. Kindly continue to pray for him.

We need volunteers for our church “Flea Market”. You know that our church Flea Market is one our main revenue generating source. The fact is without Bingo and Flea Market we cannot keep our church open. Though we have couple of great volunteers to help out, Ms. Elaine Hurley who is in charge of the Flea Market, most of the time has to do everything by herself. Last week she got hurt when she was making preparation for the Saturday Flea Market. Kindly keep her in your prayers. I also encourage people to volunteer for the Flea Market to support our beautiful church. If you are planning to volun-teer, please call the rectory. I thank and appreciate it in advance.

Well, I hear the bell to go and hold the wheel of St. Anthony’s! Bye now! God bless and see you next week!

Your administrator, Fr. Xavier
