PALM SUNDAY

We have come to Palm Sunday and to the

beginning of Holy Week, the most sacred time of the

Church’s Liturgical year. It is during this week that we

celebrate the most central events, and sacred mysteries

of our Faith. It all starts today with Jesus’ entry into

Jerusalem, riding into the city on a donkey with the

people of the city welcoming Him by laying palm

before Him as he rides, and shouting, “Hosanna to the

Son of David.” Today, we also read the Passion, in

which we hear many of the same people who welcomed

Our Lord just one week before, shout at His trial:

“Crucify Him.” As we go through Holy Week this

week, let us all make a special effort to draw close to

the Lord in our prayers as we celebrate the central

events of our Faith. I would also like to encourage all

of us to make a special effort to attend the Sacred

Triduum Liturgies at the end of the week. These are

the Mass of the Lord’s Supper on Holy Thursday where

we celebrate the institution of the Holy Eucharist and

the priesthood, the Liturgy of the Passion on Good

Friday where we commemorate the Lord’s death and

venerate His Cross, and the Easter Vigil on Holy

Saturday evening, where the history of salvation is

recounted in the readings, as the Church keeps vigil for

the Resurrection of the Lord. It is also at the Easter

Vigil that those who have been preparing for baptism

and reception into full communion with the Church

receive the Sacraments of Initiation, which is a great

moment in the life of faith of every parish. Please pray

this week for our catechumens and candidates here at

St. Antoninus that this final week of formation and

preparation may be fruitful for them as they approach

the Easter Vigil next Saturday.

Finally, this time with all of you as temporary

administrator of St. Antoninus has gone by very

quickly. I want everyone to know how much I enjoyed

being here with all of you during this time, and I look

forward to being with you again for a few weeks during

the summer months. I wanted to thank Fr. Mick,

Deacon Bob, the whole staff, and all of you for making

this time such a blessing for me. We all welcome Fr.

Armstrong home from his sabbatical this week. I want

to thank him for giving me the opportunity to serve

here while he was away, and to assure him, and all of

you, that you continue in my prayers daily.

INVITATION TO THE EASTER VIGIL

The RCIA Team would like to invite you to the

Easter Vigil on Saturday April 19, at 9:00 PM. It is a

beautiful Mass and Liturgy. Five people will be

received into the Catholic Church at that Mass. Two

will be baptized and all five will receive Confirmation

and First Eucharist. Please plan to attend the Vigil and

welcome Cheri, Jess, Missy, Patty, and Serenity into

the Catholic Church and as members of our parish

family. There will be a reception immediately

following the Vigil.

St. Antoninus Parish is seeking a full-time Business

Manager. The Parish Business Manager is an

administrator in support of the Pastor’s responsibilities

to the parish. This administrator is a steward of the

physical, financial and personnel resources of the

parish. Candidates must have excellent computer

skills, a knowledge of accounting principles and

practices, excellent interpersonal communication skills

and good record-keeping ability. The candidate should

have supervisory experience and, if possible, have a

college degree and/or five to ten years business

grade will present the stations in an acting

format with narration.

ST. VINCENT DE PAUL SOCIETY

Today is Palm Sunday and the beginning of the

holiest of Christian weeks. Let us pray for the grace to

take up our own cross and to follow Jesus through

death to new life. Please support the Society of St.

Vincent de Paul so that together we can help the poor

as they carry their cross of suffering and pain.

Things I ’ve Seen and Heard

Musings of Fr. Bryan Reif

PALM SUNDAY

Dear Parishioners:

Thank you to Mrs. Witterstaetter for her

coordination of another successful jog-a-thon.

While the weather forecasters were calling for rain, we

had a window of good weather for the run on April 8th.

I always love this activity as we get an army of

volunteers to help cheer on our students, pass out

water and count laps.

For those of you who have donated to put a

memorial bench for our service men and women,

thank you. I was able to complete the entire 150 mile

run this year. An insert in this bulletin provides a

recap of the run and gives more information about

donating.

MAY CROWNING will take place immediately after

the 8:00AM Mass on Friday, May 2nd. Mass will

begin with a procession of our students carrying May

flowers. The recitation of the rosary and May

Crowning will take place after the Mass ends.

