DIOCESAN EVENTS

RESPECT LIFE CORNER Family Prayer: As older children continue their schooling this fall, it's tempting to want to pour all your

protective wisdom into them, especially around issues of faith. As they age, however, share your faith struggles,

not just your certainty. Praying together as a family and talking openly is a wonderful way to increase your

family’s relationship with the Lord and with one another. Learn, Act, Connect, Pray: The Pope has said

that “the family is the ‘yes’ of God’s love.” God’s love is the starting point for the family and the strength that

allows that family bond to remain strong. Keeping the lines of communication open, especially during this busy

time of the back to school hustle, will help set the tone for the entire school year. While there may not be time

for a large family dinner every night, set aside time to talk and pray as a family.

“Now we must look ahead, we must "put out into the deep", trusting in

Christ's words: Duc in altum! What we have done this year cannot

justify a sense of complacency, and still less should it lead us to relax

our commitment. On the contrary, the experiences we have had

should inspire in us new energy, and impel us to invest in concrete

initiatives the enthusiasm which we have felt.” – St. John Paul II,

The First Glorious Mystery

THE RESURRECTION

1. The body of Jesus is placed in the tomb on the evening of Good

Friday.

2. His soul descends into the realm of the dead to announce to the Just

the tidings of their redemption.

3. Fearing the body of Jesus will be taken, the chief priests place guards

at the tomb.

4. On the third day Jesus rises from the dead, glorious and immortal.

5. The earth quakes as the angel rolls back the stone, the guards flee in

terror.

6. The holy women coming to anoint the body of Jesus are amazed and

frightened to find the tomb open.

7. An angel calms their fears: "He is not here. He has risen as He said."

8. Jesus appears to Mary Magdalen and Peter and two disciples on the

way to Emmaus.

9. That evening He appears to the apostles behind locked doors: "Peace

be unto you... do not be afraid."

10. Jesus breathes on them and gives them the power to forgive sin.

Spiritual Fruit: Spiritual Fruit: Let us pray for good weather for our

upcoming picnic and for good weather for the crops in the field, as well as, the

safety of our farmers.

Being a Catechist one of the most rewarding vocations. It is a love of sharing our faith, seeing the joy and love spring forth in our children/young adults, the surge of peace in adults that choose to teach along with your own faith continuing to grow. Saints Peter and Paul Parish is specifically looking for catechists for the Parish School of Religion (PSR) program. This is an opportunity to be involved in working with our partner parish! If you are interested in finding out more about becoming a Catechist please contact Angela Atkinson at [email protected] or call the parish office.

Top 10 Reasons to Become a Catechist

1. You will grow in your own faith, learn the teachings of the Church, and deepen your relationship with

Jesus. 2. Your Baptism calls you to share in Jesus’ ministry. 3. Children, teens, and adults in today’s world, more than ever, need to hear the Good News of Jesus. 4. Children, teens, and adults in today’s world, more than ever, need to encounter good role models of faith. 5. You have much to share with those you’ll teach, and you’ll have opportunities to share faith with other

catechists. 6. Today’s catechetical textbooks/resources offer outstanding support. 7. You’ll be challenged, you’ll have fun, and you’ll make new friends. 8. You’ll be helping people deepen their relationship with Jesus. (You’ll be evangelizing!) 9. You’ll be handing on a 2000-year-old Tradition that changes lives. 10. It’s our job: Jesus sent us to “go and teach all nations.”

! GOLD RUSH DRAWING ! This is one of the largest fundraisers for our parish and school at Ss. Peter and Paul, and its success depends on you. All net profits are divided evenly between the parish general fund and parish grade school. Tickets are $100 each or you can get a group together to buy one or more tickets. If your ticket is drawn for any of the Early Bird prizes, it then goes back in the drawings so you have more chances to win $1,000 or more. The next Early Bird winners are September 15. Grand Prize drawings are pulled on Saturday, October 7, at the Holy Name Trivia Night. We lowered the total number of tickets to sell to 625. And this year we are adding a bonus draw IF we sell 550 tickets before Trivia Night. That makes 10 chances to win $1,000 or more! You can get them at the parish office or by contacting Staci Wittenauer ([email protected] or 618.791.7131). Thank you for your continued support. Good luck!

“QUESTIONS & ANSWERS ABOUT SOME OF OUR CATHOLIC PRACTICES AND BELIEFS”

Clergy Speaker Panel Tuesday, August 28th

7:00 – 8:00 pm Ss. Peter and Paul

Adult Faith Formation House (just west of the church)

Do you have a question about something we, as Catholics, do or believe? Is there something you always wondered about but just never asked? This is your chance to ask our clergy. It is helpful to them if you submit your question ahead of time in case they need to do a little research to find the correct answer. You can email your questions to Karen at Ss. Peter & Paul Parish Office: [email protected], call her at 939-6426 Ext. 22 or put in an envelope marked with Karen Seaborn’s name in the collection basket at either Ss. Peter and Paul or St. Augustine’s. Karen will compile all the questions & get them to our esteemed panel. Then be sure to join us (whether or not you have sent a question) for what is always a fun & enlightening evening, as we learn more about what we do

& what we believe.
