‘Love one another

as I

have loved you’

John 15:12

During the month of February everyone tends to focus on

the virtue of love. Love is really a genuine expression of

care and concern for others. It can take on many forms

from that of sharing a simple smile or saying ‘Hello’ to that

and providing time and effort to someone who might need

more of your generous thoughts and actions. When com-

bined with respect there is then a depth to that sharing of

love with one another. When a child experiences respect,

that child then knows what it feels like to be loved and

begins to understand how important it is in everyone’s life.

Keep in mind the saying "Do unto others as you would

have them do unto you." By each of us sharing our love

with one another there is a growing care amongst all of us

and for everything around us that God has so blessed us

with each and every day.

GUIDANCE CORNER

High school acceptance/re-direction letters will be couriered to the elementary schools during the first two weeks of February and will be sent to the Grade 8 teacher for distribution. The Program and Course Calendar for secondary school is now available for Grade 8 students and parents on the Board website. You can access this resource through the links to Student Success and Guid-ance & Career Education at www.tcdsb.org. It includes a wide variety of important information related to high school, as well as highlighting the courses that each of our high schools will be of-fering for the coming school year. You may find this a useful tool in anticipation of course selec-tion and registration that will take place in early March.

I have provided a link to an article on the Learning Skills/Work Habits by Annie Kidder of People for Education: http://www.peopleforeducation.ca/pfe-news/report-cards-are-coming-report-cards

Parent Surveys for Before and After School Programs

As of January 18, 2017, parents, of currently-enrolled Year 1/Junior Kindergarten students, will be provid-

ed with a survey to indicate interest for a Before and After School Licensed Child Care Program to poten-

tially open. A minimum of 20 positive surveys and then 20 registrations will be needed in order to consider

a program.

During that same week, parents of currently-enrolled children from the ages of 6 -12 will be able to access

a Before and After School survey online through the following link:

https://soar.tcdsb.org/soarsurvey2/schoolagesurvey.aspx

A minimum of 25 positive surveys and then 25 registrations will be needed in order to consider a school-

age program for 6 – 12 year olds.

Before and After/After School Programs generally operate on a cost-recovery basis therefore minimum

numbers are required in order to be financially-viable.

Completed surveys (whether online or paper copies) are due by Friday, February 17, 2017.

For school sites that have an existing Before and After School and or just After School Program (authorized

recreation), parents are still welcome to complete the surveys to show interest in a program that may not

currently be available in the school.

Note that every effort will be made to open programs where there is sufficient interest. This is contin-

gent upon identifying a qualified third party agency that accepts the opportunity to open a program

within a school site.

-are-coming/. As the Term 1 Report Card is sent home and Parent/Teacher Conferences take place, it is a good reminder of the importance of strengthening these 6 skills and the vital role that parents play in helping their child develop them.

Sale of Cookiegrams

The Grade 7/8 year end trip to Ottawa is scheduled for the month of June. To help offset some of the finan-cial costs, the Grade 7/8 students will have several fundraising initiatives, from Cookiegrams to Sundaes. The first initiative is filled with love. That’s right, the month of February celebrates the virtue of Love. To help spread the love and to show your love, we will be selling Cookiegrams from February 1 to 13. Every Cookiegram purchased will be hand delivered on Valentine’s Day. Students will have an opportunity to purchase Cookiegrams for $2.00 each or 3 for $5.00. Thank for your ongoing support.