HOLY SPIRIT PRAYER GROUP As we come into the holiest week of the

liturgical year, we are planning for the

celebration of the Triduum -- with all the

beauty of those three days ending with the

Easter Vigil. The prayer group is going to spend the

second of two Tuesday evenings focusing on the

Easter Vigil service. Several of the members of the

prayer group will read, reflect, and share their thoughts

on one of the Scriptural readings proclaimed at the

Vigil. This always opens up the words of Scripture in

new ways to each of us.

Craig Johnson, who leads our praise and worship,

will do a very special song entitled “Watch the Lamb.”

It’s a beautiful and touching story of the man who

came into Jerusalem with his two sons and found

himself being pushed into carrying the cross with

Jesus. You don’t want to miss this. In Chapel 7:30 PM.

My name is Vince Feldman, Sr. and I have been a lifelong member of St. Antoninus. I married Fran in 1995

and have 6 beautiful children who have attended or currently attend St. Antoninus. I think St. A is a great

place to raise a family, with a wide variety of activities to be involved with both as a family and as an

individual. I have helped coach baseball, assisted with Cub and Boy Scouts, and volunteered with Buildings

and Grounds. I feel my years of experience and exposure at St. A along with my HVAC service profession

would allow me to bring a perspective to Parish Council that represents the parishioners. Thank you for

considering me as your representative.

My name is Kevin Anneken and I appreciate the opportunity to be a candidate for Parish Council. I have been a

parishioner of St. Antoninus for most of my life and I enjoy being able to help serve the needs of the parish. As

a past Parish Council member I have some experience with the advisory role of Parish Council. The previous

time that I spent on Parish Council was a valuable experience for me and a good introduction into the operations

of the parish. I look forward to being able to serve the parish in that capacity again.

My name is Julie Scott and my husband Jack and I have been St. A parishioners since 1991. Both of our boys

attended school (K-8) at St. A. Over the years, I have served the Parish as RASS/PTO Co-Chair (2 terms), wife

of Athletic Club President/Festival Chair, Education Commission (President), CRHP Team Chair, School

Volunteer, Cub Scout Den Leader (10 years), Boy Scout Fish Fry Co-Chair (6 years), Bereavement Ministry

Team (4.5 years), and on the New Evangelization, Mass Journal Project and Parish Website committees. I have

a BS in Marketing (Miami University), MBA in Information Systems (Xavier University), and am currently in

graduate school at the Athenaeum of Ohio (Lay Pastoral Ministry, graduating 2015). I love my Parish Family,

and would be honored to serve on Parish Council.

My name is Amy Oliver and my husband Tony and I have been parishioners for 13 years and have 2 children that

currently attend St. Antoninus. Jack is in the 6th Grade and Kate is in the 3rd Grade. I work full time, but enjoy

being a part of the St. Antoninus community by volunteering for various parish organizations and events

including, Girl Scouts, Astronomy Club, Olympic Day committee, Room Mom, Lunchroom/Playground Duty,

and most recently helping with the launch of the new Youth Group. We feel so blessed to be a part of a parish and

school that truly cares about our children’s growth – both intellectually and spiritually. With all of this in mind, I

have decided to run for a position with the Education Commission. I am interested in understanding the current

and future curriculum decisions, and what needs to be done to ensure our children getting the best education

possible. Thank you.

My name is Todd Beekley. My wife, Maureen, my daughter, Anne, and I have been members of St. Antoninus

Parish since 2011. My daughter is currently in Second Grade at St. Antoninus. Having graduated from St.

William, St. Xavier High School and Boston College, I have benefitted from an exceptional Catholic

education. My priorities, if elected to the Education Commission, would be to continue the outstanding work of

the faculty, staff and current Commission and do my best to insure that each child continues to receive

outstanding opportunities to improve his or her intellectual and spiritual growth.

My name is Aimee McBride and I would like to be considered for the Saint Antoninus Education

Committee. My husband and I have a third grader and a fifth grader at St. Antoninus. I am interested in

contributing as a member of this advisory group and increasing my involvement in our school. As a

program administrator in Early Childhood Education in the Oak Hills school district I am very involved in

our education community. Thank you for your consideration.

My name is Ed Willig God has blessed me with a wonderful family. Gina and I were married in 2006 at St.

Antonius. We have 3 energetic children, James (6) in kindergarten at St. A., Alice (4), and Eddie (2). We

conveniently live on Linneman Road across the street from the church. I was mentored, taught, and

occasionally disciplined in my elementary years by exceptional folks at St. Antoninus, ie. Fr. Goeckeler, Sister

Mary Therese, and Fr. Urbain. I’ve been employed at Parkway for 33 years. I have been a Eucharistic

minister at Good Samaritan Hospital for 11 years. It would be an honor to work with the great people at St.

Antoninus on Parish Council.

W O R S H I P C O M M I S S I O N

My name is Tracy Hughes and my family and I have been parishioners at St. Antoninus for the past seven

years. I currently have a son in high school, who is a St. Antoninus Alum, an 8th grade son, as well as a 5th

grade son, both current students at our fine school. Throughout the past years, I have served in many

capacities both at school and with the parish. Most recently, I served on Parish Council; I also sing with the

11:30 am choir. I have been an assistant Cub Scout Den Leader, Room Mom and library volunteer. I have

enjoyed my many years of volunteering with both the parish and school and look forward to the opportunity

to bring my enthusiasm and service to the Worship Commission. For as my children grow and move on from

grade school, I would like to focus my energies on our St. Antoninus Parish Community.

My name is Peggy Welge. My husband, Hal and I joined St. Antoninus Parish when our oldest son entered

kindergarten. We have three sons. Our oldest is now in third grade, our middle son is in first grade, and our

youngest is 3 ½ years old. I would like to be a member of the Education Commission because I believe St.

Antoninus Parish School is the best place for our children to learn and grow in their faith. I would like the

opportunity to work with others to live out our school’s mission to “nurture our students’ God-given talents

spiritually, academically, socially, and physically.”

I am Paul Autenrieb. My wife Denise and I have been members of St. Antoninus parish for twenty years. We

have been blessed with eight children and four grandchildren. We are grateful for the faith life that St.

Antoninus has provided and look forward to serving the parish in this capacity.

EDUCATION COMMISSION CON’T

I am Julie Heil. Thank you for the nomination to Worship Commission. I am very honored. My husband, Bob,

and I have been members of the Parish for approximately 18 years. Our children (now grown), Dan and

Christina, attended our Parish School. During my time as a Parishioner, I taught PREP, I was a Girl Scout

leader (continue as an active member of the Cincinnati Catholic Committee on Girl Scouting – running various

Catholic programs for Girl Scouts in cooperation with the Archdiocese); a member of the Ladies Ensemble, the

St. Vincent De Paul Society, ran the Youth Club and the Youth Service ministry. I was an elected member of Parish

Council and the Worship Commission in prior years.

I believe in actively growing one’s faith and taking any opportunity to learn more about Catholicism and enriching a

personal relationship with God. I look forward to the possibility of participating in our Worship Commission in achieving

our goals for our Parish.

Debbie Rolfes I've been a parishioner here at St. Antoninus for 14 yrs. A few of my active ministries include:

distributing Communion to our homebound parishioners each week, teaching 3rd & 4th grade PREP class, serving as a

member of the New Evangelization Team & Vocations Committee/Traveling Chalice. I am passionate about my Catholic

faith and if chosen, would be honored to serve on the Worship Commission for St. Antoninus.

Karen Klaene I have been a member of St. Antoninus parish for 39 years. My husband Ben and I have five children,

sixteen grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. I am a Eucharistic Minister here and at Good Samaritan Hospital. I am

also a member of Presentation Ministries, and have been active in the Christ Renews His Parish program and numerous Life

in the Spirit programs here and at other parishes. I would be honored to serve the parish as a member of the Worship

Commission.

Nick Ventre I was born and raised in Cincinnati, attended OLL, St. Dominic, and Elder (1976). I studied

engineering, math, and fine art, and (eventually) graduated from UC evening college with a degree in Applied

Mathematics. My wife Claire and I have been married for 30 years, and we have three adult children. We have

been St. A parishioners since 1993. I work as a project manager and lead electrical engineer for ThermalTech

Engineering, a local consulting firm. I enjoy reading, music, art and golf.

GWAC GIRLS’S GOLF PROGRAM for 5th, 6th,

and 7th grade girls is accepting sign-ups until April

25th, by e-mailing cnaber@cinci.rr.com. This

league plays in the early evenings on a couple of

days during the week at Robin’s Nest Par 3 Golf

Course in Cleves.

Arrangements can be made for golf equipment to be

provided for those girls who do not have the items.

Parents are needed to volunteer to coordinate/coach.

ST. ANTONINUS CARE-GIVER SUPPORT

GROUP meeting is on April 21, from 1:30 - 3:00 pm

facilitators for several new groups forming in the

F O R M O F E X A M I N A T I O N O F C O N S C I E N C E In an examination of conscience, before the sacrament of penance, each individual should ask himself/herself,

1. What is my attitude to the sacrament of penance? Do I sincerely want to be set free from sin, to turn again to God, to begin a new life, and to enter into a deeper friendship with God? Or do I look on it as a burden, to be undertaken as seldom as possible. 2. Did I forget to mention, or deliberately conceal, any grave sins in past confessions? 3. Did I perform the penance I was given? Did I make reparation for any injury to others? Have I tried to put into practice my resolution to lead a better life in keeping with the Gospel?

I. The Lord says: “You shall love the Lord your God with your whole heart.” Is my heart set on God, so that I really love Him above all things and am faithful to His commandments, as a son loves his father? Or am I more concerned about the things of this world? Have I a right intention in what I do? God spoke to us in His Son. Is my faith in God firm and secure? Am I wholehearted in accepting the Church’s teaching?

Have I been careful to grow in my understanding of the faith, to hear God’s word, to listen to instructions on the faith, to avoid dangers to faith? Have I been always strong and fearless in professing my faith in God and the Church? Have I been willing to be known as a Christian in private and public life? Have I prayed morning and evening? When I pray, do I really raise my mind and heart to God or is it a matter of words only? Do I offer God my difficulties, my joys and my sorrows? Do I turn to God in time of temptation?

Have I love and reverence for God’s name? Have I offended Him in blasphemy, swearing falsely, or taking His name in vain? Have I shown disrespect for the Blessed Virgin Mary and the saints?

Do I keep Sundays and feasts days holy by taking a full part, with attention and devotion, in the liturgy, and especially in the Mass? Have I fulfilled the precept of annual confession and communion during the Easter season?

Are there false gods that I worship by giving them greater attention and deeper trust than I give to God, false gods such as money, superstition, spiritism, or other occult practices?

II. The Lord says: “Love one another as I have loved you.” Have I genuine love for my neighbors? Or do I use them for my own ends, or do to them what I would not want done to

myself? Have I given grave scandal by my words or actions? In my family life, have I contributed to the well-being and happiness of the rest of the family by patience and genuine love? Have I been obedient to parents, showing them proper respect and giving them help in their spiritual and material needs? Have I been careful to give a Christian upbringing to my children, and to help them by good example and by exercising authority as a parent? Have I been faithful to my husband (wife) in my heart and in my relations with others? Do I share my possessions with the less fortunate? Do I do my best to help the victims of oppression, misfortune, and poverty? Or do I look down on my neighbor, especially the poor, the sick, the elderly, strangers, and people of other races? Does my life reflect the mission I received in confirmation? Do I share in the apostolic and charitable works of the Church and in the life of my parish? Have I helped to meet the needs of the Church and of the world and prayed for them: for unity in the Church, for the spread of the Gospel among the nations, for peace and justice, etc. Am I concerned for the good and prosperity of the human community in which I live, or do I spend my life caring only of myself? Do I share to the best of my ability in the work of promoting justice, morality, harmony, and love in human relations? Have I done my duty as a citizen? Have I paid my taxes? Do I vote regularly? In my work or profession am I just, hard-working, honest, serving society out of love for others? Have I paid a fair wage to my employees? Have I been faithful to my promises and contracts? Have I obeyed legitimate authority and given it due respect? If I am in a position of responsibility or authority, do I use this for my own advantage or for the good of others, in a spirit of service? Have I been truthful and fair, or have I injured others by deceit, calumny, detraction, rash judgment, or violation of a secret? Have I done violence to others by damage to life or limb, reputation, honor, or material possessions? Have I involved them in loss? Have I been responsible for advising an abortion or procuring one? Have I kept up hatred for others? Am I estranged from others through quarrels, enmity, insults, anger? Have I refused to testify to the innocence of another because of selfishness? Have I stolen the property of others? Have I desired it unjustly and inordinately? Have I damaged it? Have I made restitution for other people’s property and made good their loss? If I have been injured, have I been ready for the love of Christ, to make peace and to forgive, or do I harbor hatred and the desire for revenge?
